I agree the Ramsey haul wasn't great. And I agree there is some validity to just focusing on return rather than what a player does with their new team.

Staying with your analysis, how do you factor in the intangibles the Rams clearly prioritize? They wanted to do right by the player. Whit just said the Rams have a rep for taking care of players that earn it. Now, they've developed a rep for doing right by players who they're trading away. I believe Colin recently said that the Rams have developed a rep as possibly the top destination for players.

If accepting a pathetic haul is part of building the reputation of being a top players destination, is it worth it?

No matter how you slice it, the Rams are doing something right that nearly every other franchise struggles with (including the Rams pre-McVay), they are able to rebuild the roster quickly while remaining a top tier team. 2023 marked the beginning of the THIRD roster overhaul since McVay got here.
ONE losing season.

Players wanting to come play for the Rams has to factor in even though there are other reasons for the Rams recent successes.

The Rams are proving they are multi-dimensional when it comes to acquiring talent. They have traded, drafted, paid top players, and unearthed enough day 3/UDFAs to make other FOs look clueless.

One thing kinda' intrigues me is everyone, pretty much without exception, thinks Reeder sucks, and yet Staley took him with him to the renters, and Raheem/Shula brought him back to the Rams.

Why is that? Incredible locker room guy, helps call signals/alignment, has pics... what?

There always has to be a whipping boy, it seems. People can’t forget the lowlights but have a short memory of the highlights.
One only needs to go back and watch clips of 2021 and there is plenty of Reeder plays. He did his part to bring this team a title.

Now, as a seasoned vet who has “been there”, he still has value.

Jourdan was on the Heed the Call podcast on Wednesday talking a little bit about the trade. She mentioned 3 things about it.
1. Rams weren't going to pay Jones. (obviously, but kind of confirms Jones's story that there wasn't any contract discussions)
2. His knee injury set him back conditioning wise.
3. They're big on Speights, especially towards the back half of the season.

Fisher was experienced but expendable so he was hired to facilitate the move, set up camp and buy time to hire a visionary (a la McVay)to build a true competitor.

That would be nice. Due to McVay's reaction to the question of who is the starter a few days back, though, I figure they will start Reeder even if it's a ceremonial thing with him giving way to Speights as a rotation. And the Detroit opener will probably serve as one of those games that leads to positional shuffling. Our staff generally uses games like that very positively to set the course they need to set from there.

It's a darn good thing McVay arrived because I doubt that AD would have stayed with the Rams if Fisher had been allowed to continue his regime of less than mediocrity.
