Milroe actually produced in college it didn’t end well but he had a better college career then Richardson and Milroe fit the mold of what teams looking for big arm and mobile

The only full game I watched him play was the playoff game against Michigan but it wouldn't be fair to judge anyone against that defense

The only problem is a guy like, say Wilson... he won't stick around until Stafford leaves if he plays 2 or more years. His rookie deal is up in another year since he is no longer with the Jets and is entering year 4. So I assume his 5th yr option can't be picked up???

Trade for a guy like Richardson and you will be forced to give him a decent sized contract without ever likley proving he is worth it as his rookie deal is already entering year 3.

So the young vet back up is not necessarily a perfect fit if Stafford plays 2 more years. You might be back looking for another backup next year or bidding for your back up in 2 years on the open market for a guy that has yet to prove he can play.

I prefer a young guy learning under Stafford and if the kid can't meet their expectations in practice or in the meeting room, you can always draft another prospect next year.

I think Hooker and Milton are worth a look, with guys of their caliber and guys of this caliber in the draft, I don't think you need to worry so much about having the control on the contract.

And it's been said by Jourdan that Rams will explore all avenues including QBs on other rosters.

At least with Hooker and Milton, I think they can offer more than a lot of the guys in this class. Also, Milton's OC was Van Pelt who's with us now.

Get a guy like Zach Wilson in the building for a year to personally evaluate him. Then, if they like him, give him a multi year backup QB contract that’s enough to entice him to stay.

Who is going to swoop in with a $50-$60 million deal for an unproven flop?

Jorie Epstein made an interesting comment on Milroe. He needs so much work at actually being a QB, like a faster but not as good passer as Hurts who ended up working out (still can't really pass across the middle).

You say to Milroe, look, give me 10 plays a game at RB/gadget/weapon and we'll make sure we develop you at QB. Then outside that, you just sit him for 1 year or 2. Redo his entire throwing mechanics.

I think then you start looking at him end of first/top of second.

Problem is he probably sticks around in college for at least 2 more years since he has yet to be a starter.

Wilson is a UFA, so he's on the path of year to year deals, might even find himself on a practice squad

One thing that has disappointed me is the Rams inability to bring in young QBs to flip for picks. I feel like McVay's one of the better coaches to do that with. Feature them as backups in preseason and then sell to stupid and QB starved teams for additional pick resources like the Pats did when they had Brady.

So taking a shot on QB is valuable if and when they do it. Of course it feels like Stafford's time may be drawing to a close, but still with this coach they should always have young arms cooking on the sideline.

I agree here 100% as the Rams and McVay have been able to take veteran QB's like Mayfield, Wentz & Garoppolo and resurrect them or get them to showcase their talents as to why they were high draft choices and had some success, however, they have not drafted a younger guy and developed, but there is a small sample size as Stetson Bennett is the only QB they drafted that falls into that category and some would debate that Bennett is not young.

Well he has consistently improved every QB he has worked with. Goff was night and day under McVay until he finally got worn down under the pressure of expectations. Stafford got his title with a true elite run for the hardware in the playoffs. Mayfield was completely rejuvenated after working with him. If McVay does have a weakness with QBs it is that he is relentless and wears them down IMO.

I think the issue is they missed on Bennett. Whatever he had going on they either didn't see it or they underestimated it.

You may be right about them going the reclamation route. Doing that and featuring him in preseason and hopefully building value, then if Stafford sticks around a few more years within that time that reclamation could turn into picks.

Well, guys like Hurts & Love were developed which allowed the starters to be ship off for high picks.

Ok but that wasn't the statement it was draft guys develop them and ship them off for picks. You're saying we would draft a guy and develop him and ship Stafford off for picks that's a different story.

Yeah Roseman's trading of Wentz was master class.

I just think the Rams should be tapping into the value of their offensive staff by ensuring they have young arms cooking. The sheer demand of the position by teams means it is a potential way of adding picks if their starter is good. And if the starter is not good then they have options to move on.

We all agree they haven't ever done much with McVay at backup QB.

I completely agree. That should be the bonus of having one of the top offensive HC's in the league. Teams want our coaches, well they should also want young QBs that have been coached up here.
