Seems to me like it would make more sense for Rams to draft a QB in 2026. I'm guessing Stafford wants to play 2 more years instead of just the one.

Rams are in a bit of a conundrum. This could very well be Stafford's last year. Especially if the rams win the SB. He might have one or two good years left in him beyond that. While we can speculate on Stafford's future what we can't speculate on is the rams will need to get a QB of the future and soon. I'm not sure if that guy is in this draft. One thing I can say about mcsnead is they like to take more chances on FAs than draft picks at premium positions. Question is do the rams take a flyer on a draft pick or trade/FA in the near future. It's tough to say.

I think it matters more what the Rams want here come next year.

Why not they want a qb to learn from Stafford and sit like love and Rodgers did
Because there is no one in this draft that fits that mold where they’ll be drafting after taking more important pieces to the win now puzzle.

Right. What I think the Rams want in 2025 is:
1. Stafford
2. "Medium priced veteran who is capable of stepping in and winning right away" (I.e. Garoppolo or someone comparable)
3. Cheap yet seasoned #3 in Bennett (who is still under contract for 2025 and 2026).

For me, I just don't see how a potential "#1 QB of the future" fits in that scenario.

Just my 2 cents....

I don't like the QBs in this draft but at the right price, any one of these guys should be considered.

But the problem is Dart won't be there in the 5th (and even then we'd need to trade up!).

It fits because Stafford is 37 and is on a year to year basis and Bennett is not a starter. And due to the fact the roster is young and will need a solid QB to step in whenever Stafford is done.

It is time for Bennett to vacate the QB3 role. He will either be QB2 or cut.

I happen to live in Mississippi and one of my oldest friends is a diehard Bama fan. I had the unfortunate pleasure of watching way too many Bama games the last 2 years. Milroe fucking sucks! He can only throw a deep ball. Can't read any defense, absolutely cannot throw over the middle at all. He can't even lay the ball out in the flats for RBs consistently. He runs around like Johnny Manziel and waits for someone to come open 40 yards down the field, or he just runs, which he is very good at. He just is NOT an NFL QB talent. I don't want the Rams to touch him with even a 6th round draft choice. Like I said, I have probably watched damn near every recent Bama game. NO!

Yeah, he came here when we had no cap space to sign a decent back up. They thought the 25 yr old rookie with a lot of big game experience could step right in to be a decent back up with not much more of a ceiling to that role.

The fact that they signed Garrapolo last year, means he is no longer needed as he is NOT a candidate to ever be a starter. He is just keeping a seat warm until they identify a potential long-term starter.

I actually think they kept Bennett because he came back and wanted to see how he handled the whole year being on the roster. They made a mistake drafting him and IMO, they are ready to move on with someone they draft this year or someone else they can pickup that offers more if the plan is to keep 3 QB's.

I will say again that I think too much emphasis is placed on running ability at QB nowadays. It is fine to have mobility and some off sched ability, in fact it is a big plus, provided the QB can win from the pocket. If you cannot read quickly, see the field well, and make good decisions from the pocket with a rush closing faster and defenses being more nuanced and deceptive at the NFL level, you are not an NFL QB.

A quick throw will always be faster than any QB can run. So it is about ball distribution first and foremost.

The real travesty is when teams overdraft the athletes based on sky high projections. Richardson for example going as high as he did was a fucking joke. If he had slid a bit and maybe some team snaps him up later and he gets the redshirt he needed he would have been better off. But teams take a QB high they cannot help themselves. The pressure of playing them wins out. So then you end up running the dude a ton and like with RBs that could affect shelf life. On top of that you have the issue of paying a redshirt and long term project top pick range money, not a huge issue but every little bit adds up.

Translation with Milroe is he needs to slide in the draft then get snapped up by a good org and redshirted. Let him learn the offense, and have a pro QB coach work his mechanics and processing habits and LOS learning curve. Dude has a long way to go. And ironically the same could be said for Dart. Who also would be best served sliding due to being a bit of a project and getting redshirted. Dart's ideal falling spot would be 26 to the Rams for that reason IMO. Gives the Rams a 5 year contract window, and he won't need to play immediately because they will have a QB1 and QB2 to take care of the snaps, barring him learning very fast.

There’s always a QB sleeper it seems.
And this one dons number 9.

On the potential #1 QB of the future, it seems to me that they need to draft that guy in the 1st round or skip it altogether. I don't see any of the projected later round guys being the QB of the future.

I remember the Sam Bradford days. I'm not so keen on hitching our wagon to a guy who struggled to stay on the field in college.
At least all his injuries have been bone related and just plain bad luck. I'm a lot less worried about that then something like a knee tear.
