Zone can work if you get great pressure but when it fails it can fail big. You have to adjust if you aren't getting pressure.
Buffalo used zone almost exclusively but they got pressure with 4 and we could do nothing to counter. It is a fluid chess match and sometimes you just fail to adjust while hoping you suddenly execute. we did not and they did
That ^^. When you can get pressure with 4 like they did, it ruins offensive game plans. They weren't just getting pressure either. They were running past and through the Rams OL. That was an alarmingly bad game for the OL. Also likely a bad harbinger for the rest of the season.

As far as Ramsey is concerned, I expect him to be OK going forward. When he did that interview where he talked about all the QBs back in the day I remember thinking it was cringy, and it was. He has definitely matured since then.

Why on God's green earth would you take an elite man coverage CB and make him play zone/"star", negating the "Revis Island effect" he can have on a defense???

The Chargers would gladly give us a 1st and a 5th for him. Frankly, we keep him or Morris. It was apparent last year but it's glaringly obvious now.

Plus we could use a first round pick to trade down for a 2nd and a 3rd to get some interior OL help.

This top heavy team could sink quickly if something isn't done soon.

(Sorry, I thought I got it all out in the vent thread.)

All good . My concern without reading but your post is about RAMSey. He will be asking for a lot
Of money. Might be more of a ME player. Raheem Morris might have lost Jalen’s respect & could be mocking the DC? Shula has his hands full.
The Truth is The Rams have some nice you CB’s that could be starters on this Rams team. Jalen looks in Great shape physically. ?

Who knows what happens, but David Long is gone next season. I was upset with the special team, making The Rams loss in ALl 3 PHASES against the Bills.

FYI Ramsey is 27. Soon to be 28. It feels like he has been around forever, but he is not that old. He still should have at least a few more elite years left, physically. I still can't believe the hate in this thread.

Morris is a different story. Time will tell. Not to derail the thread too much, but I was a huge Morris critic last year, and actually wanted him gone. But then, he turned things around when it mattered and the defence went into lockdown mode, making me eat some crow. But alas, I always viewed the jury as still being out for our DC and this season being the true litmus test. Did he turn a corner? Would he take that next step? Would year 2 prove to his advantage e.g. now being adjusted to LA, having had time to implement his system, learn his players strengths and weaknesses, etc.? Or was he simply a benefactor of having Miller and AD99 towards the end of 2021-22?, such that he will revert back to his middling ways now with Miller gone? Time will tell. I was and am cautiously optimistic. Schematically, independent of the talent levels of his players, Morris made some great tweaks for the NFC Championship game vs. the 49ers, that allowed the Rams to at long last contain their running game. Brian Balldinger had some great videos on Twitter breaking it down.

.

People are bringing up quotes from 5 years ago? Fuck me twitter is trash.

And the Rams couldn't get pass rush because Allen was getting rid of the ball quickly, because the Rams were giving up short passes all night long. It's not rocket science.

It's weird how the Rams got beat deep a couple of times when they kept everything in front of them. They changed things up those two plays and got burnt?

.
100% agree

If they played man more and played closer to the line of scrimmage, then the DL would have possibly been able to get pressure on Josh but as it was he was getting rid of the ball within 2.2 seconds because the Rams were giving up easy 5 yard passes.

Ramsey is correct in his twitter exclamation about what went wrong with the defense.

That was a horrible game plan by Morris.

He should have figured out after the second drive that Buffalo was moving easily against that defense and he needed to change up because he should have figured they wouldn't get lucky turnovers all game.

At least by the second half because you just can't count on a team giving up 3 turnovers a half.

Depends...do you think it looks like Jalen is wearing shoes that are 4 sizes too big? If so, then I am you (Canadian version) and we need to put our head(s) together to fix this crap.:laugh1:

LOL LOL That is hilarious. Also, I'm not kidding at all when I ask, have you seen his calfs? or is it calves? Either way, they are so skinny and not really there. I don't know how he can even change directions and run fast without owning calves. But he can, and does.

I've read everyone's comments so far and attempt to be non biased about this. I don't know how much of Ramsey's issue is because of Morris or not. But if it were me, if I wasn't playing lights out on a regular basis, I wouldn't brag about myself so much and think I'm God's gift, or blame my teammates every time I get beat. I think that's what bothers me most about Ramsey. His self worship, when he's not playing that well for quite a while now AND taking a huge portion of the team's Cap Space.

Let's not get into the bash Morris mode. It's one game. Yeah, we played badly but it's not the end of the world. The main thing is that McVay fixes the issues. Stafford looked a bit rusty. There were no receivers out there besides Kupp (it seemed) and honestly, it looked like one of our bad games against the whiners where we could not force a punt, We had them on 3rd and 12 and got penalized for a 12 men on the field penalty which helped them get a first down.

If the Bills play that dink and dunk game, then the coverage needs to tighten up a bit. But what worries me is that Von Miller made a huge difference on that team and now he's trying to get OBJ to come over.

The Rams could really use OBJ. Allen Robinson is new but he was absent last night.
I say Robinson being absent falls solely on Stafford and McVay.

Watch the video I posted on page before this. He explains what they talked about at halftime and why they didn’t change the approach.

I don’t agree w the reasoning, but now I no longer wonder what they were thinking…

I'm not speaking from blind emotion here.
If it were possible, I would trade Ramsey (while some teams still think he's a great player) for a good decent CB and two 2nd round picks. I'd do it instantly too. That money can be spent better elsewhere. He's not making plays .... of any kind!

With as much money as we have in him, and as much worship as he gets, I should be asking for the last 5 game changing plays ..... however ..... Someone please remind me of the last game changing play he's made for us?
He will transition to FS in a few yrs. Like Ronnie Lott & Rod Woodson. Could be great there, but is he worth the same $$$ there?

I blame Morris he is ruining Ramsey moving him all around in his “star” role where he is asked to be in the slot a lot. He needs to be an outside lockdown corner where he is best.
Thid is what ive been saying when they 1st started this dhit with hom. His best vslue is lock down corner. A waste of his best talent

To be fair he’s my least likeable player on the team so I’ve been relatively quiet about him and trying to not be biased. Enough with all that. The dude has been getting roasted on the field for awhile now. As I type this he fell down again trying to cover Tutu on a go route in practice.

If I’m an OC…I have no hesitation targeting Ramsey deep one-on-one all day. He gets beat with straight line speed, he gets beat with concentration, he gets beat because his balance stinks when at full speed.

He’s great in a phone booth. The physicality he brings is priceless. His mouth works. His blame game works too. I’ve heard it said “He’s a leader in his own way.” Ok. Where? In practice? In the locker room? Maybe. We aren’t there. He’s no leader on the field IMO.

He’s playing like a LB if you dropped him into the secondary and told him to do the best he can. Okay some hyperbole there but yeah.

Dude needs to stop talking, grow up, FOCUS and make more plays and occasionally a monster play.

No edge pressure at all. That’s got to improve. I’d like to see More ILB blitz as well.
Edge isn't going to improve because we don't have anyone who is going to threaten a good LT. Rams are going to need to find a blindside rusher at some point before the break or during this upcoming offseason. We're right back to where we were pre-Von basically.

What Morris needs to do is get this secondary playing good team ball. Not have guys running their own program out there. They have a very deep corner group to choose from. Put Ramsey on the opponent's two and double the one. And one of those doubles on the one would be one of the rookie corners, who actually get their heads around when the ball's in the air and look for it.

Good secondary play has the potential to fix everything. The defensive front will be fine if that happens. We just gotta cover this year, the secondary got spoiled last year with our front dominating.

Amen to that! No need for freelance type football. Everyone needs to be on the same page working in unison.

I don't think we see a game like this from Ramsey the rest of the year.

Rod Woodson or Deion Sanders he is not. But he is still more than capable of handling what the Rams ask of him.

You’re right on to the extent there are great years/seasons and great careers.

He has been a shut down corner (sanders) and he has been multi dimensional (woodsen) in that he tackles and can lay the wood.
…but he has been tugging and pulling noticeably more.

I just hope he isn’t a has been.

All that being said, yeah, he’s pretty good and will make some plays for the Rams.

I most definitely agree with you above. Where is he leading? With his play on the field? Nah. By not pointing fingers at others when he gets burned? Nah.

Idc at all when it's fans trash talking but seeing the blue checkmark """"""journalists"""""" join in is just insanity. Zero pride in attempting to analyze football just engagement farming but I guess that's how you use the algorithms lol.

I haven't seen ROD this reactionary since week 18.....

Everybody's true colors are shining through now.

Please don't ever compare Ramsey to Marcus Peter's ever again.
Ramsey tackles. And hard. And is asked to do everything.

Huge difference.

Yall talking about "Revis island" too.
Do you see ANY corner in the league currently who has slowed down Chase or Diggs by themselves ???

I fucking haven't.

Good God some of you love the taste of hate..

Yeah I blame the defensive strategy more than I blame Ramsey

I agree with some people - put Ramsey on an island with the number 2 receiver and double up on the number 1 receiver

And get Rapp out of the game against passing teams.

He is only good against a SF type team

I, as much as any Rams fan HOPE he'll start playing at a very high level. It'll be interesting to watch and see. I feel like the Falcons game is a great opportunity for him to put in a great game.
