Yep. A lot of people dismissing the Landman addition and his run stopping abilities. He can't cover but he can play the run.
Then the Rams need a sideline to sideline LB that can shut down TEs over the middle as well. That was another issue for our LBs last year.

If we're looking for immediate impact maybe Barron. Or Loveland. If we're thinking a year or two down the road then Conerly Jr. At some point they have to think about right tackle. Havenstein is getting up there in age. We don't know how much longer he'll be there.
I wouldn’t trade up for any player that I don’t project as a starter, at least not in round one. The cost is too high.

That’s a big issue. But, it seems unlikely they go that route since they don’t seem to like drafting LBers before round 1.

I keep hoping for Emmanwori. I think he can play a dual role as a SS and LBer. I suspect the Seahawks Head Coach likes him and sees him as another Kyle Hamilton type for his defense. (Ravens West).

Most of the linebackers the Rams have been rumored to talk to seem to be later round guys or UDFAs.

I'd prefer a trade down if we can get an extra day two pick. We have two in the 3rd as it is. The draft calculator has number 26 to be equal value to a mid second and mid 3rd. That would give us 4 on day two. Finding a trade partner is the hard part. It would have to be someone who has a second round pick and covets a player they know won't be there in the second.

It would be nice to have a LB that can stay on the field all three downs, who can cover TEs and stop the run. I kinda doubt they prioritize that though. We'll see.

Last year they used multiple safety looks to cover TEs. We'll probably see a lot of that this year too.

Trade down is always in the Rams wheel house, we've seen it time and time again. This might not be the best year for it since the alleged talent pool isnt as deep as years past. Obviously to trade down requires a team that wants to trade up. And if the Rams are looking at trading back to pick up more picks, it's likely that other teams in the 24-32 range are thinking the same.

I forget which podcast I heard it on recently, but apparently having someone on the field capable of manning that green dot and getting everyone in place can trump overall talent at the position for some coaching staffs.

That makes sense. I'm not sure it's a requirement for McVay because they have had LBs and Safeties man that green dot. Last year it was Lake who is a team captain. Before that it was a LB. And before that it was Fuller.

If so then they may covert Malaki Starks who is a difference maker

I read somewhere that the Rams have been showing interest in him

Personally, I can see why they might take him over a LB as they don’t tend to value the position and he would be on the field more than a 2nd LB

If we take a safety later then Jaylen Reed also has the quality to become a pro-bowl type NFL player

Great minds think alike. Something amount Emmanwori has caught my attention. A lot of “bang for the buck” for ILB/NB/SS.

Grey Zabel comes out with a 90PFF grade and some glowing reviews.

If the Rams drafted him and plugged him in at center our offensive line would absolutely dominate, especially in the run game.

Worst case scenario you have a swing tackle that can take over for Havenstein.

One thing I noticed on Overthecap.com was that in 26', Dotson's cap hit is $17M. If they release him pre June 1st, they save $16M!

Now, he has played well, and no reason to think they would dump him at this point. However, if they find a good interior line prospect that they really like between now and then, it would be an obvious cap savings move to then spend that money elsewhere instead of $17M for a RG.

Why would we want to get rid of our only OL that was healthy all year and was pretty good again as well? And spend a 1st round pick on a position that's already solid instead of on a position we could and should improve? I don't get this.

I think with Zabel his versatility gives you options. Limmer and Shelton were two of the lowest rated centers last year. So if that is a weak link Zabel can come in and solidify the line possibly.

The guy was the best player at the senior bowl and maybe the top interior lineman coming out.

He also dominated at LT so it’s assumed he could be a swing option this year and take over for Havenstein when he hangs it up.

Or maybe Avila/Dotson go down.

Philly and Detroit have those top depth guys. The whole operation is compromised if you don’t have that backup.

I don’t see Mcvay doing this btw. I think he likes Shelton and Limmer.

But i wouldn’t mind Zabel if we moved out of that 26 pick to end of first round or early 2nd.

So instead of a true #1 CB or a playmaker at WR or TE we'll go for depth on OL in the first round? Makes absolutely no sense for our first pick to be a depth player.

I read the Albert Breer post, and imagine the follow-up meeting between Stefanski (Head Coach), Berry (GM) and Haslam (Owner).

Stefanski says ... "I really like Dart. I can develop him into a top quarterback. He is what the Browns need."
Then Stefanski asks the GM ... "Can we do a small trade-back, add a high 2nd round pick but still get Dart?"

Berry replies ... "Yes, we could make that happen; and still get two quality players at the top of Round 2."

That's when Haslam jumps in and proclaims ... "I wasn't paying attention but we are going to draft Carter; and, by the way, lets give a ridiculous and completely unnecessary, monster extension to our Long Snapper ... and ... of course ... make it fully guaranteed."

Jayden Higgins excites me way more than Dart.
6'4 215 4.47 40

Strengths

  • Big-bodied wideout with a wingspan over 6-foot-7.
  • Purposeful drive phase disguises comebacks and stops.
  • Runs routes with smooth strides and good balance.
  • Effective use of size to physically separate at breaks.
  • Big-time talent to track and position himself on deep balls and fades.
  • Competes for catch space using focus and hand strength to win.
  • Hands are natural, soft and sudden.

Weaknesses

  • Unable to sink hips for sudden stops and sharp cuts in his routes.
  • Will need to operate with a limited route tree.
  • No second gear to prevent corners from closing distance.
  • Finds himself in a high number of contested catches.
  • Below-average run-after-catch talent in smaller spaces.
