I know the Vikings and Kevin O'Connell wanted to bring Jonathan Cooley with them and the Rams blocked it. Apparently it was Jonathan Cooley's scheme that was adopted late in the season that improved the secondary, thus why the Rams wanted to keep him. Good move for Chris Shula, but IMO, more of a move to diversify his resume, but I always liked Lance Shulters and believe he can help the Safeties. IMO, Jonathan Cooley is a coach on the rise and although the Rams have lost two quality secondary coaches in the last two years in Aubrey Pleasant & Ejiro Evero, IMO, the Rams are still in good shape on the back end.

find it very interesting the way Sean Mcvay especially Brown & Shula changed his coaching staff around. Challenging them to be better from a different view.
I can vision Sean Mcvay pushing himself more on the defensive side ?
Having Olsen & Cohen together should really change some of the looks on offense.Zac Robinson is sort of my favorite Coach.He is just always working with players to get better.In 2020 him seemed to be more of a QB coach? His title might not being that? Same as last season more of the reverse & think he had a lot to do with Cooper Kupps success last season.He is assigned pass game coordinator & QB coach.

Not a coincidence. Jourdan talked about it a few times. The coaches thought that Williams could handle Troy Hills role in the defense. That’s why they were willing to let Hill leave.

Williams struggled for much of the season because the Rams were trying to move him around. He’s obviously just an outside corner. The Rams put him back there and also moved Ramsey around less for the remainder of the season.

During 2020 Ramsey praised Hill for being able to do what the coaches asked, which allowed Ramsey to be moved around.

Trading for Hill is pretty much an admission that they need someone that can do what he did and they didn’t have that guy on the roster. It’s apparent that they wouldn’t take a wild guess that one of their rookies could pull it off either. Too much is riding on the repeat.

Trading for Troy Hill is actually amazing.What it shows is how much
a player fits in one system & maybe not another. David Long was supposed to have been the guy to take over for Troy Hill.

Williams tweaked his ankle early in training camp. DD21 was brought from the practice squad to fill in a lot.
Injuries played into it with RR31 having a couple injuries.His wrist I believe was his main injury.

Troy Hill is already in the weight room lifting large.His focus is so dialed in.He has a lot he wants to prove.I look back at Robey Coleman & how he helped The Rams from day 1.What Troy Hill & David Long are asked to do
is a lot different the last 2 years.


It blows my mind how Cleveland just gives up on a player like Troy Hill.I know they have drafted younger players.I guess it is a mind set.
I remember looking at The Rams DB group think who was going to step up. Troy Hill always is working hard.

If Hill stays with us for two more years and finishes his contract it is unlikely he'd get another contract big enough to give us a comp pick again but it's a nice thought.

We traded a 5th round pick in next years draft. As far as the one we already got for him, I believe it was the last one in the 6th round which was

• Round 6, Pick No. 218: Daniel Hardy, EDGE, Montana State

And the Rams are projected to have at least three fifth round comp picks next year so once they are announced it could be one of those.

The Troy Hill move was pretty genius, imo.
The Rams are going to have the ability to put rookies and a second year corner in the best positions to succeed, imo. They have enough depth.. that with the flexibility of Hill, along with Ramsey.. they'll be able to keep Rochell, Durant, Long and even Kendrick in spots that they are comfortable in. They won't need to learn multiple roles right off the bat to be productive.

2021 David Long was asked to fill Troy Hills shoes. My cues is he started with the Jersey.

Raheem Morris took some time to praise Troy Hill’s growth on and off of the field since he entered the NFL in 2015.

Following the departure of Darious Williams in free agency earlier this offseason, the Los Angeles Rams had an inexperienced cornerback group behind Jalen Ramsey. But during the 2022 NFL draft, the Rams traded for a familiar face in Troy Hill, whose maturity has impressed Raheem Morris in training camp thus far.

“He’s a real calming figure, another calming figure in that room. He’s poised. He’s a pro. I just complimented him today on how well he’s matured in the National Football League, coming from where he came from coming into this league, how he got here, going through the growing pains of a young player and maturing and watching how mature he is now, how he moves,” Morris said. “He’s an example.

When you have those kind of stories as a credit to the guys that coached him before. Whether it be (Ejiro) Evero, whether it be Aubrey (Pleasant), whether it be (Jonathan) Cooley or whether it be any of the guys that’s coached him in that room or any of the coaches that he had. That’s certainly a credit to what he’s been able to do in his career.”

Hill began his career with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015 as an undrafted cornerback out of Oregon. After a one-year stint with the Bengals, Hill would spend five seasons with the Rams through the 2020 campaign.

Back in 2016, Hill was arrested for a DUI, prompting the Rams to release him. Los Angeles would proceed to re-sign him to their practice squad after his release, giving him another opportunity. Then, before the 2017 season began, Hill was suspended two games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Hill would put his past mistakes behind him in 2020 with the Rams, putting together his best season, tallying 77 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and three interceptions in 16 starts. His performance in 2020 would lead to him signing with the Cleveland Browns in 2021, but he’ll now be returning to Los Angeles to provide versatility alongside Ramsey.

Even though Morris hasn’t gotten a chance to coach Hill until this year, he’s been impressed with the growth that he’s shown since entering the league in 2015. While Hill should bring solid production to the cornerback position, Morris is excited to add his leadership and professional traits to the locker room

Just a great-value addition to this unit. This team knows how to use him and there's no reason he can't perform to the level he did in 2020.
He brings the floor for this unit up a great deal just based on that. The young guys.. Rochell, Durant and Kendrick... probably all have more upside.. but it's good to know you won't be looking at DD or early-season DLong from last year in that role.

Nice to see that Troy has overcome some of the things that seemed to plague him early on, in and out of football, from 7-10 years ago. Always a good story when someone grows up in life and matures on/off the field... Good on the Rams for bringing him back and showing confidence in him to excel. Kudo's to all!
