The fact they kept Bennett tells us they are focused on future roles. Otherwise Bennett is cut and on the PS.

Problem with Bennett is he doesn't move the bar for QBotF. He's a QB2 potentially. So Wilson, who should be better as an option based on pure arm talent and draft position, was not viewed as an upgrade or it would have made sense to go get him. And that trade was a late round swap which is equivalent to a ham sandwich.

No matter how you slice this shit the Rams have spoken on Wilson.
We don't know, but do you really think another team would have signed Bennett and kept him on their active roster? He probably could have still been there for the future role on the practice squad.

But keeping Wilson out of the equation, are you saying that there wasn't a better potential option than Bennett for the so-called future role?

BTW, on top of his higher base salary the trading teams split his $1,671,637 roster bonus. Could they Rams have been waiting for him to be cut? We just don't know.

In McVay's mind there must not have been. Bennett has some comfort zone I am sure, but I have to think he would jump at the chance to secure a young QB of high pick pedigree as Wilson had.

I don't expect you to agree. But given Stafford's age I am certain he would have went after the kid if LaFleur liked him.

Yeah. We have to disagree on this one. I still say that we just don't know. The team isn't in a vacuum and just because the team may want someone doesn't guarantee that they can get him for their price. A deal not getting done doesn't mean there isn't interest.

Prior to signing Garappolo the team attempted to trade for Sam Howell. If that news didn't get out it seems you would suggest that the Rams had no interest. Contrary to what may be popular belief I have my doubts that everything this organization is doing or attempts gets out. Again we just don't know.

It’s simple to me. Stafford has to come back. He just wants guaranteed money and the rams should give it to him, but he has to know that he can’t take max money as it hurts the team. So a 2 yr 90 mil or 3 yr 120 mil all guaranteed. Then you use the savings to get another TE to complement Higs and a legit MLB and maybe swing T in FA and the draft BPA with all the picks.

Stafford is a difference maker.

For Kupp it’s the same thing all guaranteed but a lower cap hit for 2 yrs.
Would there be savings after such deals?

Saturday Morning Inspection (a football channel) thinks the Rams want the clarity because they have some MASSIVE trades planned and need the clarity to make them happen.

They weren’t cutting Bennett after floating him his entire rookie year. And not only did Denver trade for him, they paid him 2.7 mill to sit on the bench.
The Rams weren’t paying Garopplo 3.2 mill and Wilson 2.7.
They wouldn’t have had to cut Bennett to take on Wilson it would have been between the milf banger or worn out porn star banger

Disagree. Wilson was a high draft pick. Jets overdrafted him but he's got talent. If the Coach who coached him in NY said good shit about him they would have made it happen.

Guess we'd have to add an a little over a half million to the salary cap for dumping Bennett, too.

Something just occurred to me.

Wilson flopped in New York under LaFleur.
Wilson joins Rams and shines under McVay.

How does that make LaFleur look?

Makes it look like McVay was one of the factors into Wilson's improved playing. LaFleur has more time to spend with him as OC than he did as HC. He has better OL and weapons as well here.

If that were to happen, you could just write it off as him being young and immature. A coach can only do so much if a player doesn't take his coaching.

Wasn't he the OC in New York with Robert Saleh as HC?
Oh right getting them mixed up those LaFleur boys. I'll stick with the last 2 add to that he probably would have benefitted from sitting and learning it helps some QB's out a lot.
