Cutting off your nose to spite your face much guys?

Look, I'm going to try and explain this one last time but this time without the filters I usually use.

It's not the rules. It's the fact that we don't have 32 fanatics willing to do this mock and the rules are set up to reflect that fact. How's that other mock comprising just us fanatics The DYVKX tried to set up coming along? Now you can sit around and whine about the fact that this isn't a perfect process or you can enjoy it for what it is. Every year I have to listen to this crap. I'm only doing this mock because a couple years ago Mojo was doing it and he got fed up with GMs doing the same thing they're doing this year and what they do every year. I had to take over the mock in mid stream. But you know what? At the end of the year all I heard was how everyone enjoyed it and how happy most were at the job they did for their team. That wasn't because I did such a fantastic job, it was because after everything is said and done, the mock was enjoyed by all despite the many delays. Last year I heard the same thing. You have a choice between taking this mock and any you might have next year for what it is or not having a mock at all. Are you saying you aren't enjoying this despite the delays? Would it be better if everyone made their pick within an hour of the last guy? Maybe, but again I ask, what would you do during the remaining down time before the draft?

THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like bitching at your wife about the things she does that annoy you. It might be satisfying in the moment but how does it affect the big picture, as in your marriage? Believe me, after 2 failed marriages I've learned to value and enjoy the good things instead of constantly complaining about the bad. I wish I'd learned that when I was younger.

Now having said that don't think I'm getting fed up. Yeah, I don't enjoy the constant whining and complaining or the fact that I have to pick for other GMs when I know nothing about their teams but it's a small price to pay for how much I enjoy the process as a whole. So cut off your nose and don't have a mock next year. I seriously doubt you'll like that better. Meanwhile, tell me you aren't enjoying this mock despite the frustrations you have with some casual GMs. Continue to whine and complain because that comes with the territory and doesn't bother me but when you talk about not having a mock next year you should actually think about what that would mean to the rest of your face.

People like to complain, it's the beauty of being human :) I hadn't realised some GMs were talking about NOT having a draft process next year, thats just silly. This forum and the mock draft is probably the only place I get to discuss draftees, and I'm enjoying the process (even between MY picks) I'm loving my banter with @DaveFan'51 and you other guys.

If it wasn't for the draft process last year I wouldn't have made a friend of @Alan, he would have just been another poster on the forum.

Happiness comes from learning to enjoy that space between where you were and where you want to be. Life's too short my friends. Rather than grumble about other GMs / the process (which I think is well improved form previous years, again thanks to @Alan and his meticulous management of the process) try thinking about what you could be doing with that time between.

I've been scouring the small school prospects again, I've got a gravel garden that I'm using to meditate and clear my head (with 4 kids you have to try anything right!) I'm also contacting other GMs about possible trades, up AND down the board.

I love this draft. It helps educate me on who I want the Rams to pick and maybe helps me understand a) why the Rams pick who they pick and b) how little I know. And I don't even have to wonder what I could be doing in between picks. I'm trying to get a house on the market to sell and it's just one thing after another with that and the new house I'm living in has a growing honey-do list attached to it. My 14 year old daughter is a full time job with her 5 dance classes, band trips and functions, 4H officer meetings, camps, and competitions and now having to help her schedule classes for the next four years. Whew! And on the way home from work this morning, the brakes on my truck let me know they are flirting with metal to metal harmony. What day is it anyways???

Well said guys. It's sometimes very easy to forget about the big picture amid daily annoyances.

The Jags select from Baylor CB Xavien. Howard. Perfect fit for Jags DEfense. Great press corner. Sorry for the delay, honestly thought my pick was going to be in the morning.

Overall Football Traits
Production 2
Height-Weight-Speed 2
Durability 1
Intangibles 2
1 = EXCEPTIONAL2 = ABOVE AVERAGE3 = AVERAGE4 = BELOW AVERAGE5 = MARGINAL
Cornerback Specific Traits
Instincts/Recognition 3 Good eyes and awareness in zone coverage. Reads route concepts and maintain quality correlation with targets entering in and out of territory. Also shows the ability to come off of primary assignment to make a play on the ball. Average anticipation and route recognition skills in off man coverage. Quick diagnosis against the run and recognition of the screen game.
Cover Skills 2 Above-average fluidity for a taller cornerback. Most effective in press-man where he can use his length to disrupt at the line of scrimmage and has the range to carry receivers down field. Needs some technical work in pedal in off man coverage. Also will get high in drop which can affect his balance transitioning out of breaks. Above-average top-end speed but lacks elite extra to recover down the field.

Run Support 3 Not overly physical by nature but willing to set the edge when his hand is forced. Wrap and drag down tackler that has above-average range due to length. Will lose discipline and duck inside with edge responsibility on occasion. Breaks down well in the open field to secure tackle.

Status Report
Xavien Howard (ex-AY-vee-uhn) is an underclassmen who is two year starter that is coming off of productive 2015 campaign where he recorded 10 PBUs and 5 INTs. He has an intriguing skill set due to his size, length and fluidity that fits best in a heavy press-man or press-zone scheme. There are some slight concerns about giving up late separation down the field (2015 Bowl Game vs UNC) and he can become more consistent as a tackler. Howard projects as a day two selection that should add immediate depth and has the potential to develop into quality starter. February 21, 2016
Nice Value pick. I had him pegged at #64!

I'm interested in hearing how you would approach this change!?!

Let's play this out and then discuss in depth after the draft is over

But I've already offered up a few ideas - the main one being that we treat the ROD Mock Draft like an event with a set time frame. That in and of itself will solve all time issues.

Right now the format caters to the participants infinite number of time variables instead of the format centered on a clearly defined event - one with a set time who's emphasis is on replicating the real life NFL draft in an online environment

For example if you signed up for a pot luck dinner there would be a specific time and place where the pot luck takes place -- if you don't show up at that time the pot luck continues without you. You just miss the event - and if you do show up you can't just show up without something for the pot luck table. The way this mock draft is set up is you have to wait 12 hours for someone to bring the potato salad before you can present your jello mold. It's gotta be the other way around

Eliminate the false pretense of time zones and participants variables and make it all about the event.

I mean,
We all have lives and hearing about them is rather redundant and to be honest not fun. A lot of waiting then a lot of apologies. I mean if this format works so well, why are there apologies for showing up at the 11th hour? Look entertainment is part of out lives too, not just jobs and changing diapers, and we all make time to get away and go to a movie or watch TV - so that's a non-starter and the reason for such severe delays, but also proof that we have the ability as humans to show up in time for an event

Anyway, I'm not the guy to run the event. We need someone like @Alan who is beloved to be the guy running it -- nobody is gonna show up for a draft I host -- but that doesn't mean there aren't people here that are gifted in organization and event planning who can help create a format that rocks
