Having Robinson is like having Woods. He's more vesatile and as he has shown he's got deceptive speed. In fact both he and Nacua have similar speed. He's a better route runner than Atwell and better at contested catches which makes him more valuable.

Both have a role on this team. If the game is close and the team needs to control the ball I'd rather see Robinson on the field because of his ability to block for both other WRs but in the run game as well. That is what makes Robinson a better choice overall.

Prior to getting injured vs the Ravens , Robinson had played more than Atwell in both the Browns and Cardinals games. I think they'll both share time, and the play time could fluctuate depending on the team/matchup.

I mentioned this before, I like Atwell but his catch radius might be too small. I blame Stafford and his terrible accuracy.

Tutu is a nice deep threat to stretch the field. And the PI's he can create. But Robinson offer more. Can block on run plays. And it seems Stafford has trust in him. I think they're better with Robinson as WR3 and Tutu as WR4.
Robinson is so good, I don't know how we got him knowing our cap limitations. I think Atwell has done really well this year, but if I had to choose between them, it would be Robinson.

Gonna have to split at this point but I think Robinson might be our 3rd. If Tutu cant burn them, then have to go up and get it with Robinson. Robinson has more overall ability than Tutu straight burn-em skills. I would start Tutu tonight, but use Robinson if needed.
It was interesting, Tutu got hurt on a routine play that he got run into just from his lack of size, then they run Robinson on a jet sweep and he runs through contact for a big play. Tutu is certainly willing but his physical stature limits what he can do whereas Robinson brings a little more physicality but not the top end speed

Demarcus all day. He’s a veteran that knows how to get separation. He understands the offense, is bigger than Tutu with a longer wing span. I think the offense is better with Robinson.

For all of Atwell’s speed you’d think he could get more separation than he does.

Add Allen Davis emerging really adds to the passing attack. They are both big targets over the middle for Stafford.

Higbee & Kyren are nice piece as well to help spread the field.
Getting Tutu Atwell back is only going to help the depth, especially with his speed. He is always a threat to get deep.

Robinson was kicking ass back in camp this year but he had to get in line behind Tutu and Jefferson because the Rams had invested round 2 picks in both those players. This is the way it works. But after they finally had enough of Jefferson and after Tutu underwhelmed then got hurt Robinson has resumed kicking ass with timely TDs and separation.

So I don't understand this continued thinking that Tutu is the WR3. It's late December. We're in a playoff chase. Tutu is looking at significantly lesser snaps than Robinson and rightly so. And this offseason Tutu will be replaced.

For tonight and the rest of this run we are making for playoff glory I am thankful we have a savvy wideout now who knows when to scramble for the QB, who has good size, and who can separate in key moments. That's a real nice combo for a WR3, only reason he will move on after the season is because he doesn't add the long speed this offense needs so badly.

Robinson and Kyren are very much similar to one another! I like the fight in them.

Maybe it doesn’t matter to designate one #3 and play them both? TuTu Atwell and Demarcus Robinson have each contributed, but differently.
What is a #1 receiver? A #2? A #3?

A #1?
The one who catches the most passes?
The X? Plays the single side?
A "True #1" is what scout will say about a big and fast guy -- like AJ Brown, Deebo, old school - Moss or Megatron -- ones who has
all the top traits.
Is the the guy who is usually the first read on most plays?
Can a team have a #1 that is not a star?
Can a slot receiver be a #1?

Sure. he catches the most passes on a given team, but that team has a cruddy passing attack.
I ask, did the Rams have a #1 receiver say, 2012? Amendola? A #1? Bradnon Gibson? A #1? 2013? Pettis? Austin?

Rams have an X (Tutu and now Robinson) they play the role of Cooks, for example
Rams have a Z (Puka), taking the Woods role, he was a Z
Rams use an F (Kupp) ----slot guy. But motions maybe the most, or the Z ... hard to know

For Rams is Kupp the #1? Puka has more catches this year, anyway. Kupp's been hurt
If Kupp is the #1 he's a slot guy. Can that be a "True #1". When healthy he produces like an OPOY, but he couldn't be an X in NFL
Kupp is the go-to guy.

Or this year is it Puka? Most catches...etc.

I always don't know what people are talking about when they say #1 because it has no common definition. It means different things to different people.

To answer your question the X, the single receiver side guy most of the time, anyway --- Robinson is getting more and more snaps the last three weeks. Looks like he's become the X. With Tutu spelling him. .. but is Tutu 100%? Did Robinson do so well in his snaps that they are giving him more?

All good questions. Don't think we know what the future holds.

Yeah there is no easy term you can use that encompasses all that. So generally when talking about the Rams WR1 to me means the guy who is the primary threat in the attack. McVay will move him around and scheme him open at times, or put him in a position where he can choice the defense to death etc. WR3 right now and given the strength of Kupp as F and Nacua as Z, both of whom are exemplary in those roles, definitely alludes to X.

Our WR1 earlier this year was Nacua, and McVay didn't just put him into Kupp's role. I think he did a good job of being ready to ensure Kupp was integrated seamlessly with him in that way.

Which goes back to a big part of the prob for Tutu. I mean if I had to say what role he's best served in, given his talent, I'd go with Z because you can scheme him open out there and that's where it's easiest to find space. Plus a Z with real juice is a beautiful thing for being able to stretch the field. But we need him up on that LOS to best complement Kupp & Nacua. And a little dude like Tutu on the LOS out wide is at a disadvantage.

Bottom line though is he's just not good enough. Really that's what it boils down to. Hell of a talent and I salute him for being able to even play out there with some of those monsters on that pro field. But this team badly needs an X with field stretching speed who can also beat a corner down the sideline on a back shoulder, or roast a safety deep middle on a post. The guy just has too many limits to him.

Here are some shots from 2019 playbook---a lot of these will be the same you can get some details from here

dotted lines are options ... they go there on one look, stay on solid line vs different looks depends on leverage or if safety is in MOF, or whatever

What you can see is the X is usually the single receiver side---but that would be predictable--so on a few of these
the X is the point of the tight bunch formation and someone else might be the single receiver side

so, I always wonder what #1, #2, #3 or whatever is ... it's just different from team to team or from coaches to scouts to from scouts to fans or fans to media

it's a nebulous term

Oh… I can tell you my perception of it… it’s simply the importance of the guy.
Who’s the most indispensable guy?
I think that’s still Kupp.. but Puka has made a huge impact.

Robinson is a legit WR, Atwell sadly is nothing more than a gimmick at this point

His numbers this year dispute that notion, so do his routes.

He’s too small, I get it. But he runs routes and has had a very important impact on this offense.

He catches the ball, draws attention and penalties.

Robinson being better doesn’t mean Tutu hasn’t been good.

Kupp is the #1 guy, to me. It's just that I never know what people mean. Even goes back to Bruce and Holt. I know what I think about each, when they were together and what Holt was after Ike was gone and what Ike was before Holt but others might have different views.

It's always an interesting question. I'd say that McVay calls more plays where ball is intended to go to Kupp than anyone ... but Kupp also gets plenty of targets when Stafford needs to get a completion, and maybe Kupp is the 2nd or 3rd read... he's a "go to guy". And as such gets guys like Puka and so for open.

That's easy... Isaac Bruce was 1A and Holt was 1B. They were both #1 receivers.

One of my fav. examples is Super Bowl year... Kupp goes down ... but Reynolds took over for him and got
what might be considered "his" targerts

So, did we have 2 #1s? None? Does 13 targets mean it was Woods who was #1?

Also, who drew the attention?

Physically, no one was a "true" #1 ... Cooks had elite speed, Kupp some other elite skills. Woods was elite in blocking but no one was the near-complete package.

I don't have the answer, only questions.

Yeah, that’s where I was going. Who gets these snaps?

I am guessing 50/50 if Atwell is healthy tonight. McVay gives Robinson more chances tonight.
