While they've made solid progress retooling their roster around quarterback Matthew Stafford and a budding offensive core, there’s still a glaring need at cornerback.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton laid it out clearly in his recent story where he picked one move every team should make this offseason. For the Rams, his call was straightforward: trade for Miami Dolphins All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. And it’s not just an opinion, it’s a move that might already be brewing behind the scenes.

The Rams need a boost at cornerback. In 2024, Cobie Durant had a solid showing in 15 games (14 starts), allowing a 71.2 passer rating in coverage. Still, Los Angeles can find an upgrade over 32-year-old Darious Williams, who allowed a 101.7 passer rating in coverage last year. Having played with the Rams between 2019 and 2022, Ramsey is familiar with the coaching staff, and he's still a high-level starter.

Sean McVay knows it, confirming the Rams are interested in acquiring Ramsey.
When asked by SiriusXM’s Adam Schein whether the team was considering a reunion with the Dolphins star, McVay didn’t shy away: “Those conversations are ongoing.” Translation? The wheels may already be in motion.

Ramsey’s fit makes too much sense. He’s not just a former All-Pro, he’s their former All-Pro. His prior stint in L.A. from 2019 to 2022 helped anchor a Super Bowl-winning defense. He knows the system, the staff, and, most of all, the standard.

I’m less worried about giving up a R4/R5 pick than I am about the cap hit. I want the Rams to have some cap space to maneuver around as needed. I’m lazy. Can someone lay out the cap hit this year and overall cap hit that would come with a post June 1 trade?

If we were to add him for example I wouldn't play him outside the hash. I'd stick him in the slot and let him neutralize with his physicality and instincts, and have him supplement the run defense.

Yes Ramsey would be better at the slot, but Lake can't play outside cb
so I think we would have no choice than to put Ramsey outside.
I have a hard time believing he wouldn't be a upgrade over Witherspoon.
Spoon is 30 so no spring chicken.
Even if Spoon and Ramsey were coverage equals, Spoon is no where near as
good at busting up screens and stopping RB's in their tracks. JMO

Ramsey in '25 is due approx 21 mil guaranteed with 2-3 mill of escalators in his deal.
He's under contract from '26-'28 at roughly 25 mill per, none of which is guaranteed
Miami takes a 29 mill+ cap hit once he's traded June 1 or later, 10.7 in '25 and 18.4 in '26
No way Miami is going to eat 9 mill of that '25 pay unless they were getting incredible compensation, say a 1st round pick
The less Miami has to eat, the more fair the compensation

Agreed, not really sure what others are seeing. He was rated 39th among CB's in the NFL last year. He's not worth what Miami is paying him and everyone knows it which is why no one took the bait and why he'll be cut next month. He'll probably get a vet minimum or some desperate team will overpay for him. I don't expect the Rams to overpay for a player they know very well.

Ramsey's cap hit will total over 100 million the next 4 years if someone picks up his contract. I'm not seeing anyone willing to take that on. And giving up draft capital with that. Miami might have to absorb a portion of that. And maybe accept a late day 3 pick too.
