I must say the "I hate this team or this player or coach" is childish to me. In my old age I don't really fan like this anymore unless I really have a reason. Also I've seen so many actual fights and dumb shit over sports it's not worth it. So I agree in some ways that the hate narrative is unhealthy. Sometimes other people being assholes get lumped in by association. It's sometimes celebrated behavior that has actual consequences.

However, I couldn't care less if someone makes fun of a coach's face. I generally don't like political correctness anyway.
There's nothing wrong with "hating" teams, coaches or players. I don't think it's childish. I think it usually for good reason. You don't really fan like that....unless you have a reason? Other fans can have other reasons can't they? I can't stand Eagle fans because I have lived amongst them for most of my life. And they'll talk shit but never own it when the team fails....which is most of the time. But I get your point about stupid fights and dumb shit over sports. That makes both parties 'dumb'. Better to avoid that crappola at any stadium or bar. In a way, wearing your team colors in a stadium as a visiting team, is beginning to ask for problems. Talking shit in that situation is begging for it. I've been to Eagles/Rams game multiple times and there are so many assholes who want to pick a fight when they see a visiting jersey.

I sat in the infamous 700 level for Vermeils first game back to Philly on a Thursday night. The Rams were 3-9 and the Eagles 2-10. As me and my buddy (a Miami fan who ran on the field in Philly back in '93 when Shula became the all time winner) were taking our seats, the people a couple of rows in front of us turned and asked us if we were gonna be cheering loudly. I said, "3-9 vs 2-10? What the fuck is there to cheer about? Why do you ask?" They point to the fans sitting higher behind us and said, "cause we don't want to get hit with anything they throw at you". We turned around and they were waving at us! Halftime in the pissers, some jack ass in line behind me screams 6 inches from the back of my head, "THE RAMS SUCK!!!". Before it went any further another Eagle fan in the line next to us said, "shut up, so do we!". No fights. I was wearing my #11 Everett Rams jersey (with no name on the back). It happened to be Rick Tutens number at the time. He was on the field 5 times and somebody asked me, "you related to the punter?" LOL.

Yeah the behavior of the assholes is exactly my point. Leads to a bunch of bad feelings that get passed from person to person.

Sports are too toxic in general - I just don't celebrate that aspect of it or act like its endearing.

I get it - I used to be that way. If I really knew Rat Boy I might actually hate him, but I don't know the guy.

And that's why I'm still single, I would NEVER date let alone marry a Niners fan woman, no matter how hot. I'm doing just fine and dandy. :sunglasses:
When I was dating my wife the subject of football came up. I explained to her than I am a huge football fan. I watch games all the time during the season. My favorite team is the Rams.

Then she responded "I've always liked the Vikings". To which I responded "Well, that isn't gonna work for me". She has been a Rams fan ever since. :sunglasses:

I didn't "hate" the whiners until we lost 17 games in a row, and in addition to losing, they started trash talking and rubbing it in. If you're beating a team that's already down, is it necessary to start calling them sorry ass losers?

I used to just consider the whiners another team. It's after haley and norton jr. started the "sosar" rams that hatred built up. The Rams have generally had the number of the she hags and tardinals but I've never thought of name calling teams that we normally beat up on. It takes special trash to do that.

Just when the Rams were getting good under McVay, the hatred was starting to go away until a golfing friend of mine (whiner's fan) started talking smack in the 2021 season about how the Rams were soft and they were going to destroy the Rams in the NFCCG. I declined his invitation to a watch party and he asked why. I told him you don't want me at your watch party AFTER the Rams win because I'm going to piss all over your parade then.

A workout buddy of mine came over to watch the Superbowl with me in 2000 when the Ram beat the Titians. He swore he would never watch another football game with me again, I went ape shit!

I don't think that was Haley.

I don't believe he and Norton over-lapped in San Francisco until the very end of Haley's career. Pretty sure it was Dana Stubblefield and Norton. The same Dana Stubblefield that's currently in prison for raping a mentally challenged woman.
