McVay also kept emphasizing how that communication can help lessen the blow if things don't workout. I pointed the Goff part out because McVay obviously regrets showing his appreciation to the player and human being Goff was during his time as a Ram prior to trading him. To me, it sure seems like he's doing that for Stafford now. I know it's a painful realization, myself included, for a lot of folks here to even consider there is a strong possibility Stafford is gone but it most definitely is. Unfortunately this is the shitty business side of the NFL which both McVay and Stafford seem to understand. McVay ultimately is saying these decisions are not personal and don't speak to the value to a player as a special human being.
I don't know, I just read it as McVay just being transparent, "Hey, we have a number that we'd like to have you back on, the teams young and we need to think about the future and I know you've got a good year or two left in you, I'm worried that our timelines don't match up, go check out some other teams, see what's out there, let us know. Let's talk again in 3 weeks. I want to work something out with you but I don't know if we can."

I think it's 50/50 he's gone. I just don't see it as being a foregone conclusion nor ignoring a painful realization since I'm starting to get stars in my eyes over draft picks and taking our lumps this year to get a QB in next years draft.

The fact of the matter is: if we matched Stafford's number he'd be a Ram. If Stafford matched out number, he'd be a Ram. If we can't meet somewhere in between he's gone. In 2 out of 3 of these scenarios, he's a Ram.

Rodgers looks done. I am sure he would like to play for McVay but I'm not sure he can handle playing for McVay.
I don't like him, but to say he is done, he had 28 tds and 11 ints playing with a weak offensive roster. Stafford was 20-8, with a better staff and supporting cast once they got healthy in week 6.

Reading some of the comments from the Giants writers after today's presser by their GM at the Combine, I would be surprised if they pull the trigger on a trade. The closer you get to the draft and fall in love with some of these players, just hard to see not only the money aspect, but premium picks being sent away.

I just think they and other teams are going to have a tough time giving a 37 yr old QB, a 2 yr $100M contract with a lot of guarantees.

Stafford & his agent may have to save face with a contract extension that guarantees very little.
I never said they would do it. I’m saying they should do it and have good reasons why. Saving their job bs being number 1.

Yeah, I mean I have gone back and forth a few times tonight on what will happen. One minute I think he is gone, then I think he has to be back since they were so close this year, then I assume he is going to be gone again based on where the roster is at right now....

And that was just my thought process over the last 45 minutes!

My biggest standout comment from McVay that really raises red flags too is the losing sleep part. I may be reading the tea leaves a bit much but that's my hunch and my tingle hahaha

Yeah I'd be careful saying he's done since Rodgers started looking better the further away he got from his injury from the previous year. With McVay, he's shown to work magic with vet QBs so I'd never discount that effect.

I’m thinking of how the Patriots kept Brady happy enough to always be underpaid. Kraft had to have been greasing the wheels out of sight, out of mind. Do you think Kroenke could be krafty like that? Hmmmm
