I got to be honest here.
Reading through the last few pages, I had No Idea there were so many degenerate low-life losers on ROD.

Don't get me wrong. I am not naive. I am familiar with @Loyal. But So Many of You Guys. Wow!

Makes me realize just how much ...

Reading a book and watching a play to not fall under wasting time. You get a lot out of that. Movies and TV ?? Meh, not so much. Kinda get programed too.
We all spend too much time on the internet. Every single one of us.
I can spend a weekend on the couch watching TV with my lap top there too. Giant waste of time, indulgent.
But the days where I get off my ass and go out in the garage and work on my GTO, build something or even do the yard work I have been putting off I feel so much better. And actually have a good time once I start doing it.
I don't play video games for a reason, I would get hooked on them and spend all this time on a skill that means nothing, takes from you and gives nothing back.
I have seen these losers who play video games so much they hurt theit backs and shoulders and miss work !
Things like golf, you do spend a lot of time and a skill that does not mean anything. But, walking for 10 holes out in nature is good for you.
I do watch every single Rams play. Its now in my DNA. Pretty much given up on MLB and the rigged NBA. Only so many hours in the day.

Hobbies are hobbies, but you do know that you can actually get paid for doing video games, that you can play on teams, much like sports? My eleven-year-old nephew plays a lot of first-person shooter (FPS, for your clarification; I know you don't like acronyms) games (FortNite, mostly; his dad - my younger brother - won't buy him Call of Duty/Battlefront for obvious reasons), and he's absurdly talented at them; he's in a group that not even his dad is good enough to join, and he was a very talented FPS player himself in his heyday. It's a skill that might mean nothing to you, but my nephew does it because he enjoys it, and sometimes, that's all you need. Is that really a waste of time? Would you really call an eleven-year-old a loser for doing something that he finds fun?

Me? I write fiction for both monetary purposes (although nothing is going to me; every cent of every original story I write is going to a different charity) and fun, but I also write fanfiction (basically, stories based off of books, TV shows, movies, video games, etc.) online as well, which can't be sold, which is only available because every person who writes it does it for fun. Is writing fanfiction a waste of time as well?

If someone's having fun with something positive, it's not a waste of time. Fate knows there's plenty of misery out in the world, so why should people not focus on something they find enjoyable? It may not seem that way to you, but if they're having fun in a hobby that's not hurting them or anyone else, why should anyone judge?

Now we know. This explains a lot.
Made of bunch of my own stains, been there, done that.
I am 60, stopped when I was 24 because its not good for you.
When I was 55 I did it one night after a funeral and about twice since then.
Better off not smoking or drinking. Besides, weed is almost as big of a waste of time as video games.
Get nothing accomplished, lighting time on fire. And time is the most important thing there is.
You haven’t fully experienced the depths of Dark Side of the Moon/Floyd or Avalon/Roxy (among many other albums) without the assistance of ganga.

I will say that I never got in serious trouble when I was high. All the serious shit happened when I was drunk.
Back in the day when smoking was the preferred method of self medicating, we used to refer to drinkers existence as Liquid Limbo Land. My wife likes to claim, "on Super Bowl Sunday no stoner ever beat the shit out of his wife. Those women are being beat up by drunks".

Back when I first smoked weed we were listening to Dark Side of the Moon. I smoked weed pretty heavily from 17 to 24, listened to much of the great music from the era.
But I quit for good reasons. Still grew some outdoor grows on the side. Tons of work, takes up your life. Had a indoor deal going on. It was really a thing around here in the 2000s up until 2015 ish or so. Economy went down, prices dropped and the numbers did not work and it was not worth the risk.
Then it got made 'legal" and the priced dropped more. To ridiculous levels levels and the "shops" still charged the people the same. Became a scam. People started moving up here just to grow. Killed a lot of wildlife with fishhooks on strings and poison. A lot o them are gone and I am happy about it.
I grew on the side to supplement my income. But since I quit I make way more money with my job legally than I ever did working/growing together. The way I see it, I was blessed for doing the right thing. And I do not have to worry about some rips hitting my house while I am gone and the wife is at home either.
IMO, heavy use of weed holds you back. Everything in moderation as they say..

Soooooooooooo.........youre saying its just a personal thing.
I agree.
Outside of that its weird judgyism.
I don't disagree with a lot of it but saying something like books and plays are not wasting time (and not programming) while tv and movies are.....yeah, ok.
I enjoy reading psych and medical books. Im not a shrink or a doctor. The book Im reading now is Explorations In Cognitive Dissonance.
Not being a shrink and reading that....is that a waste of time? Yes and no.
That is the answer to a lot of this stuff.
Learning to play an instrument as a discipline can be seen as productive and not a waste of time. However, if you never play gigs or record music, does that means it was a waste of time?
Ive started trying to do some painting.
I have no delusions about selling paintings or being a professional artist, so, is that a waste of time?
You get my point I assume.
fearsome, you are one of the best posters here IMO. I kinda have this list, OK, OK judgy I guess !
Everyone has hobbies and I have some expensive ones. I have always had a guitar and do not know how to play it. When I retire I plan on giving it a shot. Learning to play music is very good for your brain I believe.
Just not of fan of adults seriously into video games. Say its "weird judgyism", that fine , I get it.
At work there are these kids, well adults that live alone in little apartments and their only friends are these people they play video games with online. No idea how to just go up and talk to a girl.
Part of me would luv to play the computer games where you fly fighter jets, battleships ect. Just have to resist it. I have too many things to do in real life than light time on fire. We only have so much of it after all.

Well video gaming has become a billion dollar business. Not a waste of time if it makes someone happy. Some people make friends that way, make memories, make money if they are good and compete competitively or even go into the business of making them. There's so many things that can be considered a waste of time for others but I choose to say do what you want, it's your life so enjoy it how you want while you're here.

In quite a twist of irony, that would seem to be a compliment. Maybe your crew could come up with something more creative than "loser"?

So................. what are you trying to say........dieter ?
Imagine a group of young 19 year old kids sitting around a table playing cards. Playing cards and picking seed pods with needles out of huge bags of bud shake like we used to do. Getting blasted and playing 3 card guts.
Then some guy walks in and asked to have a hit of the "lettuce"
Yeah, we would laugh at him with the hand on the forehead making a "L".
Kids dieter.
Context. We were all dumb ass kids once.

What do you mean we were?
