Yes, I agree. We got Bradford. He didn't work out. Not until Warner did we have a elite QB. Then Goff had the potential and did pretty good. We got lucky and got Stafford, he got us another superbowl. He's old. Back to square one soon. McVay has to stay and shine with 1 more qb before he retires. He might like to try a mobile qb with brains and cannon for an arm. Good post sir.For me, without Stafford, it's time to remove expectations of any Super Bowl appearances (let alone Super Bowl wins) in the near future. Before Goff and Stafford, we dreamed of having a competent QB, let alone a franchise QB. It's not a simple thing to lose a Stafford and replace him with some reject from another team. Don't bring up stats because that all chicken shyte come the playoffs, if we get back there in the following 5 years after him.
It definitely sounds like they're thinking of adding a RB.BTW, I just watched McVay's presser from today. In the last few minutes he talked about changes he is looking forward to making for next year. Talked about how we can't let injuries derail the season. He mentioned how the offense has to be more versatile from a personnel perspective and from a run perspective. He mentioned that he talked to Liam Cohen and noted how he likes how Tampa used Bucky Irving and their run game.
I took all of that as he felt the OL injuries shut down the offense because it shut down the passing game and the run game, with just Kyren Williams, was not dynamic enough to overcome it and help the passing game.
So seems to me that at the very least they are going to get a potential RB1 with Kyren maybe being back as your 3rd down guy. Or the new guy getting enough time to at least split carries with Williams/Corum if Willians is back. And the new guy bringing something different to the table than what Corum & Williams provide.
Also, I would think a playmaking TE can help a suspect or injured OL, and make the offense more versatile, while not relying too much on a down the field pass offense. So as we have speculated, I would imagine TE will be on the shopping list.
So to summarize he doesn't want this team to be crushed by a banged OL, resulting in a 1-4 hole out the gate. He wants them to be able to be good enough, versatile enough to play with a sub par group.
Now, one other way to do that is with a mobile QB. Makes you wonder if he wants to try to get that in this offense? My son thinks that is maybe why there are questions about moving forward with Stafford for more than one more year if there are indeed questions from the Rams side.
Also got to wonder if we move on from Kupp (likely), we'll likely also be moving further away from the dominance of 3 WR sets... I believe we started to do this towards the end of this year and I expect it to accelerate. A pass catching weapon at TE could affect that.BTW, I just watched McVay's presser from today. Stalker.Must be meeting them in Cabo his wife has posted they're there right now.
It’s Tinseltown, baby!I can’t recall this happening on any of the other 31 teams.
I'm going to watch that Press Conference again. I can away with McVay is somewhat content with how the season went, but he's far from satisfied. Just had that look in his eyes and tone in his voice that he's pissed and changes will be made personnel and philosophically.BTW, I just watched McVay's presser from today. The Rams definitely want to know if they need to get a developmental QB in this draft because I am sure they want a kid to sit and learn for a year behind Stafford. Is it less about whether he is coming back and more about how many years will be built into a new deal? I would imagine both sides have interest in longer than one more year not least because Stafford wants to cement his legacy amongst other all time greats at the position. We can offer him that and him another Super Bowl win. Why restrict that window to one season?
I see no reason why he can’t play longer than that seeing as he is a pocket passer who fits what McVay wants in terms of quick reads and getting the ball out to all corners of the field. As long as the protection holds up we are in business
