Johnny Hekker, scones and afternoon tea

Popular punter

Sunday’s game features Gurley, Rams quarterback Jared Goff and other star players such as Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer, running back Adrian Peterson and receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Fans, however, are apt to save their loudest cheers for Rams punter Johnny Hekkerand other specialists.

That has become a norm during international series games.

“You get a lot of recognition because it’s a familiar deal for them,” Hekker said. “A lot of their sports out here involve a lot of footwork and kicking the ball.

“So, especially soccer, their football is a lot more foot-oriented.”

Hekker also has raised his profile by participating in ambassadorial trips to Great Britain. Last summer, he was the subject of video about his first afternoon tea.

Hekker, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is averaging 46.9 yards per punt.

“When you match up great personality, great person and great production as a player I think you get a special combination of things,” McVay said. “And that’s really what Johnny Hekker represents for us, and it’s easy to see why when he comes over here he becomes a popular player for us.”

Hekker said he looked forward to Sunday, and watching fans continue to learn about American football.

“I love to see them getting a grasp on what other players do,” he said. “The sport here has grown a ton.”

Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch has been suspended one game for shoving an official during Thursday night’s game against the Chiefs.

The NFL announced on Friday evening that NFL V.P. of Football Operations Jon Runyan issued the suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct.

“You made deliberate physical contact with one of our game officials as he was diffusing an active confrontation between players,” Runyan wrote in a letter to Lynch that the NFL released. “You were disqualified for your inappropriate and unsportsmanlike actions. Your conduct included pushing the game official and grabbing his jersey.”

Runyan also noted that Lynch wasn’t even involved in the skirmish until he chose to get himself involved.

“You were the only player from either team who ran from the sideline to midfield to insert himself into a situation in which he was not directly involved,” Runyan wrote.

Lynch has the right to appeal the suspension. If he does not successfully appeal, he will miss the Raiders’ October 29 game against the Bills and be allowed to return on Monday, October 30.

PFT’s Week Seven picks

One game... ONE GAME.. and everyone's on the AP bandwagon full throttle. Saw it on a lot of other predictions I checked this morning... AP is back!! Geesh.

I'm not saying he's done... but this is pretty knee-jerk.

Of course, that's all these clowns do... jerk their knees (and other body parts).

I thought he looked kind of slow, really. Got caught from behind a bunch of times. Still an effective runner, tho.

I would be very surprised if we score less than 30 on the Cardinals D.

We have 3 players that are a bit problematic, huh?

dances left to right instead of just going
This is what drives me nuts... sideways...sideways...dancing...backwards...

Yeah, sometimes he shakes loose of the defenders... but too many many times, he gets pinned back for no gain or a loss.

He's best when he just runs north and south... if the hole isn't there, do NOT go sideways or backwards.

Just get what you can and live to run another play.

It's still early but........

If this team wins 10+ games i'm going to be proud of Ogletree, Saffold, Quinn, Donald, Barron, Joyner, Tru, Brokers, Hekker, Gurley, Tavon and Snead

Without getting into X's & O's, all those guys including Snead were around last year. Last year was 4-12, with the Whiners creaming us twice.

Rams make one change. They busted out their stroller, set up the crib, rolled in McVay and look what happens. Finally, a guy who actually cares about winning a game!

Coaching these days is huge in a league full of parity. I think it's ok to go ahead and add McVay to your proud list. He's 1st on my list!

Hugh Hefner has passed away at the age of 91

When I was growing up, there were 3 things on the back of the toilet in the family bathroom: a Bridge (card game) magazine, Playboy and if I was really lucky, the Wall Street Journal.

I was really young, so I always got excited when a WSJ was left, but I liked to read on the back of the toilet and naturally opened them up.

From a young age, I got to read AMAZING interviews and cutting-edge literature as well as get to see nude women who were very attractive and natural (this was in the 70s and very early 80s). So I grew up with this image that women were fantastic, beautiful, complex PEOPLE who had their own wants, needs, and desires. This as opposed to the first time many years later I saw a Penthouse and I thought even as a youth that Penthouse was more about a man's projection of a woman versus how a woman would choose to present themselves. I honestly found Penthouse to be offputting.

Much of what I learned from those pages, from the ribald humor to the raunchy jokes to the revolutionary cultural content, has served me well as a man, husband, father, and citizen.

Hef led the charge to talk about sex, sensuality, and sexuality a fun and real way. At least at the time, the women were natural (was before the airbrushed poses), beautiful women who existed in the world. Most of them weren't actresses or models as well.

Everyone has their favorites... 25th Anniversary with Candy Loving sitting in that Champagne cup...blew my mind. The Kim Basinger edition where she became Playmate of the year. I truly feel that Kim Basinger's PotY layout was as much as an homage to the ideal female figure as Arnold Schwarzenegger's poses were an homage to the male form. There were others as well as the editions with interviews of Alex Haley, Wilt Chamberlain, Fidel Castro, and so many others...

Playboy was part of a movement as well as moment.

I would further argue that it wasn't porn at all, but erotica and literature at a time when those boundaries were able to be pushed. Moreover, it wasn't about being extreme, but fun, honest and real.

His stance on fighting segregation is very important, too. Very important.

He became a bit of a caricature at the end, but his legacy is far more important than his iconic pipe and robe.

Why do I take "we'll be ready next game" as....

I'm good with all this. I like our chances against the pin stripes better and that match up takes me back. What would have been boring would have been an Astros/Cubs WS. Hell - the Astros are barely even an American League club anyway.

I like our chances against anybody.....mainly because we weren't supposed to make it this far. It was supposed to be:
Beat Minnesota (maybe), Lose to Cleveland.

Now? House money.

Going into this year, I just wanted to see how Sanchez, Judge and the other youngsters developed. Halfway through the year I was hoping they'd play meaningful games in September.....to gain valuable experience. Halfway through September I was hoping they'd make the postseason, to gain further experience. Halfway through the postseason, I am hoping they make it to the World Series, however unlikely it will be. The most important thing is the experience but once you get to a certain point, it's 'screw the experience, let's win this series'.

I have to admit a very enjoyable year for me.

Rams hire McVay and appear to be on a huge upswing.
Yankees trade away the old guys and appear to be on a huge upswing.
It ain't exactly 1999 again but that's about the only thing that has outdone this year, for me. And yet, who knows?
