I know that I'm in the minority, but I'd am extremely curious to see what McVay could do with Zach Wilson. Another Sam Darnold type story with a better ending?
Yeah, that's who I want. He has ability and has had some good moments playing in a bad situation. A year with Payton had to help him grow up as well.

So he would be worth a look, and maybe draft a guy a little later like Howard and see which one emerges. If Wilson plays well then you have a trade chip in Howard. If Wilson is just okay then you develop Howard.

And again, I prefer Stafford for another two years and draft a kid this year or next year, but yes, a guy like Wilson makes a ton of sense as an alternative to going all in on a rookie.

Yeah. The kid just turned 25 this past August and if given the early Goff treatment with a strong rushing attack and lots of play action I believe he could be next season's big surprise story.

Stafford? Would love to have him back, but that wanes a bit if he's asking for $50 - $60 million per year (even though I won't pay a cent).

Risky, but I really liked the youth movement on defense and would sorta like to see the same done on offense.

Yeah, and the one real positive, if somehow the Stafford thing fell through, is that they would have a lot more cap space in 26' & 27' to re-sign the majority of these last two draft classes if they wanted to. Which might be part of the Rams calculation here as they work this issue.

Stafford wants another ring to solidify his HOF spot IMO. He said it himself he feels like he has lots of football left. This Rams team is young and improving and really on the cusp. If Snead and McVay tell him we are all in again for the next 2 seasons, I doubt he walks away.

I love football.

I ignore and abhor contract posturing and negotiations.
And yet it’s the gasoline that fuels the NFL motor.

Wilson is not the answer for the Rams. They could have brought him in but they didn't. And their OC knows the kid well.

Keep in mind Wilson's OL had shirts made to support the other QB, who was also shitty. I don't think that kid is gonna do a damn thing at this level other than maybe slide into a backup role and if he's really determined he'll get another shot. But there's more to QB than arm talent and the Rams don't need a deficient fuck on the sideline there.

Call and inquire on Levis. He may be cheap if the Titans go get a QB and have had enough of him. His issue is he acts like every dropback is the final 2 seconds of the fucking game when it comes to avoiding sacks. Completely careless and stupid with the hero action. But he's got a TE build and athleticism. Kid's a brick shithouse for a QB. Let him season behind a stud like Stafford and we may have something.

Definitely don't think Levis has it, he has a cannon for an arm and the build of a prototypical QB and that's it... but, his best chance is to go to a good offensive team, one probably in the Shannahan team and sit for at least two years at minimum.

He is basically a bigger John Wolford with a cannon arm.

Maybe so. But one thing Levis will do is work his ass off. Check out Coen's comments on him before the draft.

If he doesn't cut it I'd guess it will be because he is too stupid in terms of knowing when to take risks. That, btw, was Wolford's problem as well, so maybe he is a bigger Wolford. But I prefer a guy who will do the work. Someone who is pumped every day to improve and I believe he's wired that way.

I say no to either QB in Wilson and Levis. Neither has shown anything remotely close to being a legit starting QB. Either way, we'll see what they decide to do at that position.

After listening to the recent interviews of both McVay and Snead it almost feels like the team is in eulogy mode with Stafford and Kupp. In fact at this point, given that Kupp's game has degraded and given the way McVay said Kupp thinks he can play more years, that he's got it in him (paraphrasing), and the way he said Kupp deserves to play... It feels like there's a real chance Kupp is moved. Not a fan of that either. But just how I'm reading it.

Stafford I think is a bit different in that he played his best ball when the chips were on the table. And the OL was clearly a major factor in his play early this season as well as when he's struggled. But there's a financial gap between the two parties. Which is not exactly a surprise. My read on this hasn't changed due to how they made their comments, but I think what it shows is there is a rift that is serious.

I suspect the Rams will take a shot on a QB in the draft this year, either way. It is that or take a flyer on a castoff who has a draft pedigree, one that Snead and McVay liked coming out. They'll get Stafford figured out. Kupp... Man. Could be way off here but maybe they want Whit in that role, or know they're gonna go after a TE or WR middle of the field stud in this draft.

Based on his play this season, I believe Stafford has one, MAYBE two, legit SB contending years in him.

Plan accordingly.

Maybe Jimmy is the back-up plan if Stafford wants to retire. Its more if the team wants to pay him 40-60 mil for next two years or take the hit now and release him if hes not gonna be 100% in it with the team.

It effects how they are going to draft/ load up free agents on say a baun or higgins, Or lack there of. Matt stays for 2 years, we say load up the team for our best chance to win like we did in 2021-22. If not we are prob just gonna draft our list and move on and enter a semi rebuild and keep who we got/get rid of the notebooms.

This team is a borderline play off team with/without Stafford as QB. The difference being With Stafford we are a Superbowl contender!

Kupp will restructure his contract to stay, as hes done so at least twice now.

If Stafford stays, Kupp will too, If not, Kupp will be Traded.

The Rams will not let Stafford go anywhere, and I do not believe he wants to. They may pay him a guaranteed 100 million over 2 years... similar to what Kirk Cousins got. Kupp is an entirely different story. I don't know how much Kupp has left but he is definitely not worth his current contract. He might restructure or the Rams may simply release him IF they feel he has lost a step. I think Whittington can assume Kupp's role fairly easily. I'm a huge Cooper Kupp fan and I hope he stays but I get depressed every year when these great Ram players get released. So glad I am not a GM.

Isn't Kupp's current cap number as high as it is because he already restructured and converted a year or two salary into signing bonus? Isn't that spread across future years' cap number?

Give Stafford the money they would have given Noteboom after they get rid of him.
Good News / Bad News

Noteboom's contract expired, and he will be a free agent. See No Chance of the Rams re-signing him. None

Unfortunately, Noteboom will count $10M against the Rams 2025 salary cap under what is called a Void Year.

Zach Wilson wasn't a free agent to be brought in. He had to be traded for and McVay wanted Garappolo who signed a month prior to his eventual trade. Makes sense as the veteran Garappolo already had a feel for some of the offense (unlike Wentz) and would be a better backup. And Snead wasn't going to give up on his Stetson Bennett selection after just one season.

Also, it's possible that LaFleur wasn't any more ready to be an offensive coordinator / play caller than Wilson was to start as Joe Flacco looked FAR better in Cleveland than he did in New York.
