8to12 Rams Mock 2.0 mid free agency period

I guess I took Jourdan R. quite literally in one of her recent interviews where she said that there might not be any Special teams coaches hanging out with Snead and McVey in their Draft house with their want lists. It seems they are going to be drafting as many positional (offense & defense) players as possible and bringing in specialists as UDFA's.
Good Point and I guess last year they watched some UDRFA specialist do well, however, I would think they would look at a kicker at a minimum, but if that is the case I get it and hopefully they will have plenty of choices.

Restoring the Roar

he did make a significant mistake in not firing his DC this offseason. Glenn btw seems like a great dude but he's not the DC you need to elevate a franchise.

From what I've heard Pleasant was the scapegoat for a lot of Glenn's mistakes which is why he's back here in LA. Glenn installed a Fangio style defense, much like Morris ran here for the past two years. It's in essence a read / react style to not dominate an offense but to limit big plays. Pleasant got the blame for the failure of that scheme instituted by Glenn. Interestingly, under Staley, Ram DBs played aggressively and helped lift this defense into a number one ranking. Interestingly, once his whipping boy was gone Glenn dumped the Fangio style defense and moved to a 3-4 hybrid one gap, attacking style of scheme, which the Ravens and Duker who was a defensive assistant in Baltimore play. Suddenly the defense is playing better. IMO it wasn't Pleasant that was the problem it was Glenn's Fangio read / react style that he insisted upon that was the problem.

So I'm hoping that Pleasant can bring back that aggressive style of DB play the Rams had under Staley within the framework of Morris' Tampa Two style two deep shell. Duker is probably going to save Glenn's ass in the same way Pleasant might save Morris' butt. Like I've said I don't care if Morris is calling the plays, he's just poor coaching the players. C'mon Aubrey bring back that Staley aggressive style.

When the Rams make the playoffs in 2023…

It's not even the defense I'm worried about...it's the offense.
Both sides of the ball require a lot of things to go our way this season. But there are better pieces on the offense. More talent if you will. Whereas the defense has more guys that I think are much more unlikely to step up.

So if the Rams agree with that sentiment it is entirely possible we're about to see a defensive draft. If they trade down they can still add a couple key pieces on offense like maybe a TE somewhere in the earlier rounds and an iOL later and still load up the defensive side.

That's what I'm hoping will happen. Defense badly needs an influx of talent.

3 sleeper prospects for Rams to target in 2023 NFL Draft - Your Sleepers?

I'm going to continue to pound the table for Jaren Hall. He has all the tools to be a + starter. His biggest negatives are; he is not 6'4 and he is an older prospect. Those negatives are going to push him down the draft to an extremely valuable range for us to grab a back up with potential for cheap.

I absolutely agree. He's got incredible athleticism, a strong and accurate arm, but he's an injury concern with his size, and he'll be twenty-five because he's from BYU. But I fucking love this kid's upside.

Anyway, here's my three sleeper picks:

Thomas Incoom, EDGE, Central Michigan.

(The first thing I see when I look at Incoom is his hustle. His motor is constantly hot, he's always working toward the ball, which makes him excellent at setting the edge on contain; he knows that if he gets to the quarterback eventually, that the QB will eventually make a mistake. He's surprisingly-athletic, and he's obviously a 3-4 outside linebacker with his size. He doesn't have the technical know-how just yet, but he has that sort of potential. Honestly reminds me of Samson Ebukam at the same age.)

Lew Nichols III, RB, Central Michigan.

(Probably the single most-impressive player on this team when he's at his best. Nichols has the ability to completely take over games with his physical, punishing, tackle-breaking running. He's not just some plodder either; he's more athletic than a 5'11", 220 lbs. back has any right to be, able to beat people to the corner when he bounces out. He'll get caught from behind, but we're talking about a 5'11", 220 pounder; if he was Steven Jackson in college, he'd go in the first. As it is, I could easily see him as a Day 3 pick. He needs to work on his third down play. He's willing in pass protection, but isn't there yet. He has okay hands for screens, but I'm not sure about other receiving traits. Still, he really gives me Marion Barber vibes.)

Arquon Bush, CB, Cincinnati.

(Bush is as good a ballhawk corner as you'll see in the later rounds, and he's willing to lay the boom. He has nine picks, fifteen pass breakups, and he's got solid size at 6'0", 187 lbs. He's not the most athletic cornerback; he's not the plodder that Derion Kendrick is, but he's not one who's going to impress with long speed. It may make him more useful in the slot, but he has the instincts for the ball, to bait quarterbacks, to stick his nose in running plays to be a very valuable late round pick. He's what Derion Kendrick wishes he was.)

Your Top 5 QB’s by Conference

If 9 is healthy and motivated I am sure he'll be among that top group but I am worried about his age, mileage, and whether he's gonna be fully back. So no reason to stick him up there.

He's clutch as F though when he's healthy no doubt about it.

Sean McVay interview at owners meetings

I've said this before. As long as the Rams have Snead and McVay this franchise will be a contender. They will find the guys and make it happen. They have a culture here that is unique in the NFL. It's why top free agents want to come to LA. Players will see how just a partial season in LA gave them the opportunity to resurrect Mayfield's career. Playing for McVay in this market carries a lot of weight. That isn't lost on the players in the NFL. It's most visible with the coaches, but it's also with the players.

Yeah, as long as the Rams have Snead and McVay they will be in the hunt. I would bet that between now and the end of the 2025 season this team will be in the Super Bowl again. This time Snead is going to build a team that isn't just a one year wonder. They are building the foundation for that team this year. That is what all the cap clearing is for. I don't see them signing one year rental gunslingers anymore. I think from now on any vet they bring in will be on a multiyear basis. Ramsey and Floyd were key contributors and are the way to go. No more OBJs and Millers.

UFL GDT - XFL Week 4 Game Thread

I read somewhere the XFL went to Vegas with the intention of using Sam Boyd, but UNLV effectively closed it down for business because Allegient. The league was left scrambling and ended up with garbage Cashman.

Found the article. Sounds like piss-poor communication and planning. Doesn't sound like they officially pursued Sam Boyd though, since it was never on the table.

Are there positions that are off the board for Round 2?

Honestly, I'd like the following positions to be off limits at 36:
RB - No back that should be available here is going to be much if any talent upgrade on Akers and many available later
MLB - Dont think any worth it here
OT - don't see any that would be great value at 36)
Safety - none talented enough IMO
WR - Do not need to pick one here, especially if the expected 1st round talent ones go as planned
TE - I'm personally not in love with any TE this high
QB - Unless one of the big 4 drop, no. Just no.

Any of the rest I could see happening (obviously not special teams guys or FBs). Edge, DL, CB, IOL should be our main concerns.
