I doubt the trade ever happens for two reasons, Matthew will be turning 38 next February, he wants to be paid like a top 5 QB and the Rams are most likely demanding a first round pick. The only way I see them not demanding a first round pick is if the other team has a player the Rams really want. Being that Matthew might have 1-2 more elite years left in him I don't see a team paying him like a top 5 QB. and giving up a premium draft pick / player also seems like a tall ask.

However, if this does go down and say a team like the Raiders or Giants pay the kings ransom. My overall opinion of Matthew would change. Being that he's on the tail end of his career, given that he is probably a major injury away from hanging it up. If he took the $$$ from the Raiders or the Giants it would show me that he's in it for the $$$ and not legacy. The Giants and Raiders are no closer than 2-3 seasons away from even making a playoff birth let alone a superbowl appearance. Sure weirder things have happened in the NFL but if I were a betting man, I wouldn't put my money on the Raiders or Giants even with Stafford. Too many missing pieces.

Here are some decent parameters of a Raiders trade. Let's assume that Stafford is worth pick #13.

Rams give: Stafford and #26 (1850 points on the trade chart)
Raiders give: #6, #73, and Meyer (1825 points + Meyer's value)
I'd be very happy with that but actually prob happier with Mayer's value in picks.

In this proposed trade, I'm assigning 5th or 6th round value to him. You're rather have that than Mayer?
I would have expected him to have closer to 4th round value but perhaps that's wishful thinking.

And given resources already spent on similar TEs on our depth chart, I maybe would want to have the draft capital instead.

Guess it depends on what Rams thought of him coming out... I can see him as the spiritual successor to Higs but not a guy the offense runs through (of which, I think there's a few that have that possibility in this draft with the added control of years on contract)

He's consistently been on it. 1st round is gonna be nutty cause it's so week, I wonder if we'll see less trades and teams just letting the 1st round fall to them and their needs.
He's a nice mix of connections around the NFL and a good eye on his own merit. I also like that he sees what I see with this draft up top. Teams up there this year that would love a call to move up. Complete opposite of last year's draft up high, but good depth.

Your opinion may vary, haha. That's fine with me. It's not like I don't want the Rams to win every game they play, I just didn't see anything approaching a consistent offense last year... Or really since 2021. Cheers.:clinkingbeer:
They were 13 yards away from hosting an NFC Championship game....

This is all so damn stupid. It's like the Rams feel like they have to create drama every year since they moved back to LA. Must be a "Hollywood" thing. Regardless, absolutely nothing good can come from any of this bullshit.

I honestly don't think I care at this point. I also don't think the Rams are a SB WITH Stafford next season, and I believe the weather was the main reason they were able to make that Eagles game so close. The Eagles are just a far better team IMO.

Wake me up in September...
It was 13-10 at halftime before the weather kicked in.

So we still had a chance to win that game even if the weather stayed the same.

I completely disagree with your take.

Yep. Rams knew they were in that game and the weather didn't have as much to do with that fact as the players themselves.

Yeah, I am guessing one of our first 2 picks, regardless where they are picking and regardless of whether Stafford stays, will be a reach for a QB.

Dart
Slough
McCord
Howard
Ewer

One of the above will likley be a Ram. Take a swing this year and if needed another next year.
The more I think about it, the more I think McVay likes Ewers. I can't say why exactly, but seems like a McVay type of guy. I would not be surprised at all if they took him. I just wonder what round that would need to be in.

Not sure what happens if he's not traded and Rams and Staff cant come to agreement on contract upgrade
If Stafford isn't traded and won't take a deal, he's got three options: 1) play, 2) hold out, or 3) retire.

The first seems least likely because the Rams final offer should be better than playing our his existing contract (theoretically he could "quiet quit" like Moss did in his last season with Raiders, this would force a firesale trade in 2026, but that doesn't seem like him).

The second is most likely. He could make it messy probably force the Rams to grant him a pay bump for 2025 and FA status in 2026.

The last is possible, but it doesn't make much sense to retire when you are near prime AND borderline HOF. Also he's rumored to hope to play 3+ more years.

For shits & giggles, what would YOU want to do if we were to acquire the 6th pick?

For me, I'd love to trade down for more picks in this class. If someone was making a big trade up, a 1st next year would be great. Getting a 2nd rounder in a trade down would seem like a priority.

Outside of that, if we stayed put and took a guy I see a few intriguing possibilities:
Do we get nasty up front and take Mason Graham?
Do we get that big fast WR McVay has wanted since nearly signing Evans in McMillian?
Do we draft an OT to fill in for AJ or Big Rob in Will Campbell?
Do we take the best lock down corner in Will Johnson?
Do we take a TE weapon in Warren?
Or does McVay say fuck it and draft Jeanty? :sneaky:

Honestly, they all make us better, but, I think we should address offense because we struggled there for many games.

I find it harder and harder to go thru pages and pages with really no new info. I ask that when this is finally over that the admins force a new thread on the new RAMS and Stafford contract. Cause I believe that he stays a Ram and will be around 55 per year.

Yeah, I completely understand the options and agree with everything you're saying, I'm just trying to envision how that would all play out.
Since its gone this far I imagine the gap between the 2 is virtually insurmountable and if neither side wants to cave in it could get ugly
