They're "retooling" the Offense, but haven't retooled a damn thing.

They're rebuilding the Defense from scratch. And that's not even a debate.

Going to try and rebuild it with a bunch of mid round and late rounders. Boy, this should be fun.

The difference is the quality of the org from the owner down. So yes I expect them to avoid the same collapse. Shit question too tbh.

Ownership and front office are completely different, so as a fan we have to believe so. IMO the Georgia was content with a SB. After the Patriot loss (cheaters), the team imploded from within.

Plus, in McVay we have a coach who's willing to look in the mirror once in a while and do some honest self-evaluation. Martz was all ego, and when something didn't work out, he doubled down on it until it eventually destroyed him. He didn't work well with others either. He was as much a part of the fall of the GSOT as he was its rise, and there is a reason he's never been a HC in the NFL again despite having a winning record with the Rams.

Remodel is actually perfect.. they're gutting it, using the current framework to rebuild.

What's that framework? McVay, Snead, Stafford, Donald, Kupp.

Yeah it's crazy how gutted our defense is. Here's an article explaining it. Crazy ..

I’m sure we hate to say it and think it (let alone go thru it) - but the truth is we are better off LT being horrible enough in 2023 to get a top 1-3 pick and get our QB of the future.
That’s better than being a 7-9 win team and trading 3 FRPs to move up for a QB.

Defense can be built back up really fast by utilizing the draft appropriately.

It's the offense that takes far more time, especially in the units involved in the blocking schemes. RB's have no idea how to be the final protection for #9. The TE working with the OL'ers also takes time. McVay used a WR in the backfield last season because he learned it better than any of the RB's. Everyone knows the problems involved in building a smooth functioning OL.

DL- Hvae no idea if DC Morris is going to run a 34D or 43 D. He just does not have any real 34 D components leftovers.

Under contract (43 DE) -Mike Hoecht/ Zach VanValkenburg/ Keir Thomas/ Earnest Brown are large linemen, not OLB'ers. The only OLB is Daniel Hardy. 34 DL- Johah Williams/ 3T DT Aaron Donald/ NT Bobby Brown/ T.J. Carter 5T DE/ Larrell Murchison 3T DT. This above might be a decent 43 DL. Snead going to need another NT to go with Bobby Brown.

DC Morris does have 3 ILB'ers in Ernest Jones/ Christian Rozeboom & Jake Hummel. It's been obvious that several OLB'ers will be drafted by Snead. to blend in with the 3 above.

It's going to be interesting watching what Snead does defensively in this drat to give me clues on what direction they are going but certainly, young rookie OLB'ers are going to be very hot additions.

IMHO the credit card bill is coming due. That's all. Can't push cap $ into the future forever.
We all knew it was coming just didn't expect it to come all at once. even though that is probably the best way to do it.
It appears we are looking to do it again.
Clearing a bunch of cap to add a couple of new pillars and surrounding them with low-cost players. There isn't a lot of room for good mid-priced veterans. Now we wait and see who they have planned to be our new big dogs. Hopefully they don't trade away all of picks again and sign some FAs next offseason.

Fans are gonna need patience. Are some gonna jump off the bandwagon this season? Sure. Only us diehards are gonna stick with them through thick and thin. Make no mistake, its gonna be thin.

We've endured worse before McVay came along. I firmly believe if we let them stay the course and show patience, we'll appreciate it and be rewarded in the next year or two.

If this is the case, the team shouldn't be critiqued for their performance this year. Player, coach, GM. Doesn't matter.

Basically, there are only 2 ways to acquire stud talent. You either trade cash, picks (oor both) if you can locate a trade partner for the item you wish to acquire -- or you suck for a year, to obtain the needed draft pick.

Just don't blow smoke up my ass telling me we will be competitive. There is already a line of people blowing the smoke, these days.... take a number!

I wondered if a switch back to a 4-3 was possible, too.
Then they hired McVay's buddy Joe Conglio as an OLB Coach.
No need for an OLB Coach in a 4-3 defense.

Gee. I believe the Rams can be competitive this year.

They just need a good draft and undrafted free agency period.
The team needs to remain relatively healthy like they had in prior years.
And McVay's needs to put more emphasis on running the freaking football.

I don’t believe in luck in the NFL. McSnead were able to turn around a well below average team into a Super Bowl contender in 2 years. And it was pretty masterful imo. I trust they can do it again but it won’t be overnight. As a long time Rams fan I’m willing to give it 2 years. If you’re not willing to come along for the ride you’re either too impatient to be a Rams fan or haven’t been a Rams fan long enough. Either way, feel free to join the ranks of Lions or Jaguar fans as there are plenty of seats on those buses.

I hear ya, I mostly posted that to show how inexperienced our current defensive players are snap wise. It's crazy that we only have 2 defensive players that played over 50% of the snaps last year. In my eyes, that isn't easy to replace as you are stating. If that were the case, we would have found the edge opposite of Floyd long ago.

What? Luck is always a part of it and we had some really bad luck last year as well as some good luck when we won the ring. I agree with you that the changes won't come overnight. I'm sure many of us will go along for the ride but it'll definitely be bumpy with a flat tire or 2 lol. What the Rams do with that cap space and FA money next year will go a long way towards whether or not we have success. I'm not a huge believer in banking on past success because the league is full of smart people constantly evolving and it's a copy cat league. Hopefully are smart guys in charge will evolve and out manuever the other teams to get us back to glory. It'll be interesting to watch for sure.

We need to draft better than we usually do, by a lot. The rest of the league gets a draft too, so it’s hard for me to see the draft as an avenue that’s going to solve much. My faith is mainly in McVay and our coaching.

Totally untrue.

The draft is filled with guys drafted outside of the first round that are absolute studs... and first rounds of the past are littered with guys who never worked out.

You have to do a good job scouting AND have some luck. In a draft like this year.. I think you go all in on getting as many top 150 players as you can and you will end up with some players.

Would I love it if they acquired good players to compete every year? And still win a championship? Absolutely. But that is too difficult with the salary cap. Unless you have an elite quarterback, you have a choice. Keep your picks. Use your cap dollars wisely every year. And you can keep a competitive team year after year. Make the playoffs, but no championships. Or go all in. Sacrifice the future for a championship. Then have a couple bad years and wait to do it all over again.

Looks like the Rams chose the latter. We're now paying the price for winning a championship with that strategy. Some people would rather have playoffs every year and fall short than go for a title and pay the price a year or two later. For me, it was worth it. And I hope if they're in another position to go all in they don't hesitate.

Take a look at the Lakers. They've had history of trading picks for star players. Or wait till they have the money to sign a star free agent. Then fill the roster with role players to compliment them. Sure, they've had some bad seasons. But they've won quite a few championships that way. No one has won more.
