He's got that easy speed look to him. Like he's not even running hard but he's moving. :fire1:
Fuckin A, so this is our 2025 4th round RB pick from the Stead of Snead Auburn. I'm pushing for all of them including Corrum. A three headed monsters run run run PA run run heavy over and over..would be league historic History shows it can work. If that happens Stafford can just chill and do more mattress commercials with Kelly.

This was one hell of a RB class man. My favorite back in the entire draft went round 7 to Sheattle. We're gonna feel these boys in the league in the next few years before most of them time out on shelf life.

^^^This

Except that we get one report that Puna is doing well and that somehow translates to Shelton sucks.
Kind of an apples and oranges thing with Poona and Bennett.
Poona has a track record, and a very good one.
Shelton has a track record.
Bennett has a few quarters of sub par preseason football.

Can someone actually provide the quote where McVay says Shelton was signed to start at center? I've never known him to make such statements.
I may have misremembered, to quote Roger Clemons.
This seems to be happening to me more lately, ha.
I agree, not a very McVay like statement.
It was a video I watched and I would have sworn he said that, but, the only ones I found he alluded to that.

“I have so much confidence in what Beaux Limmer’s going to be for our football team down the line,” he said. “I think for him to be able to see how Coleman runs the show will only make him better and he'll get a chance to be able to play some guard as well.”
For the time being, McVay is excited to have Shelton back in the mix.

“It's huge. The command, the communication, that's just such an important part. You've heard us talk about it before, that rapport between the center and the quarterback, and you know how that echoes from inside out. You hear our guards communicating more. I think it'll be great,” McVay said of Shelton. “I love Coleman and it was great to be able to get him back in general throughout the spring, and he picked up where he left off, and we look forward to getting the pads on. But he's a stud and he represents everything that we're looking for.”

Those are from a 7/24 Rams Wire article.
I found a couple of quotes from Snead saying he was signed to be the starting center. But, Snead is not McVay when it comes to laying out his depth chart.
McVay all but said it but, it appears you are correct.
It was Snead who said it plainly.

Maybe so. Lot of shit gets old on this board in fact, and we all have our opinions on what constitutes old.

But let's not characterize Shelton as some kind of victim. His weakness is one-on-one vs powerful rushers. This is a known problem of his. Poona Ford has owned his ass prior, so I am sure he requires help vs him in camp. Reading anything more than that into my words is a waste of time and effort.

Also an off hand mention of Shelton does not mean I am exempting any other issues on the line.

Avila looked like dogshit last year compared to his rookie season. Maybe we can lay it all on injuries too, but I don't buy that shit personally. I think it goes back to the stupid decision to try him at C. That decision cut into what little work these guys get in preseason in the first place under McVay, and he never really found his footing thereafter. I think injuries were partially to blame, but not going to give him a pass by any means based on them nor will I presume he'll rebound. We'll see.

I think one key to any OL is that it is a group where the strength of the unit as a whole can be greater than the individual parts when they are all playing off one sheet of music. And that takes time and snaps and good coaching to get to that level. So I agree with the idea our interior OL underperformed last season, also with the idea that having a rook at C was part of the problem.

But Limmer is going into season 2. And Shelton was brought in to give that position a "floor." Meaning if Limmer cannot exceed that floor he will be on the bench. He knows where the standard is now, in that he'll have to make good calls and lead the unit. Because Shelton did those things very well. If we are lucky Limmer will elevate his calls and leadership and win that job and not look back.

In the event Shelton starts I still think we can have a good line, he'll just need help vs some matchups. Really the single biggest key is the LT position and Jackson's status. In other words I personally think we have enough horses on the interior to where they'll be much improved and whoever starts the calls should be good. So it's gonna be about blindside protection.
I agree with all of this.
I wasn't really bitching about your post specifically.
The whipping boy stuff gets old to me however.....and I ve been guilty of it too. Not casting stones really.
I never really understood the Avila to C. It would be interesting to know if that move was predicated on Jackson struggling at C or the coaches thinking Avila could dominate there. Either way, to pull the plug so late on that was a strange move.

Shelton being a "floor" for the position is a good way to put it.
They know what they are getting. Taking some physical limitations in a trade for better mastery of the mental side of things makes sense to the coaches.
My hope (either short or long term) is Limmer continues to develop and learn and earns his starting gig back by just being better than Shelton.
The Rams signing Shelton for the deal they did.....$6M/year for two years, but with an opt out option after one year.....conveys the same thing it would seem.
They get a veteran, savvy player who has experience to solidify the line and teach Limmer......makes sense.
