I was wondering when he was going to be taken. Flying up the charts lately.

Hate taking the 3-4 OLB rush types because I always prefer the big 4-3 DEs. But had to get them a pass rusher.

Absolutely. And he's very good value at this spot in the draft. I think Mayock had him his #3 or #4 pass rusher in the draft. To get that in the third, is pretty solid. If I hadn't taken Buckner and Smith in the first, I might have tried to pull a trade to move up for him.

How's that other mock comprising just us fanatics The DYVKX tried to set up coming along?

Haven't had time, sorry. The past few days I've only been able to get on for minutes at a time to check for my pick.

Real nice Pick! If you hear some screaming, It's probably @Gandalf!
I guess it's OK to let this secret out now! When Gandalf Picked CB Burns, his back-up plan was to take DE/OLB Correa! So IF he's not screaming now he will be when he hears of this pick!!:mrburnsevil:

I had Correa at #69 so that's just about right, to me, him going at #70.

Let's play this out and then discuss in depth after the draft is over

But I've already offered up a few ideas - the main one being that we treat the ROD Mock Draft like an event with a set time frame. That in and of itself will solve all time issues.

Right now the format caters to the participants infinite number of time variables instead of the format centered on a clearly defined event - one with a set time who's emphasis is on replicating the real life NFL draft in an online environment

For example if you signed up for a pot luck dinner there would be a specific time and place where the pot luck takes place -- if you don't show up at that time the pot luck continues without you. You just miss the event - and if you do show up you can't just show up without something for the pot luck table. The way this mock draft is set up is you have to wait 12 hours for someone to bring the potato salad before you can present your jello mold. It's gotta be the other way around

Eliminate the false pretense of time zones and participants variables and make it all about the event.

I mean,
We all have lives and hearing about them is rather redundant and to be honest not fun. A lot of waiting then a lot of apologies. I mean if this format works so well, why are there apologies for showing up at the 11th hour? Look entertainment is part of out lives too, not just jobs and changing diapers, and we all make time to get away and go to a movie or watch TV - so that's a non-starter and the reason for such severe delays, but also proof that we have the ability as humans to show up in time for an event

Anyway, I'm not the guy to run the event. We need someone like @Alan who is beloved to be the guy running it -- nobody is gonna show up for a draft I host -- but that doesn't mean there aren't people here that are gifted in organization and event planning who can help create a format that rocks

I think the timezones were introduced to cater for overseas participants, like myself. I'm sure that if you change to an hour window for your pick, it would replicate the 'real-life' NFL draft closer, but it would obviously exclude certain members - if thats the route the majority of participants want next years to go then thats fine, I just think you'll be running into issues with no-shows / late shows still. and you may as well leave it for a few days before the actual draft to start it, because it'll be over quick and you'll probably end up wanting to do it all again...

...sometimes the tantric approach is much more satisfying if you know what I mean ;)

I'm sure that I've seen actual drafts run on nfl.com that everyone could sign up to, or maybe that was a crazy dream...

With regards to the apologies for the delays, I believe people are just being respectful, they're not making excuses.

With regards to watching a movie - the wife and I haven't watched a whole movie from start to finish for about 4 years ;)

TheDYVKX with this:
It's a medical emergency in my family. Not the typical average workday. I always make time to be on if it's at all possible.
But that's life. When you have many people involved in something there is always a very good chance that something will, as Robert Burns would say, "Gang aft gang a-gley." Imagine someone (probably the guy who's running the mock) having to suddenly pick for another GM when you only get a few minutes on the clock. How good will his picks be and how much will bad (unexpected/head scratching) picks affect the realism of rest of the mock? I'm sure every single member of this mock fully intended to make timely picks in every round. How's that going? ;)

To a Mouse, 1786

But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane [you aren't alone]
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry]
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promised joy.

BTW, @TheDYVKX , I hope your emergency is resolved in a good way and there's no lasting harm. I have all my extremities crossed.

That's fair, but I think some posters have to be realistic with themselves and think about how much are they willing to go out of their way, even if something happens, to not inconvenience people, even at an inconvenience to themselves. It looks like all is fine now, things look to be okay (thanks for the well wishes by the way) but even when things appeared uncertain I still made the time to regularly check in, even for a minute, just in case so I didn't hold up everyone else. Some posters have to ask themselves if they're willing to do that. If not, this might not be the best thing for them.
