Cardinals at Rams Vent Thread

We got our Super Bowl last year and we should still cherish it.

Since we wouldn't do anything even if we somehow managed to scrape into the playoffs in any event; it would be better to have a worse record and be drafting from better positions in each round (no first round pick next year, of course) and finally bring in higher quality young talent, something noticeably lacking on the Rams, with a few exceptions.

We have to go all the way back to Gurley to see the importance of having a talented first round player.

This organization has whiffed on a lot of second round picks dating back to the Fisher and Linehan eras (sorry to bring back the painful memories of those esteemed coaches)

We'll be losing some starters to free agency at the end of the season and getting some future comp picks in return.

We're going to have to do better job of assessing our talent and and start giving some game reps to younger players, particularly in positions where our starters aren't getting it done, as we have to know what we have and whether to go outside for replacements.

This year has been the worst of both worlds - we're losing and at the same time only Oline backups have seen meaningful game time.

We clearly have positions in need of upgrading and we must have better internal technical development in the areas of blocking, tackling, defensive pass coverage technique, etc.

We could use new Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, as our game planning and play calling are not areas of strength.

Defensively, I am not a fan of our defence and the Cards game again exposed the fact that we're just not that good on D.

We just can't make stops when needed and we get burned by mediocre QB's, with our passive scheme and combined with a scarcity of impactful playmakers.

It's better to take our lumps now to improve for the future.

The bully came to the beach, beat us up and stole our girlfriend this year.

Let's just pump ourselves up, hit the weights and return to the beach to exact our revenge on the bully next year.

Whoever plays the Giants is basically golden. Like the 2.6 powerball winner.

I firmly believe the Rams won't hold on to draft capital outright. I think they continue the formula with this core but again has to be young cornerstone type. I'm sure they monitor burns and now after the season his value would be less with one yr remaining. Sweat etc. To early to even discuss. I'm sick to my stomach but thank God for our ring.

IDK. At some point, they have to reboot. We will see.

We don't know how much the cap will rise I also think some changes will be made to get cap. Also I believe noteboom probably cut but a real LT will he had. They aren't going to rebuild with Stafford AD Kupp etc. Retool maybe I truly believe they stick to the formula but the smart way. Also Mcvay doesn't seem like he staying for the long haul to go through losing seasons and rebuild and honestly the fan base is harsh with a Superbowl run a Superbowl defense I cringe at the thought of SoFi with 5-12 records ugh.

Even with a rising cap, they're incredibly tight AND don't have a lot of contracts to play with. We'll see if they get REALLY crazy and sign extensions that will absolutely mean dead money down the road in order to open space up next season.

What's happening here is the Super Bowl win went to McVay's head. There are undeniable issues with the personnel up front but he has completely disregarded the run game and all of its potential benefits. Today was probably supposed to be a "let's run the ball" game. I know that because it had to be. But he couldn't help himself.

I know the Rams self-scout. Why isn't that dude kicking his fucking office door in.

The stubbornness is maddening.

I wish he'd take a cue from John Robinson. JRob came into the NFL making his living running the ball, then running the ball, and after that, running the ball some more. Passing was something that was relatively rare in his early offenses, with most balls thrown in the pre-gam warmups. But JRob looked at the NFL landscape, looked at himself, and realized he had to change. So he got him a QB, went an hired Ernie Zampese, and within two years the Rams had one of the most exciting and potent offenses in the NFL - one that could really burn you through the air. And the best part about it is that he didn't have to throw away the run game, even after FO mismanagement led to a trade of the best RB in the game at the time. Greg Bell - no Dickerson for sure - was still able to run very effectively in that offense (and behind a line full of road-grading studs) and churn out a couple of thousand-yard seasons.

I wish McVay would look at himself the way JRob did and be willing to make some fundamental changes to his approach. He should also consult his Machiavelli:

I didn't watch the game. Don't know when I'll next watch one this year. I want to enjoy my Sundays. But I've said for a few years now that we need to find a legitimate backup QB. Hopefully, today drove that point home. We may not have a lot of picks, but McVay should use a pick on a QB to develop. It's unfortunate we didn't target Sam Howell at the end of the fourth round last year. I think he'd have made a nice developmental QB for us.

Interesting dilemna for Les. This year is pretty much lost. I mean - they aren’t mathematically eliminated but for all practical purposes, it’s over. But this team is still in a win now window. That window includes next year and the year after - and that’s probably about it with the current core.

So what do you do with the rest of this year? Just Play it out? Try to develop some younger guys? Is there a strategy that makes sense?

Thankful that people are waking up to the fact that John Wolford is not a good QB.

Yeah, I gotta admit I was guilty of thinking Wolford could be good. Today's game cured me of that notion. Wolford looked terrible, his accuracy was awful. Only problem is I don't believe in Perkins, either.

Rams have a ton of needs for next year, and unfortunately we gotta add backup QB to the list.

One of the biggest issues this offseason is there is just no money AND no flexibility with the CAP. They're pretty fucked. Very few places to squeeze anything.

Best hope for '23? Health.. a shit-ton of improvement from young players.. and a fucking incredible draft.
