I see him as backup RT/competing with Bruss at RG.

From what I've seen he seems solid, OL is just such a difficult position for a casual fan to evaluate unless they really stand out as a stud like Avila.

Regarding the idea of being Havenstein's replacement..... I know it's not YOUR idea.... but, Havenstein is under contract for another 3 seasons and will be a big Cap hit in Dead money if released or traded. In addition, at 6'4" / 306 lbs, doesn't seem like a prototypical RT. However, one of his strengths is being able to Anchor against a Bull rush. And, considering what Les Snead said late Friday night was that they would like to able to protect Stafford from inside pressure similar to the way the Saints protected Drew Brees ; allow him to step up in the pocket consistently. I think there is a good chance they want to pair him with Avila on the inside to create a wall for Stafford.

Mcvay also asked demarco how he would handle avali and mclendon pushing up the middle against him. Might be a clue on where they think he will play.

He's got slow heavy feet just like Havenstein. Just like Rob he struggles with speed. I think they kick him inside hoping he could start in 2024 at LG. But he's going to have a whole lot of competition. The two UDFAs they just signed look like very good OG prospects. I still think Jackson is the logical replacement for Havenstein in 2024. Sean Maginn is a mauler and super durable.

They seem to be willing to turn over their roster more than the average team thereby making age less of a consideration.

There has been a lot of talk about 2023 being a primer year for 2024. Clearing cap space for another shot at a ring while we still have AD, Stafford, Kupp, and McVay. I don’t think they have given up on 2023 but I think the focus of the roster departures has been 2024.

McClendon shapes like he’ll play RT or G in the long term, so it’s looking like he’ll be solid depth this year and only used to get a few reps in here and there… unless the injury bug bites again.

Guy didn't give up a sack the last 2 years starting at RT against some of the best in college football. Sounds like we should leave him alone at RT especially with Bruss Anchrum Jackson and Avila possibly on the last 2 along with Shelton at guard. Let him sit behind Big Rob for a couple years and take over eventually.

Well that was one thing I loved about our approach under Kromer. You draft OTs. The ones who don't have the feet to stick move inside. If you get one who can hang out there you're good. Then he would crosstrain the hell out of them.

I mean I give him a hard time in some ways but he did some good things too of course.

Yup it's just like baseball. You mostly draft center fielders and short stops because you can move them anywhere. You draft tackles because they can play guard and tackle usually though you don't always want to move them. Tackles don't often work at center though those are guards who can move over or centers who can move out to guard.

He seems like a potential starter at right guard and backup RT. I wonder if the coaches are just trying to give Bruss competition or do they think he may not be good enough. I recall before he was injured, that Coleman Shelton was ahead of Bruss on the depth chart.

OND hates Big Rob. He’s better than most of the right tackles in the league. McClendon is shorter and doesn’t recover quickly if he gets hit. McClendon seems like a good prospect to play RG or backup RT/RG.

Look at his contract and you will see why. They made a big mistake in extending him.

He was the only healthy Olineman on the team all of last season. He is not the problem that you think he is. Give him better linemates at RG and C and he will play even better.

Plus the dead money hit is too high to cut him.

You still think Noteboom is the best option at OLT. He’s too weak and he is too often injured. Right now the best OLT on the roster is Aleric Jackson. But you would rather create a weakness at OLT where there doesn’t need to be one.

You also have a lot of faith in UDFAs. The Rams hit the jackpot with AJ, but that’s not the norm with UDFAs. I see them as first year depth battling with the backups.
