Apparently, the $12million signing bonus Seattle paid Kupp somehow offset some of what the Rams were due to pay Kupp. I'm still trying to see how or if that affected our cap or if it was just money in the organization's pockets.
No money to us, for us it's just an accounting thing it lowered his dead cap hit for us by that amount.

Who writes up this stuff? I stopped at "Ramsey dominated in the Rams' secondary from 2019 to '22 before he left the team in free agency. He made three Pro Bowls and was selected to the NFL's All-Pro First Team in both '20 and '21." - Karl Rasmussen.

Ramsey was traded for a 3rd round pick and TE Hunter Long.

People actually earn a salary for this?! Karl you fucking suck at your Sports Illustrated "job". I don't have social media or I would call this person out. However, I doubt it would have any affect regardless. Dumb and Dumber effect.

This is all I can find. I think I had seen where the cap hit would have been around $25-26 mil and this took it down to 22?

Pastoors confirmed that the $12 million signing bonus that came with Kupp's contract he signed with the Seahawks offset the Rams owing him that in 2025. However, by being released, the remaining money owed to him on his contract prorates to 2025, which means the Rams will, in total, occur a dead money charge of around $22 million this year.
Kupp will be off the salary books next year.
Kupp was released with a June 1 designation so the cap hit was spread between ‘25 & ‘26
Seattle signed him as a Fa so there wouldn’t be any impact to the Rams

Ramsey on the other hand just signed a monster 3 year extension that hasn’t even hit yet which makes cutting him nearly impossible

Edit- Rams pulled back on the June 1 designation and took the entire hit so he’s off the books in ‘26

As for the comment at Kupp’s signing bonus, I believe the comment pertained to Kupp himself. That by getting the 12 mill signing bonus, he would recoup some of the money he lost
He was due to make like 25 mill from the Rams iirc. And his AAV on the Seahawks deal is only 15 mill

Sports Illustrated has been shit for a long time. And as a result their traffic has been shit for a long time. That's not gonna change with their current writers.

Thing that sucks is that they'll prob be middle of the pack this year unless injury strikes.
Probably. But I feel that middle of the pack is the high end for them. There's a decent chance they could really suck especially given their schedule.

And also them being any good at all is contingent on Penix being a good QB. That's no given.

It would be great to have a high #1, and a shot at a top-QB prospect but I don't think it would 'suck' to have a mid-#1 plus a late #1 in 2026.

The Rams have had just one first round draft choice in a decade ... and, that guy was a Defensive ROY.

How cool would it be to have a shot at a top-3 Cornerback, Wide Receiver or Offensive Tackle; plus a top-5 CB, WR or OT. A chance to fill two potential 2026 Needs at impact positions, with top-tier prospects.

I'm thinking the floor for them is 6 wins and the ceiling is 9 wins. Last year 6 wins was good for the 11th pick. 9 wins was good for the 17th pick. I'm guessing they will be somewhere in that range. I'd say if Stafford would commit to sticking around a couple more years just use the picks to fill immediate needs. Like a tackle and a corner. Could find a cornerstone tackle and lock down corner.

That sounds about right in terms of wins.

We could even flip picks for later years too.

Crazy thing is that if they cant move him, they might opt for the Myles Garrett method. Throw some more money at him to make him realize "he didnt really want to leave, he just wants to play for a team committed to paying him to winning"
Seems they feel the bridge has burned.

OR... McVay is saying to Miami that they are gonna have to do a lot better than
what has been discussed or floated.

I hope I just made our "mind cup" half full, again.:laugh1:

Ramsey is a "me" guy whose comments sabotaged the Rams' efforts to trade him a couple of years ago. He came out and basically said he wanted to play for the Dolphins, so the Rams had to settle for a third-round pick and Hunter Long (TE) in exchange. The Rams gave up two #1s and a #4 for Ramsey four years before that.

Can he help the Rams THIS season--get them to the Super Bowl? I don't know, but he's not a long-term solution. Couldn't the Rams spend that money in a better way, assuming they will have to pay at least some of his salary? (He has $21M remaining to be paid in 2025, and the Rams would have to pay some of that, most likely.)

Is he better than the Rams current CBs? Let's assume yes. But I think the Rams CBs are better than advertised, so it's not a huge gap. Besides, the Rams probably have the best pass rush in the NFL, so they don't need the best CBs. As others have clearly said, the Rams biggest weakness last season was at run defense, and they spent money and assets there to pick up Poona Ford,

Will Ramsey return the favor and say he wants to play for the Rams and sabotage the Dolphins efforts to find the highest bidder?

As for me, I would "trade" for Ramsey if the Dolphins picked up at least $15M of his salary and they only wanted a 6th round pick, but I can understand why some people might think he was worth a 3rd rounder. A first rounder or second rounder would be robbery.

LMFAO !! Are you FREAKING KIDDING??? I’ll agree with what you SAID, but his worth & what THE RAMS would trade for him.

There is more to it as well, but I think you hit all those reasons until U fell off the Deep End!!

Mcvay said today actually his feelings & where The Rams are at with this guy. I think they thought about it,but actually have to think about extending some of The Rams CB’s on the roster. Such as I’ll just say all the CB Group.

Just curious, do you have a sense for what's going on at SI? Used to be a great weekly magazine with terrific writers.

Now I tend to see poorly written stuff that looks like it could be spit out by AI. And the "writers" often seem to be no-names who are fresh out of school.

Is SI pretty close to dead....?

Don't laugh too hard--you'll give yourself a heart attack.

Kidding you about what? Maybe you didn't have enough ink left in your pen to explain, which is fine. You imply that it was at the end of my post where I said, "As for me, I would "trade" for Ramsey if the Dolphins picked up at least $15M of his salary and they only wanted a 6th round pick, but I can understand why some people might think he was worth a 3rd rounder. A first rounder or second rounder would be robbery." I stand by that, and I don't see what's so funny or how I "fell off the deep end" about it.

I guess that means you think the Rams are going to pony up a much higher pick, such as the second first-rounder the Rams are going to have next season. They might do that, but I wouldn't do it, and I doubt that the Rams would be that dumb. The Fins gave the Rams a third-rounder two years ago, so no way the Rams give them a first or second rounder back.

McVay said nothing clear or concrete about acquiring Ramsey today--despite being egged on by the reporter. "Obviously, we love Jalen--we know Jalen intimately. There would be some things that we would be able to do if that was going to be a direction that we went. We certainly haven't closed the door on that, but there hasn't been a whole lot of dialog as of late in regards to some of the communications, but we'll see if that changes..."

In other words, even though most of the media is cheering this on, McVay seems to doubt it. Of course, he could be feigning a lack of interest in order to get a better deal from the Fins.

He didn't say anything about extending the CBs on the current roster--which you mentioned, but he did make a point to mention that Emmanuel Forbes Jr. --the former #1 the Rams got on waivers from Washington near the end of 2024--had made a play in practice today.
