Free agency is always a place where you vastly over pay a guy. It's usually wise to stay away. That being said without a first round pick the Rams have to be active in free agency and add some offensive pieces, secondary pieces, and defensive depth.

And it's always been "just a hunch" and the picture doesn't really form for years in most cases.

But, it's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

No doubt. He got screwed by Sam Bradford not being able to stay on the field, and then when Sam neared FA the dude has to deal with his QB refusing to meet in the middle on salary, which is something I personally won't forgive him for.

But he also made a crucial mistake building the OL around Jake Long, he signed the guy 2 years after the "good" version expired and brought in an injury-prone player with big salary. He basically screwed up the OL build about as bad as you can, and then elected late in his tenure to invest draft capital. Just a bad deal all around.

And then you have the windows on players. Both CBs hitting FA, more key players hitting FA again this year, and the worst thing is they signed the guy who has yet to produce the way they thought he would in Tavon.

It's a damn mess. But strangely enough, the Rams have two of the hardest pieces to find in an interior pass rusher and a QB. Those two guys and Gurley are going to make this job very attractive if Stan wises up.

The defense hasn't been nearly as productive as they had been, but heck our offense isn't doing the defense any favors either. Turnovers decide games and clearly that's what the numbers are showing us. Hard to believe that there's only 4 more weeks left. Maybe the Rams can get these numbers heading back towards 0 and give us some positives going into the off-season.

Agreed. Our center needs some lead in his pants, and yet I don't even think that would help. He may make the right line calls, but he always seems to create either a stalemate or get knocked back into the backfield. Although he does have the ability to get down field and recover fumbles well.

Great Thread/Post Dave!

I grew up in Pearl City, Hawaii. Pearl Harbor basically connects to Pearl City. I used to go to the Memorial all of the time... Back then (1970s), I could still see oil rising up from the Arizona. It made a lasting impression on me. I can still picture everything in my mind like I was standing there right now. December 7th is one of those dates that I know and remember almost like my date of birth.


I read a story this week about one of the survivors from the Arizona who passed away this year. He was 98 years old. His twin brother was on the ship with him when it was attacked and he was killed while trying to shoot down the Japanese planes. The surviving twin had always wanted to be reunited with his brother.... so his family took his ashes back out to Pearl Harbor today, and they are putting his ashes (with a driver's help I assume) inside of the gun turret that his brother was firing when he was killed. So awesome!

Punter Johnny Hekker, probably heading to another Pro Bowl, has been named the Rams' Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his philanthropic efforts. Hekker will receive a $50,000 donation and send it to The Grace Network, which combats human trafficking. An additional $50,000 will be used to fund Character Playbook in Los Angeles, which "trains students on how to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships during their critical middle school years." In June, Hekker became the LA rep for Waterboys, which was founded by Chris Long to provide clean water around the world. - per ESPN

An imaginative OC will be able to utilize our TEs. Looking forward to Higbee's play next year with a full offseason with Goff as #1 QB. I've made the case for several seasons that getting a stud FA Center will help the team a lot and Goff significantly. Goff will make the WRs better as his confidence grows, the OLine improves, and the play calling gets better. Anguan Boldin would have been an interesting add to this team to coach up the rookies. Looking forward to Pharoh and Spruce getting going next year but won't be surprised if they grab a big WR in the draft to pair with Goff or a reliable FA to replace Britt or Quick.

This regime is pretty good at developing players in the secondary. I'd sign one vet OL to solidify the line, and try to get the best WR on the market. Going into the draft things would not look too bad, reload the defense is fine provided they get a center somewhere mid-rounds which is where you get good value at that position.

What would be awesome, just from historical perspective, is if it's Raiders vs Pats in the AFC champ and Lions vs Cowboys in the NFC champ and the Raiders and Lions both won. Raiders get revenge for the tuck rule bullshit that started the whole Patriots run plus was a partial factor in ruining the Rams franchise for the next 15 years if you think about it. And the Lions never could beat the Cowboys in their Barry Sanders days. Would be a nice Super Bowl I think just because I hate the Cowboys and Pats.

I think it comes down to lack of identity 43. Fish has been quoted on saying so many times that they're a power run offense, but they never are. He'll say things like "that's who we are" in relation to the run game, but they never really have been that team who can do even that one thing well on offense. Last year was the closest thing to it with Gurley making things happen, but we see this year it's back to the same old deal.

We don't have an offensive identity.

Now we have Goff taking over, which is great, it's about time and these games and snaps are critical to him growing into the QB we expect him to become. But even with him in the backfield what is our identity? The Rams staff is all over the map. They'd probably tell you they're a run team but they can't run it. And their run/pass ratio over Fisher's five years isn't exactly indicative of the fact they're a run team either. It's madness.

Only hope for Fish is to bring in a strong OC who can put those things in place. I pray Fish realizes that.

The answer is Ron Brown. Most of you got it right. Apparently Willy Brown fooled no one.

Point is they have a ton of downtime in between meetings and they aren't always included in those meetings IE coaches meetings, different walk thru's with different disciplines etc.
They basically work from 6am to 4pm. With breaks throughout the day. Pretty normal workday, only difference is they play a game on Sunday.

Conclusion if they're on social media they're reading about themselves or their team.

Mediocre, not bad. A lot of the lack of hits/sacks on Brady is from scheming - they're very good at taking away any one individual performer, and they're very good at getting the ball out fast. Much of the rest of it is Brady himself - it's hard to overstate how spending 17 years in the same offensive system lets you know what's going to happen before a play is run, meaning you shave precious seconds off the time you're holding the ball in the pocket.

Brown was terrible in 2015.
Beaten like a drum in every phase.
He seemed to improve at least run blocking during the preseason but his pass blocking was a total liability. It made sense to start Saffold over him. Now, Saffold played poorly which was disappointing. Brown did play better last week and in other spots this year.
Best case is he develops along with Grob....not giving up hope with that. Havenstein, despite his zero sacks last year, had trouble with speed rushers. This year those rushers are getting home. If those three can develop into good starters the Rams O line are almost there.
