Not crazy at all but you're really not putting everything I'm saying together so that's ok. I'll finish my thoughts with one more thing and then move on. Witherspoon, Kendrick and Durant all free agents next year. That's half our current CB room. Add to them Jolly, Green, Woods and Lampkin are 1 year guys. Then moving in to the safeties we have Ingle, Lake and Kurl all free agents after this year. You're crazy if you don't think we're spending picks in the secondary including 2 CB and at least 1 Safety.

A pick in the 1st-3rd can become CB1. A pick after that can upgrade just about everyone else in the CB room. And we'll need both of them next year as well as a Safety next year with all the free agents we have coming up.

This year is more important than next, and that second CB is unlikely to beat those guys out.

Obviously we aren't going to agree - if the Rams double up on CB I will come in and say I was wrong. Will you do the same if they only pick one?

Put Stafford on Philly and Hurts playing against their DBs. Diff story

Let's also not ignore how our DBs held up and how the defense played in general once Witherspoon got into the lineup against just about every team.

Frank, you could beat out Forbes.

People need to stop labeling him as a former 1st round pick. What he is IS A FAILED PLAYER WE'RE TAKING A FLYER ON.

I would bet a lot of guys could beat out Forbes in this draft.
I’d take that bet. He will not likely start this year but I believe will provide quality depth in a zone scheme.

I agree with you that they'll be looking to add secondary players because so many are signed for 1 more year. And I agree that all of our starters are merely average.

But you're being super optimistic that a 3rd could immediately become CB1 or that a later pick would immediately upgrade just about everyone else. Any 3rd round or later rookie is unlikely to start in year 1. Our best chance of having an immediate or year 1 upgrade is pick 26 or something near that. That's it. In my very humble opinion.

And this is exactly why I think we will end up only taking one CB in this draft

Our second CB picked doesnt have to bear out the top 3 guys why is this hard to understand?

I dont know if they will or won't double up on CB. I'm trying to say I get it if they do. You're the one saying something can't happen. We've seen the Rams many times address free agency issues the year before they hit.

Apologies for being nitpicky; I agree with your overall point that cornerback could and should definitely be a priority, especially if D-Will continues to decline and others aren't signed...but all three of the bolded are ERFAs (Ingle is probably a RFA) at most, and will be re-signed. Wallace and McCollough are solid as well, and if Forbes improves, that's a solid group.

I can definitely get behind upgrading the corner room...but not everyone is a one-year guy who won't be re-signed. Lake, in particular, I could absolutely see re-signed. Maybe Durant if he balls out enough, maybe Witherspoon if he's willing to come back another year.
Irrelevant, we have a DB room that is full of average and a lot of it is heading to free agency. I totally get draft picks being spent on the secondary. Our top 2 defenders on snap count are both free agents after this season. Williams Durant and Witherspoon are all pending free agents. It makes sense to draft DBs.

I don't know how many will be spent there but I get it. Since I seem to be the only one thinking this I'll drop it. Don't want some random guy claiming I'm being a know it all when I'm just stating a possible draft scenario and explaining/defending my thoughts.

The Rams double dip on QB with #26 & #90 just to see the amount of heads that explode
Sean McVay, "It worked out in Washington with RGIII and Cousins, lets go to the well again"

Do I really need blue font???

Need bodies and guys with upside. Might lose 3 or 4 CBs next year. Need someone in the pipeline.

I am guessing our 1st (if no reach for QB) and a 6th or maybe a trade up to the 5th, gets us a 2nd CB.

I don't think I said it can't happen. I said I don't think it will, and I don't think we should. I will happily admit if I end up being wrong.

You could be right in that we really didn’t see Forbes last year. Really hoping we take a CB and Forbes shows something.

Let’s see if ANYONE is right first. We’re all throwing darts. I don’t think you could call anyone wrong or right unless someone nails it.

I wouldn’t be excited about it, but the whole exploding head thing is a gross exaggeration.

I contemplated if they took two QBs, then who might they be. I doubt they’d take one at 26 and 90. Maybe 26 and then one in round 6, from a smaller school

Well, Snead tends to do two things in a draft. One, he likes to carpet bomb need positions. Two, he tends to target areas a year in advance... Thus, I think we will see CB be a high priority as that position hits on both of those strategies.

Definitely agree with the second tendency which is why I expect some secondary to be drafted.

He carpet bombs sometimes but they already have so many bodies at CB that I can't see him doing it this year at that position. My guess (since that's what we're all doing) is one CB and one Safety.

FWIW, I have recently rewatched last year’s games and highlights. I was surprised to see how poorly DW played down the stretch. He is still a willing and solid tackler, but he was getting torched in coverage. He’s not as safe as some would suggest.

Maybe one of our cap specialists can cite the numbers should he get released.
