Think about it for a minute. Your name is Kyle Shanahan, or Sean McVay, are you going to work for a dude that is stuck in the Stone Age (to quote my very Millennial kids) or a HC like Jay Gruden who knows and understands the modern NFL offense?
Which job would be the most helpful to your career?
Guys, it is my contention that Jeff Fisher hired incompetent fools like himself because that was the only ones he could get.
His "reputation" definitely preceded him and made him a pariah to any up and coming offensive assistant.

Hue Jackson and John DeFilippo were both willing to interview with the Rams. Fisher passed them both over. Now, maybe both said no when Fisher told them that he wasn't giving up the keys to the offense, but that would just be another indictment of Fisher.

Regardless, it makes me feel bad for Steve McNair and Vince Young.

They did really well, despite starting out a slow. It took the O-Line a few games to get it's act together. Now, after a Full Season together, I can't wait to see how well they do in Year #2!!(y);):D

This is a guy who can play in any front, can do different things depending on what your defense needs. And he has that size and physicality that's hard to find. That is why I think the draft estimates having him going high are accurate. With a guy like him the demand side of things is larger than it is for a lot of the OLB types, as any team with a LB need has him sittin there on their board with good grades as a fit.

All that aside, though, I think if the Rams draft him he goes right into that spot at ILB on the strong side and shores up our $#itty run defense. And gives us a great duo for many years to come.

i think i would freak if the Rams got TE in the 1st & his VT teammate Tim Settle NT in the 3rd. Run defense would get crazy good. TE has the size & strength & skillset to have a high floor / high ceiling at both ILB and OLB, wherever Wade wants him. If he slides down & he's there, he's my pick. I like the other guys too @Riverumbbq, this is a great thread, but the tape I saw on TE showed me a lot of speed & shedding.

He had 9 punt returns for TD. He is a poormans Ike Bruce? He seems like more of what the Rams have in the WR room already. I don't see him taking Watkins spot. He may have to play in the slot. I read he has some trouble with press coverage and needs to build strength. He goes to a team that needs a punt returner and needs depth at WR. Interesting guy to follow and the son of former Angels CFer Gary Pettis.

As talented as he is, Todd Gurley was viewed as somewhat of a question mark entering the 2017 season. He posted one of the worst seasons in recent memory two years ago when he rushed for 885 yards on 278 carries – one fewer attempt than he had in 2017, when he rushed for 1,305 yards.

No one was calling him a bust, but some questioned whether he could return to a Pro Bowl level in Los Angeles. He silenced those few doubters by leading the league in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns.

His performance this past season established him as a top-level running back, erasing any concerns about his future. That being said, the Rams could still use an addition at the position this offseason.

Lance Dunbar didn’t pan out, Malcolm Brown is a restricted free agent and Tavon Austin – who played mostly at running back – isn’t likely to return in 2018. That leaves Gurley as the only quality back on the roster.

Sure, Justin Davis is still there, but he had trouble holding onto the football in 2017 and is unsure to even make the team next season. Brown should be back as a restricted free agent, but having a dynamic pass-catching back is something Sean McVay would certainly like.

Unfortunately, there won’t be many affordable options in free agency, but the Rams could look to the draft as a way to add a change-of-pace back. That doesn’t necessarily mean they should spend a third or even fourth-round pick on one, but with three sixth-round picks, there are a few guys who could make an impact.

With a deep crop of running backs in this year’s class, talented guys will be pushed down the board, simply because there are so many good players at the position.

Akrum Wadley out of Iowa would be a nice option, but he’s unlikely to last beyond the fifth round. That’d be a bit rich for the Rams, because of how low of a need running back is. If he were to slip to the sixth round, however, the Rams should pounce. The same goes for Nyheim Hines from N.C. State and John Kelly out of Tennessee.

Both can contribute as third-down backs and change-of-pace guys who can make big plays on offense, which is exactly what the Rams hoped Dunbar would be. Kelly is a bit on the smaller side, which will hurt his draft stock, but he’ll boost it at the combine when he runs and goes through the agility drills.

Drafting a running back isn’t a must by any means for the Rams, but unless Dunbar and Austin return, they could use a scat back to contribute in the passing game.

Yes, mental growth is not linear. It comes as a person assimilates & digests enough information to take positive steps forward with that info. One also requires the willingness to move forward as well as avoiding stagnating setbacks (e.g., injuries).

Obviously Goff is the QB. Mannion will be a free agent after this coming season, so the Rams do need to start thinking about a backup. If Allen isn't who McVay wants long term as a backup, I expect the Rams to draft a mid rounder that he likes to develop.

So not a huge priority position, but one I expect them to address this draft.
