Guy didn't give up a sack the last 2 years starting at RT against some of the best in college football. Sounds like we should leave him alone at RT especially with Bruss Anchrum Jackson and Avila possibly on the last 2 along with Shelton at guard. Let him sit behind Big Rob for a couple years and take over eventually.

He seems like a potential starter at right guard and backup RT. I wonder if the coaches are just trying to give Bruss competition or do they think he may not be good enough. I recall before he was injured, that Coleman Shelton was ahead of Bruss on the depth chart.

Not uncommon tbh with this coach and rookies not being starters right away unless the vets are sitting for a preseason game. And don't care at all about preseason depth charts we know those are shit. I'm curious if anybody remembers was he announced as a tackle or guard or OL? That's usually a good indication to what they view him as.

Yeah there's always room to grow with these guys. Avila as solid as he is still has work to do especially with his feet there are concerns there about his feet mid block.

Look at his contract and you will see why. They made a big mistake in extending him.

In your opinion it is and that's fine. What I see are 8 other Right Tackles having an average yearly salary in the range of 18-mil where Havensteins' is only 11.5. I think that is a fair salary considering how reliable he his. If they draft another RT next draft with usual Tackle measurables then I will agree with you for the 2024 season. As of now, it looks like they will most likely move McClendon inside like how Snead & McVay have alluded to.

Havenstein's never been a strong player; ever since we drafted him, he's won with technical prowess. McClendon reminds me of a smaller Havenstein coming out, actually. Never going to be the strongest (even though he's plenty strong), but will win with technique.

I’ve seen Hav struggle on pass protection but he’s been an absolute beast at times in the run game. Prefer the Rams keep him until they find another player PROVEN to be better. Until then - Gotta have me more Hav-bell!

IMO if Noteboom has a good season like I would anticipate, that would make Jackson the heir apparent to Havenstein. Zach Thomas can play swing OT though I think he would be a better OG. If Warren McClendon can work on his footwork he could also be in play for RT. His slow feet is IMO his biggest weakness. Footwork can be improved, if Wendell thinks he can fill the bill. Personally I think Jackson would be the Ram's best option at RT. If Noteboom struggles which I think would be unlikely, then Jackson would be their best option at LT.

On passing downs Allen becomes their best option at TE. He can give Havenstein a chip assist before getting out into his pattern. That is Higbee's biggest issue IMO. He either can't or won't give a chip assist to slow the speed rushers down on the right. Davis Allen could become the new starting TE in 2024 and TE2 this year, because of his willingness to block. Having a starting TE who can block also puts McClendon in play at RT if Bruss struggles and Jackson starts at RG.

I just think that Havenstein needs help against speed rushers and as someone else said - maybe a TE who can chip will help Havenstein out a lot.

Maybe they go to 12 personnel against teams with speed rushers?

Just got done watching some of his tape, he's surprisingly decent at the POA for just being a hair over 300lbs and looks decent in pass pro. Looks to me a candidate who may be able to start at LG next season and might even replace Anchrum on the roster this year.

I wouldn’t mind Olu Fashanu from PSU. He’s a well rounded OLT with no weaknesses in his game and he’s a person of high character. He’d fit right in.

You're right on the money. I think if/when Allen gets hurt this year, I think they speed up the process and insert Avila at C and slide Shelton over to G.

A 6'3" 330lbs C goes a long way in letting Stafford step up in the pocket and let himself buy time for those long developing pass plays they insist on running.

Snead/McVay referred to the Saints interior Oline of a few years ago and how well they protected Brees. So it does seem like they are using that as a goal.

Why did it take Stafford being seriously injured for them to say, we need better interior Oline play. Some of us have been talking about this for a few years now.

It’s the same with backup QB. We all knew that the backups wouldn’t be any good if they had to play. Now we have a fourth round backup instead of some UDFA QBs.

It seems like some of the priorities have been changed, which is great. Sometimes I think McVay is so intense that he cannot really address issues like these things. Then it takes a wake up call to remind him.

Yeah but what happened to 2020 and 2021

If they had done one or two OL picks in total for those two years in the first 4 rounds, we would have been in better shape last year on our bench.

After the first few back-ups went down, we had to play Evans and Kolone last year when they shouldn't have even been on the team.

Where are they now?
