He made it a nightmare to plan against the Rams and gave them two game wreckers in their defensive front instead of one. And we haven't had an edge rusher be that disruptive since prime Quinn. Like in baseball, at the trading deadline, adding an ace pitcher to your staff to make a pennant run.

He was the AFC defensive player of the month in September before his ankle injury slowed him down. I knew he still had it when we got him and I knew what the Rams pass rush could be if you put him and AD together.

I'm not against the idea of one of our younger players stepping up, but I am not taking it for granted either.

So are you saying the Ram defense hasn't been a nightmare to play/plan against with Donald wreaking havoc? That's not the way it's perceived in NFL circles from what I can see/read/hear. It's Aaron Donald and the Rams defense. Not Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn. Or Aaron Donald and Dante Fowler. Or Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd. Or even Aaron Donald and Von Miller. It's AARON DONALD. My god, the Rams staff has proven that. It doesn't matter who they plug in to play next to him....whomever it is looks better along side him and he always makes a huge impact. We didn't lose the 2018 Superbowl because Aaron Donald, Dante Fowler and the Rams D didn't do their job. We lost the 2018 Superbowl because Goff and McVay's offense didn't do theirs. And in 2021, Stafford and McVay's offense did their job.

Let's not discount the effect Bobby Wagner will have on this defense. I realize he's not an edge but he is not just replacing Reeder either. I think fhe Rams will pair him with Ernest Jones and greatly improve the run and pass defense significantly over last year. Yeah they lost Von but they are also much better in other areas.

I'm absolutely FASCINATED by what the Rams D could look like this coming season.
Best case scenario? If young players take significant steps up? Guys like Rochell, Burgess, Fuller and Long? And if Scott can build on what he did in the post season?
We could have an absolutely hellacious secondary that is versatile and aggressive.

That 5 yard cushion would be an absolute flaming mess to officiate and a penalty generator all in one.

Then again I haven’t seen a CFL game in ages, and how that rule is officiated, so maybe I’m wrong.

The NFL always seems to have court issues hanging in the balance.

The Rams and NFL reached a settlement with the city of St. Louis last November, ending the four-year lawsuit over the team’s relocation to Los Angeles. The settlement was for $790 million, and Rams owner Stan Kroenke agreed to pay the legal costs that came with this move from St. Louis.

Since then, Kroenke has attempted to get out of covering those legal expenses, which angered other NFL owners during the league meetings last October. To help pay for the settlement – which, according to The Athletic, Kroenke argues is different than the legal fees he promised to pay – the NFL has taken $7.5 million from each team.

Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic reports that was deducted from each team’s revenue-sharing payments, a sum that comes to $232.5 million. Understandably, team executives were surprised by this costly development, with no clarity of whether the money will be paid back to them if Kroenke covers the entire amount himself.

The team executives described surprise at the move and complained that the action had caused budgeting issues because of the sudden charge and not knowing whether the money would be returned if Kroenke is ordered by the NFL to pay the whole sum.

As beneficial as the move from St. Louis to Los Angeles has been for the Rams, it’s also been a costly one for Kroenke and the other NFL owners.

I guess its safe to say that you dont read responses to you in threads you create? Hunter has already hit the Vikings cap for 25 mill, and would have additional 3-4 mill in dead cap if traded or released. They wouldnt save any of that if he's traded, nor is it transferable because it was already paid. The only thing they "save" is the 2022 guaranteed salary of 1.4 mill.

The League has decided to gear the rules to assist the passing game and scoring. Running the ball and the clock still has it's purpose... but it isn't the game plan for winning games all by itself anymore.

You cannot rely on one RB to carry any team to the promise land in the game today. You need to have a stable of backs because most RBs can't survive a 17 game schedule and the playoffs producing at a high level. The rules and the game have changed... no team is gonna run the ball to the promise land in the game today. The league has made sure of that. Nobody wants to watch Ground and Pound today... scoring and big plays create excitement and better ratings. That is what determines the direction that a The League will take and promote.

This is the obvious reason why the running game is dying on the vine. It will never be the most important focus of a team that expects to win it all anymore. The rule changes have insured that to be reality.

Teams that rely on running the ball and running QBs are not bringing home Lombardi trophies in today's league/rules. That's just the way it is now.

Fantasy Football players have more value in stat producing RBs than the highest level NFL teams do today. There are 2 very different games today... people who are into fantasy football, and people who are into actual football. The 2 are very different from each other. Totally different if we're being honest.
