UK NFL Fans Twitter battle

There is currently a league table for UK based NFL fans Twitter accounts, our LA Rams UK Handle currently sits at 1,400 Followers whilst those detestable SeaChickens have 1,800 Followers.

Our aim is to pass Seattle before the start of the next season but in the short term there is a competition running for the highest number of new Followers each week.

If you are on Twitter please give us a Follow and help us climb the table

19-Handicap (Unofficial ROD Straight Pick'em 2017)

Comparative data for 2016 and 2017:

The scoring system was altered slightly in 2017. In 2016 you got half points for a tie so if the option was
Seahawks 20 or Cardinals 17 and it ended in a tie you got 10 for the Seahawks and 8.5 for the Cardinals. That made scoring percentages messy. Obviously it shouldn't be 100% or 85%. For 2017 you only got the differences between the tied scores so you would have scored 1.5 for the Seahawks and 0 for the Cardinals. There were 2 ties in 2016. Under 2017 rules the 2016 alternative leaderboard was this:
Week 17.PNG

In 2017 the alternative leaderboard looked like this:

Week 17 part 1.PNG

The maximum score in 2016 was 3902 which is effectively 2 X half-a-game lower than it should be because of the ties. On that basis the top scores are also 1 X half-a-game lower than they should be, (or .5496 X half-a-game lower if you want to go by season long scores).
The maximum score in 2017 was a much lower 3781, which is about half a point per game less than 2016. The scoring difference between a 4.5 point favourite and a 4.5 point underdog is 9 point in this game. You could either view 2017 as having about 14 fewer 4.5 point underdogs beating their 4.5 point favourites over the course of the 238 NFL games this pick'em covered or you could see it as there being more one-sided games/fewer very even games in 2017. Either way picking favourites in 2017 was a better strategy than in 2016.

The striking difference is the % change in the ROD Bookie scores. There are possibly 2 reasons for this. Firstly I did the opening Sportsbooks later this year - Friday and sometimes Saturday morning rather than Thursday nights. That would have highlighted the errors in the early ESPN line a bit more. Secondly I believe there were more errors in the ESPN lines this year. The Rams were an underdog in Week 1 because the line went up before Luck was confirmed to be out. In Week 17 the Rams started as 3.5 point favourites but started the game 6.5 point underdogs because of the starters being pulled. there were several other errors which made 2017 scoring a bit easier than 2016. Combined with improved performances by favourites, (which has generally resulted in better scoring by members) the scoring definitely improved in 2017.

I have 2015 and 2014 data if anyone wants it. Data in those years included the 18 Thursday games.

ESPN: 2018 NFL Draft Quarterback Class Preview

Rosen & Darnold remind me a little of Goff & Wentz.

Rosen's got the better throwing motion and he's real accurate. Darnold will need to work his mechanics like Wentz did, but he's the better athlete and sorta reminds me of Favre, dude's a gunslinger.

As a USC fan I am biased. I'd take Darnold first overall. I think he'll work his mechanics like Wentz did and speed up his release. But Rosen also didn't exactly play for a brilliant offensive staff, being under Mora couldn't have been fun.

IMO both are going to be very good pros, just feel like Darnold will be an elite player in the NFL.

I am a UCLA fan and i agree with this. I think both will be good starting caliber NFL QBs regardless. Darnold gets a slight edge for the reasons you provided above. Rosen is taking a lot of heat for not winning enough which I think is really unfair if you dive into UCLA as a team since he got there. Goff got the same treatment though coming out so its not really surprising.

Robert Woods played for the Bills last year and the Rams this year. Both had gone a long time without qualifying for the playoffs. Both have now made it back.

Woods and the Rams will host a playoff game at the L.A. Coliseum for the first time in nearly 40 years on Saturday night. During a visit to PFT PM, Woods discussed his first year with the team, why he chose the Rams, the importance of a loud crowd during the wild-card game against the Falcons, and plenty more.

The Thursday edition of PFT PM also includes discussion of a variety of NFL topics (regarding the Packers, Raiders, and Eagles), a lengthy Twitter-based question-and-answer session, and the long-awaited (not really) story behind “you’re better than that.”

As you know by now, we’re not better than that, or anything else. Hopefully, you’re not better than pressing play in the box below to hear everything that was said during the PFT PM podcast.

Cooper Kupp the best LT in football

Having a guy like Kupp is really fantastic for a team that play offense like the Rams do. If this was a typical passing/running game type of team he wouldn't be as valuable and would simply be a "sometimes go to possession slot guy", the type that on a 3rd and 6 catches a 7 yard pass. This isn't a passing game that has a #1 and #2 WR then a few guys straggling behind. This is more sophisticated and way more symbiotic.

This shows that he blocks for the run game, but he blocks downfield for other WR's too and does it well and we've seen it on replays.

He ain't pancaking guys but he keeps them away from the ball carrier.

He blocks like Stedman Bailey used to..........gets hands in your chest and pushes you away enough to get you out of the way. Not like Isaac Bruce who just laid a whack on a defender..........which is also fine.

MMQB: Who Will Win Super Bowl LII? Our NFL Playoff Predictions

Great formula....strong defense....pretty good O-line....and the kid can run a lil bit.

I think we dropped a couple picks that Keenum tried to give us too....

Had we done a lil more offensively...just get a lead instead of being 7-7 going into the 4th....we coulda seen what Keenum really is...limited.

Exactly. Vikes are all about the defense, and they're used to seeing low scoring games that are in their control. Hang points on them and as you say we'll see what Case is.

Their defense is good enough to get them all the way. Only real threat to them are the Saints and Rams, both of whom have the pieces to do the above.

Superbowl teams seeding since 1975

If you look at the graphic, they have the Rams as the winner of SB 36... as God intended!

Minus the Patriots cheating (Cheatriots), the Rams would have been the winner. Never mind that the 5 yard receiver holding rule was born out of Superbowl 36. Matt Walsh turned over tapes that showed the Patriots had videoed the Rams practices for the SB. Goodell claims the tapes showed nothing so he destroyed them. That is utter BS. The commissioner could never admit that a team had cheated in a Super Bowl and overturn the outcome so he had to destroy the tapes and claim that nothing was there. Otherwise the NFL would have lost all credibility, although Goodell is starting to go down that road these days now.

How long will Mcvay be our Coach?

Buddy relax, a beast rookie TE is an oxymoron

Someone has to replace Sammy's 2 yd TD catches

I think McVay is here 15-17 years, retires/TV 2-3 years then returns and turns around another program and takes them on a 10+ year ride
While taking your advice;) I found this article....

Gerald Everett, TE, Los Angeles Rams

  1. 27dd440837edd8fbfca58f844d5b3d17_crop_exact.jpg

    Rick Scuteri/Associated Press
The Los Angeles Rams are flying high on offense with Sean McVay calling the plays and Jared Goff as the unit's triggerman. The group is also loaded with skill-position talent.

Although, one position remained underutilized. Tyler Higbee started all 16 games at tight end after the organization used its highest pick in the 2017 draft to select Gerald Everett. Higbee finished fifth on the squad with 25 receptions, while Everett managed 16.

Both can be on the field and add something different to the NFL's top-ranked scoring offense. Higbee is more of an in-line option, because he's bigger and more physical. Everett, meanwhile, has the potential to turn into McVay's Los Angeles version of Jordan Reed.

"Me and Tyler, we want to be that two-headed monster," Everett said this past summer, per ESPN.com's Alden Gonzalez. "... Just be a pick-your-poison type of deal and be an every-down tight end. Whoever gets plugged in, we know they're going to make plays."

Everett needed time to develop this season. He made mistakes, dropped passes and had to work on his blocking.

After early struggles, McVay should expand Everett's role next season to take full advantage of the tight end's athleticism. The 6'3", 245-pound target with 4.62 40-yard-dash speed is an instant mismatch lining up at numerous spots. His maturation should make the Rams offensive scheme even more deadly.

PFT's Wild Card Picks

Foolio always has his little out clause when he slams the Rams. “...if the Falcons can hold a fourth quarter lead.” I think he is possessed by the same Ram-hating demon that terrorizes the soul of Peter King and that chick on the good morning football show.
In a duh moment, doesn't every team that hold a fourth quarter lead win? He might as well say, "if the Falcons win, they will have won."
