I still think he’d be the Rams best corner. If Lake stayed at the Star position Ramsey can just focus on playing outside corner or better yet slot.

I guess the biggest reason I like the idea is I keep picturing him tackling Barkley and maybe terrorizing tight ends. Those were weak areas for the Rams. I keep having nightmares of freakin Jonny Smith running free behind the D-line and Barkley breaking long runs.

I also think Ramsey brings a bit of attitude to the DB group that meshes with what Verse does up front.
If they don't have to give up much draft capital, I am all for it.

A year or two of Ramsey playing close to the LOS could ease the transition of guys like Dolac and Paul too.
Full agreement here. He's clearly not the dominant player he once was but on the Rams I see him making a huge difference.

Question though on positions. What's the difference between star and slot? I thought Lake was handling slot duties most of the time?

The greater amount of Ramsey’s contract the Rams take on the lesser the draft capitol the Dolphins will receive.

I thought that was Durant. I always thought the Star was a hybrid position. Sort of like Linebacker/safety. With Shula’s defense it was harder to tell. Sometimes Lake would be on the field and Curl would be playing a SS role on run downs. Then other times they’d have two inside linebackers with Lake still on the field. So, maybe they don’t play a set slot corner roll.

I do recall Troy Hill used to play the Star and we busted on him for screwing up. I think it’s a tough assignment and Lake is a more cerebral player and has handled it better than Ramsey and Hill.

IMO Durant is better on the outside then in the slot the 2 starters should be Witherspoon and Durant even Shula said that he was better on the outside that’s y they took him off star

No?

Ok peace out.

Be back next week :bird:
It’s been said June 1st is the date.Pretty easy to figure out.Why SO hostile ?

I’ve said from the start it’s not going to happen. If it does happen it’s a good thing. The Rams know Jalen as good as any team & he was a part of The Rams winning a Superbowl.

I would be shocked if we give too much beyond a late round pick considering what the Dolphins gave us when he was possibly at his peak

I don’t know what this means.

But, don’t tell me. I want to try to figure it out on my own.

During the SB run I just thought he let the moment get to him. Now he has lost a step but, would really improve our back end. Probably move our D into top 5.
He lost his makeup speed a while back, right around that title run with us and probably before. And we saw it vs the really tough draws where he had guys he couldn't equalize with by a placed hand or reroute. Real juice at wideout requires a true CB1 and he simply is not that and has not been that for some time.

If we were to add him for example I wouldn't play him outside the hash. I'd stick him in the slot and let him neutralize with his physicality and instincts, and have him supplement the run defense.

But outside the hash... Even in our secondary we probably have better matchup options for a top wideout. And we're missing a true CB1. Not saying he can't be a boundary corner and benefit from less space options, but Witherspoon down the stretch did that for us at what is probably about equal to what Ramsey would give us. As to the field side I don't consider Ramsey to be our best option, I'd opt for Durant unless the WR is oversized.

And that's the problem with Ramsey. He's overpaid for what he is. He'd be a great piece to stick in the slot, or on a bigger wideout like Harrison for example when we play the Cards. But he is limited. Dude is not the eraser he used to be.

He would INSTANTLY upgrade our run defense especially outside the tackle runs

Quentin Lake shares his thoughts on the Rams potentially trading for Jalen Ramsey

No team has been linked to Jalen Ramsey more than the Los Angeles Rams this offseason. They’ve made their interest in the Miami Dolphins cornerback clear and reports suggest they’re a logical landing spot, especially with Ramsey seeking to join a contender.

The Dolphins are currently looking for a trade partner and though one hasn’t emerged yet, it’s largely because of Ramsey’s contract; Miami would benefit greatly financially by waiting to move him until after June 1.

Quentin Lake has effectively taken Ramsey’s place at the “star” position in the Rams’ secondary, covering the slot and moving around to find the best matchup defensively. As one of the leaders on defense, Lake would love to see the Rams bring back Ramsey.

“That would be – we would be a tough team, especially a tough defense to beat,” Lake said on NFL Network. “He knows the system, he’s familiar with the organization. Jalen is a God-given talent. Not only is he smart, he’s been in the league a long time playing at such a high level. Anytime you get to bring a guy like that back, he’s only going to add value. He is a star and anybody that you ask, he’s such an amazing player.”

Ramsey and Lake were both with the Rams in 2022, but Lake was limited to just nine games due to injury as a rookie that year. He played only 63 snaps on defense, so he and Ramsey weren’t on the field much together.

Still, he thinks highly of Ramsey, believing he’ll be enshrined in Canton at some point down the line.

“I truly believe he’ll be a Hall of Famer one day, too, just because of not only what he’s done on the field, but you look at how consistent he’s done it year in and year out,” Lake said. “I’ve seen the rumors, I’ve heard the rumors. I don’t necessarily know what’s going to happen but I hope – anytime you’ve got a guy like that that can add value to your team, especially with the guys we have already, that’s huge. Hopefully things shake out. Whatever may happen, I know guys are trying to pull strings and stuff like that, but we’ll see – hopefully in a couple weeks, or whenever it happens.”

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, “nothing is imminent” with regards to a trade involving Ramsey. That could change once the calendar flips to June 1 when the dead cap charge for Miami drops significantly but a trade is unlikely to happen before then.

If the Rams were to acquire Ramsey, they could deploy him at outside cornerback or in the slot. If he plays outside, it’ll take away snaps from either Ahkello Witherspoon or Darious Williams. If he returns to the slot, Lake could move back to a more traditional safety role.

Either way, Ramsey would give the Rams another playmaker in the secondary.
