Major League came out in 1989. Rams had moved a long time ago from the Coliseum. It's the move to St Louis that I am referring to and that was 1995.
Once she moved from the Coliseum, it was only a matter of time before she found better digs. So I think the movie might very well have shadowed what was already known about the bitch.

I disagree, Same thing with Baseball - you can also pay now or pay later. There is a thing called a luxury tax and that keeps teams from going willy nilly on contracts otherwise the Dodgers would put the highest bid on every great player. They look at their payroll and decide which player is the best player for their team based on what payroll they are willing to spend.

Different type of salary cap but still a salary cap in essence.

And every team can do that.

If they can't - they should move to a city that can.

Some owners are just cheap >> Moreno
Umm... I didn't realize that this was a big reason the Dodgers are way ahead of everyone else. All due to a bankruptcy ruling. Amazing.

Seems fair :laugh3:

It's amazing that baseball can't see, what makes the NFL so great is that every market, even the teeny tiny ones, have the same chance of winning as the big markets.

Baseball, to me was at its best in the '60s and '70s before the advent of free agency, when cities like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Oakland were thriving on a level playing field. Once Steinbrenner came along, and bought up Catfish Hunter, Reggie Jackson, and then Dave Winfield that's when Baseball started to go to the Shithouse, IMHO.
Really? How come all those small market teams were contenders throughout the 80's and early 90's? From 79-91 Oakland played in 3 World Series. Minnesota played in 2. Kansas City 2, St. Louis 2, Baltimore 2, Atlanta 2, Philly 2, Boston, Detroit, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, San Diego, San Francisco. It was the strike in 94 not free agency in the mid 70's that ruined baseball. And who was the best team that year? Montreal.

Bottom line is this. MLB has to figure out a way to fix things. As Philly pointed out the Dodger's billion dollar TV deal has a small fraction subject to revenue sharing (isn't that about 1%?). That's ridiculous. Sure, it's nice for Dodger fans but MLB has 29 other fanbases to worry about. Teoscar Hernandez makes almost 20 mil? Come on now!!!!

What is interesting is when Charley Finley realized he was going to lose his star players (after 3 straight World Championships) to free agency, he sells two soon-to-be free agents to Boston (Rudi, Fingers) and one (Vida Blue) to the Yankees. Commisioner Kuhn steps in 3 days later and stops the sale, citing concern about the A's ability to be remain a competitive team. Ain't that some shit? Oh the irony. So Finley loses about 3.5 million in sales because the ability to remain competitive was in question? Ask Pittsburgh about that. Or Cincinnati. Or any other small market team who can't remain competitive for more than a season now. And furthermore, what's the difference between Finley selling those players who were soon to be free agents and teams now-a-days trading away stars because they are heading into free agency? It seems MLB has completely devoured itself for the love of money.

Arguably the best pitcher in Major League Baseball at the moment and one of the best pitchers to be traded at the deadline since C.C. Sabathia back in 2008. Won two Cy Youngs, both in back-to-back years until this year.

I have no issues with the Dodgers trading for Skubal; they had the prospect pool to do so, and they're going for the three-peat. I can't fault a team for that. I will be admittedly a bit peeved if he signs with the Dodgers - or any wealthy team, for that matter - for hundreds of millions of dollars in the offseason because it widens the gap between the "haves" and "have-nots" and makes parity all but impossible.

A lockout is almost certain if that happens.

Isn't that why MLBPA doesn't want a salary cap? The second tier players (and lower) will suffer because they're not worth the money they're getting now? It's freaking ridiculous. And unlike the NFL, these contracts are fully guaranteed.

Let's see the Dodgers or Yankees manage a roster with financial constraints. Sure the Dodgers have a fantastic farm system but they'd be crying like the small market team are now, because they wouldn't be able to keep all that talent with a cap.

These assclowns in MLB don't understand a competitive league would be great for the game.

I hope there is a lockout. Can't stand the way MLB is run currently. Greedy owners, greedy players and who foots the fucking bill? The fans.

I hope there isn't a lockout just because I'm a fan of the game. Giving you a like because I agree with the greedy owners and players. There absolutely has to be a cap ceiling and floor, or the game of baseball as we know it will die.

Every other professional league basically in the world has a cap. Baseball should as well.

I agree some sort of cap should be in place. But there should also be a floor. There are teams who can afford to pay their stars but choose not to in order to increase profits. Winning should always be a priority. It certainly is to the fans. But to some owners its not.

The Dodgers got him because he already made it known that's where he wants to sign. No team wanted to gut their farm system for a 2 month rental, when the deck was already stacked agaibst thrnbthis tear euth the Dodgers loaded roster. The Dodgers know he will stay afterwards so it made sense to just go get him now.

It's what I mentioned in my post: I want a cap ceiling and a cap floor, and even if the ceiling isn't substantial, the floor should be. I'm in complete agreement on that; I hate it a lot more when teams have money and refuse to spend any of it over teams that spend money like it's going out of style (still heavily dislike that as well, if not outright hate, but I definitely hate it a lot more when owners treat their teams, the players, the coaches and the fans of their team like shit).

Back to NFL football for me. Fuck MLB!!!

So the Rams were the favorites after their offseason moves and draft. Then they become the prohibitive favorites after trading for Garrett. What kind of favorites will they be once the Donald return becomes official???
