He doesn't really play the slot tho. He plays the star role that occasionally lines up at the slot position. He plays all 4 off ball positions depending on the alignment

And plays them well

He primarily plays the slot but we can call it STAR if we want. As a slot player (424 snaps there) he often rotates to one of the safety spots (173 snaps there) depending on coverage and the offenses motion.

He is also the MVP of the defense this year.

You’re definitely on to something. Whatever was being protected and shielded from discovery in the Rams defense has been exposed. Lake returning might not be enough.

BTW, where the hell has Fiske been?

Lake was the reason the defense was versatile and could disguise coverage so well (he was also excellent in run defense).

Him returning (if healthy) will fix the defense.

McCreary and Lake should definitely shore up the defense along with a couple of nicked up defensive lineman and edge guys returning to health.
