I will say again that I think too much emphasis is placed on running ability at QB nowadays. It is fine to have mobility and some off sched ability, in fact it is a big plus, provided the QB can win from the pocket. If you cannot read quickly, see the field well, and make good decisions from the pocket with a rush closing faster and defenses being more nuanced and deceptive at the NFL level, you are not an NFL QB.

A quick throw will always be faster than any QB can run. So it is about ball distribution first and foremost.

The real travesty is when teams overdraft the athletes based on sky high projections. Richardson for example going as high as he did was a fucking joke. If he had slid a bit and maybe some team snaps him up later and he gets the redshirt he needed he would have been better off. But teams take a QB high they cannot help themselves. The pressure of playing them wins out. So then you end up running the dude a ton and like with RBs that could affect shelf life. On top of that you have the issue of paying a redshirt and long term project top pick range money, not a huge issue but every little bit adds up.

Translation with Milroe is he needs to slide in the draft then get snapped up by a good org and redshirted. Let him learn the offense, and have a pro QB coach work his mechanics and processing habits and LOS learning curve. Dude has a long way to go. And ironically the same could be said for Dart. Who also would be best served sliding due to being a bit of a project and getting redshirted. Dart's ideal falling spot would be 26 to the Rams for that reason IMO. Gives the Rams a 5 year contract window, and he won't need to play immediately because they will have a QB1 and QB2 to take care of the snaps, barring him learning very fast.
all great points

this QB class sucks but it's not like there are still narrow lanes for some of these guys to succeed, but the room for error is virtually nil. All these guys need to go to like the exact right staff for them and all of them need to sit and most don't deserve to be taken over 50 other players in the draft

Yeah where it sucks is at the top. It has a lot of interesting projects who have talent who would make up a real nice class if there were a couple good ones for the top of the pile, unfortunately they will get pushed up the board due to need.

At least all his injuries have been bone related and just plain bad luck. I'm a lot less worried about that then something like a knee tear.
That doesn't ease my concerns. One bone-related injury is bad luck. Those injuries happening almost every year is indicative of a much bigger problem.

I doubt Milroe goes high in the draft, so he should have that shot. And I'd absolutely take him if he slides to the third round. He's flawed, but they're fixable flaws. His athletic gifts are quite rare. Any QB taken outside the first 40 picks is going to be a lottery ticket. I'll bet on the guy who has the arm talent and mobility to be an impact player if the intelligence and work ethic are there (and they reportedly are with Milroe).

As for Anthony Richardson, agreed that the Colts did him wrong. They should have sat him. But the biggest issue I had with Ant was his lack of durability. If you're going to be a big QB whose game is premised on athleticism and mobility, you need to be able to withstand the beating you'll take in the NFL. Based on his time in college, there were many reasons to doubt he could. And that's proving true in the NFL. Milroe was durable in college.

The 2nd clavicle break was likely due to it not being fully healed the first time.

So, are two breaks, fibula & clavicle a concern? Not sure. Bone density issues? Or freak breaks?

I wonder if they would reach to draft him at 26 or earky rd 2 aftwr a small trade down...IF they really like him? Some are saying he will be a day2 pick, maybe before we get a shot at him in rd 3.
I like him in the 3rd round and feel good about him being there.

It happening three years in a row is a concern, yes. Maybe he stays healthy for the next decade. If so, great. But the last thing I want is for us to end up in a situation where we're having to worry our QB will end up on IR every year. We dealt with that with Bradford. And SF dealt with that with Jimmy Garoppolo. It's not a good spot to be in.

Two teams publicly wanted Richardson solely based on athletic profile. Milroe is very similar. I think a team picks him in round 1 as a swing for the fences

I don’t want the Rams picking any QBs in the top three rounds. And if Dart is their pick at 26 it would be a wasted shot. He's got the physical part down but he doesn’t have it mentally that I’ve seen.

I don’t see it. Stafford has 2 years left most likely. They are even more in win now mode. I expect them to make a couple of big moves this off-season to get offensive weapons and use the draft to fill whatever holes are left.
The way this draft is lining up... it is deep at TE and RB, which happens to be positions of need for us, so we would pick up some good ones in rd 3. We do need a WR, but there's just no one in the 1st rd worth the pick at #26. We kinda need CB, but we've done well recently to pick up Kinchens & Forbes & Witherspoon, who all improved down the stretch. So if needed, we *could* wait to pick a CB as well.
That leaves a window open for a possible QB pick at #26, which could be a wise move for the Rams. Sure, the draft for QB's next year looks awesome, but if we win our division again w/ Stafford?? no chance we get one anyway, unless we trade in all our 1sts for the next 3 years & throw in one of our best players to move up high enough to get Manning.
My basic criteria for finding a QB: which ones started last year (or year before), and the program improved & got more wins? and which ones started last year, and the program hit a slide?? (looking at you, Milroe)

I agree with this 100%. The QB primarily needs to be a strong pocket passer.

I would add though, in today's NFL, the Rams should find the guy who is a strong pocket passer AND one who provides mobility. IMO, the mobility is pretty near necessary.

The Rams don’t have to draft a QB. They may just sign Zach Wilson to a three year deal and try to make him the QB of the future. He still has more potential than most of these QBs in this draft.

Not opposed to this. Maybe Payton would tell McVay whether the kid has matured while in Denver.

OR....they could just skip the 'QB of the Future' thing this year since the draft doesn't really line up with that aspiration. I don't think Zach Wilson is it either.

Next year's draft looks much stronger to address the issue.

So much of what we're talking about here rests on a sliding doors moment in the draft:

- It's fairly reasonable given reporting to assume that Snead will want to trade down in the draft from 26
- We may not get a trade offer, it may not be good enough, we may end up staying at 26

For me, I mock for both and when I mock for a trade down, I mock an unfavorable trade since teams are gonna be reluctant to trade up in a flat talent class on the 1st and 2nd day.

Trading down makes unlocking finding a QB in the draft more likely even if I don't think it's very likely at all. And then, there's always a shot that a guy like Sanders is there at 26. I actually think it's a fair discussion to have about taking him there.

I would be absolutely fine with that, but methinks the Raiders like Wilson.

After watching at least 20 of his games, his flaws are not fixable. If he were to have another year at Bama he doesn't even make it out of spring practice as their starter this year. Let the Browns mess this kid up, not us.

I've watched most of his games casually and multiple games specifically to evaluate his play. His flaws are potentially fixable. Milroe improved throughout the 2023 season. He took a step back in 2024 in a system that he did not seem comfortable in. I would not think twice about taking a shot on him on Day 2.

I watched Jalen Hurts throughout his college career. In his second year as a starter at Bama, he did not look like a NFL QB and got benched for true freshman Tua in the national title game. Milroe was only in his second year as a starter, so I'm not throwing the towel in on him. Additionally, Josh Allen couldn't hit the broadside of a barn in college. I didn't think he'd be successful. Boy did he improve. A lot of people were convinced that Lamar would not pan out. He wasn't that accurate in college. Well, he worked at it and fixed the issue.

We're in a position where we can be patient, let him learn behind Stafford, and let him polish his game. Then, when the time comes, McVay can design his offense around Milroe's game. If McVay is on board, I'm on board. And the Rams seem at least a little interested because they reportedly have met with him. I'd bet on his athletic gifts. If he doesn't pan out, oh well, he wasn't a first round pick. That's how it goes for most QBs taken outside the first round.

If Richardson went first round milroe definitely going first … les said he wanted a qb that can run if milroe there at 26 he might be a ram
I see your point and while he's a good example of why a team is willing to reach for a QB, he's also an example of why you dont draft a QB with that many flaws in the 1st round.
