I like the idea of trading Barron instead of just cutting him, but I don't see how you get a 3rd for Quinn, but only give up a 4th for Talib.
But again, I like the idea of trading over cutting.

TJohnson at $13mil? If he's willing to take that, sign him. Jenkins signed for $12mil two yrs ago.

I am of the thought that we now have a playoff roster. Why gamble by trying to save a few bucks while losing some of your top players in the process? Give Joyner and TJohnson their $$ (if they will take those deals you proposed) and lose some of the lesser players.

That is the route I prefer. Re-sign TJohnson AND draft a starting CB. Agree NRC would not return under those circumstances, especially when it is far more important to re-sign Joyner.

I've honestly always been happy for Phoenix and the Cards - I remember going to Ram games at Sun Devil stadium (where the support was horrible, to the point of being non-existent).
They went through some tough times, and now have a great stadium, and a competitive, watchable team.

I hope it is a free agency/trade offseason to fix Wade's D. Then the draft can be met without any pressure and the team can draft for future needs.

That said I work with carpenters and plumbers and electricians and factory workers and laborers of all walks of life who struggle with the exact same issues. Football may wreck a body, but so do a number of other jobs that don't leave people as well off. Use the shocks and brakes enough and they are going to wear out.

The San Francisco 49ers have 16 players at the moment due for unrestricted free agency on March 14, and few if any of them seem as unlikely to return as defensive end Aaron Lynch. It might seem odd from the outside looking in that a team in need of pass rush help would be willing to give up on a player like Lynch, who has a good amount of potential in that area, but after a season plagued by injuries coming off an offseason where he was overweight, Lynch seems to be on the outside looking in when it comes to which pending free agents the 49ers will re-sign.

So it's no surprise to see Lynch as the name that pops up next to the San Francisco 49ers in a feature posted by ESPN Wednesday that selects one player on each NFL team that could use a change of scenery. 49ers reporter Nick Wagoner wrote that it's time for Lynch, who is still just 24 years old, to find a new team, and that it could give him a spark towards reaching his potential.

"After four seasons in which Lynch's pass-rush ability and inability to stay in shape would alternately tantalize and frustrate the 49ers, it's time for the two sides to part ways," Wagoner wrote. "Lynch is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March after posting six or more sacks in his first two seasons and just 2.5 total over the past two years. Throughout his time in the Bay Area, Lynch often looked like the team's best edge rusher, but he was never able to put it all together and then struggled with injuries and weight issues toward the end. Perhaps an opportunity on a different team will help him get back on track. But for now, the Niners need to look outside the organization to bolster their outside pass rush."

Lynch was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2014 draft out of South Florida and over his first two seasons showed flashes of what made him such a highly-regarded prospect earlier in his career when he was viewed as one of the top defensive end prospects in the country coming out of high school. But after racking up 12.5 sacks over his first two seasons, Lynch played in just 14 games over the course of 2016 and 2017, due in part to injuries and a suspension for substance abuse that left him suspended for the start of the 2016 season.

Another team will surely give Lynch a chance if the 49ers decide not to re-sign him over the next few weeks. The talent is still there, and the need for pass rushers around the league will never go away. If he does re-sign with the 49ers, at the very least it will provide some depth in an area of need and give him one more chance to flip the switch and become the player he still could potentially become.

He has been mentioned here before but, I didn't know much about him. Started college going to Notre Dame but, missed Florida and transferred. Had to sit out a year. I read his weight fluctuates but, he got back in shape last year but, got hurt again. Has good size and that P for potential. Could be motivated at least against the Whiners. Not a fan of one year deals but, could give him two years with little cap out in year two. He has the size 6'5" and 270 Lbs with 34" arms or so Still only 24. I would see what he cost. Not my first choice but, Rams need more pressure.

I was a huge fan of him in college and when first entering the NFL. His inability to be on the field at this level isn't helpful to the Rams

That’s the whole point West Coast! They more than likely won’t be trading for a QB because they are pretty set on a QB but they would definitely trade up to pick somebody who fell from the teens and they think would be a difference maker in their scheme. It only takes one team to think this, and in recent years with the trades more common and less costly for the trader it could work out for us. I literally could see the Viqueens or Jets move up with us. I’d take another 3rd to drop 5-6 spots.

I’d love the Browns trade. Would be a dream scenario.

The Browns would be a good fit for Sam. Any team taking a future QB could be a good fit for that matter. Sam has experience to pass on and can fill in until the new guy is ready. BUT, if you were Sam would it be worth it to risk another knee surgery. He already made over 50 million. He doesn't live extravagantly from what I gather. How many more million is it worth to go through another surgery and rehab, when he is already loaded? Maybe he is an optimist.


I would hate Lauletta going to New England. Just like I hated seeing Garapolo being picked by them. He looks to have real potential. Hopefully someone beats them to him.

I really think the Rams could use an upgrade at back up QB. I would love it if the shored up their weaknesses in free agency and somehow ended up with a QB like Lauletta or White, or anyone other than Mannion. Get someone with a higher ceiling that could have trade potential down the road.

I read all our members mocks some very good some not so good.....but none of these mocks come close in their estimations of the high the cost of signing UFA Sully here in a few weeks. If a poor paying center like Kilgore can get 4 million a season with 7 million guaranteed then you will have to review all those mock that have Sully's contract coming in here far below market value.

I agree that estimates for Sullivan contract have been undervalued. I've been looking at 2.5 Million for each of two years. I might have even got to 3-3.5 Million a year. To my surprise OCs make a lot more money than I thought. Here is a link.

In Kyle Shanahan’s system of outside zone running, the center’s run blocking ability is absolutely vital to the team’s overall success. Kilgore was great at using his athleticism to seal off the Bears’ interior defenders to open up lanes for his running backs. In addition to the team’s highest run-blocking grade, Kilgore did not allow a pressure on the day and finished with an 85.3 pass-blocking grade.

Looks like Kilgore fits Shanahan's scheme. He had a poor grade for the year but, showed that he can work within the system and could have developed a good repore with Jimmy G. It should increase the price of resigning Sullivan. Gilmore is younger and I don't think he had the injury problems Sully has had. I think going 3.5 Million is a good deal for both sides on a two year deal. IIRC the Ravens are letting their OC go and I'm sure other teams would be interested. I was hoping this would be the easy resign.

What could happen if that many QBs go and then a few other need type players, is the Rams could be in a unique spot at #23.

As much as we discuss needs and our preferences to address them, picking a guy who your team sees as the absolute best player at his position is never a bad pick (if your right!). They end up being franchise players. See Gurley and Donald. We really didn't have a glaring need at either position when those guys were drafted.

Now if that franchise type player happens to be a position of need...

I think the correct business decision for the Eagles is to keep Nick Foles on the roster. They have a backup who just did the job in taking the team to a championship, why create another hole when you have a QB who runs to contact and might get hurt again.

I do think Peterson did a masterful job of utilizing Nick's strengths, but don't want to take things away from Nick here and as it pertains to Roseman's decision making that doesn't mean he can do the same with any QB at the backup position. Certainly not a rookie. That route could succeed but comes with a lot of unnecessary risk vice just letting Nick play out next season insulating the team against another injury to Wentz.

As to the market, Smith and Garoppolo were both flipped by beneficial organization decision making, i.e. to teams where things favored them having success, but regardless the market was sort of set at a round 2 pick by two consecutive deals not to mention the aborted deal between the Bungles and Browns (reportedly a round 2 and 3 pick). Eagles probably won't get more than that for a guy who needs a certain level of quality around him; it's not, after all, the first time that a backup level QB looked lights out in a Super Bowl with a great team around him.
