Look the bottom line is Goff is a very good high tier 2 QB very capable of leading a team to a Super Bowl and winning it with a good running game to support the passing attack, decent OL and good WRs. Most of all a solid defense to keep the game close and then able to close the game out when Goff gets them the lead. The Lions are one to two years away from that. Holmes is building a pretty damn good team in Detroit. With two first round picks he can get another edge and a dominant LB. He can fill in the secondary and build OL depth with his other picks.

I see the Lions in the playoffs next year but probably losing in the divisional round. They could then make a legit SB run in 2024 or 2025.

Well - our we bring up Goff because he was a Ram? There is a lot of was to skin a Cat.

What I know from what History has taught NFL Fans is what The NFL stands for.

The Rams are a perfect example of it,but it the good teams run right that have longevity.

We can talk HOF players(qB’s) or teams as well. ExRams. There is enough HISTORY to do it. I always feel like I’m some sort of a Modern Day Historian. I’d say as a Rams Fan I’m really not all that good, but Inhad a flash of it right now. Digging back without looking it up& then there were a few seasons without caring as much & hard without a solid memory bank.

I’ll just say for RB’s it was always a 5 year thing. Players like Joe Namath were before Steve Austin Day’s & Farah was just coming into her own.

Fran Tarkington got away with players not conditioning & could run around for ever in the Snow. Was sort of incredible back then.

Joe Theism had nothing on Alex Smith & to see him comeback & play. AD99 helped welcome him back was cool to see. He still had a chance to beat The Rams. Good old Troy Reeder had 3 sacks so watching Bobby Wagner has been a treat.

Not For Long. - Brady (goat) breaks that mold as a every down player.

LaBron James breaking Kareem’s records is sort of incredible as well. The changing of COLLEGE RULES is more of the reason he’ll break it.In a Lakers jersey makes it cool, especially with the Kobe passing. Talk about the area The Rams practice. His spirit has been felt by Rams players.
Messi winning it all & go out the way he did is made for The History Books.

I guess I was going to ask Oldnotdead about his feelings in the State of Arizone(Cards).

My point is The Rams have a solid foundation around them. It’s not easy to stay on Top.Things for The Rams aren’t getting any easier Anytime soon.
The Arizona Cardinals will find that out.Carson Palmer was good, but Kurt Warner was a HOF QB because he was a WINNER

goff is the antithesis of the unscheduled play qb. he can run the play that's called but if it breaks down he can throw the ball away or take the sack. in 2020 mcvay wanted him to make some unscheduled plays. he couldn't do it. the more mcvay pushed the worse goff played as he began to make some horrible decisions trying these unscheduled plays. his fumble against the whiners and his int against the seafucks are two that come to mind. and i think it irked mcvay that goff didn't work as hard as he did to better himself and, thus, the team.
I think that's a really good take and delineates well the trade we made. I think the "system QB" criticism Goff received might've been a little more accurate than I thought, at the time. I still think he knocks on the door of top-tier for a few other reasons.

Btw going back and re watching our playoff/SB run last season, I failed to appreciate how fantastic Staff played, clutch after clutch. I don't think we would've done it with anyone else.

Don't look now, but Jared Goff has 4,214 passing yards, 29 passing TDs to 7 Ints, a 100.1 passer rating, and has the Lions on the cusp of the playoffs. I don't say this to gripe about the trade. It ended up being the right move. Rather, I'm proud to see Goff shutting up so many of the people in the media who hated on him relentlessly.

That was the galling part of the debate, the insistence by some that Goff sucked.

I have no problem admitting Stafford is better and the trade was the right move, but Goff is still pretty damn good. To see his career rebound - sans McVay and the talent he had around him earlier in his career - is proof positive of that. He’s not in the elite tier, but I firmly believe he’s in the next tier below elite.

Well in all honesty, it wasn’t just the media spewing the hate, lot of that was going around here, 8 picks last year 7 so far this year, that turnover machine narrative had a few holes...guess not enduring blind side hits while preparing to throw tends to cut down on a QBs fumble rate, who knew?

Goff got a Belichick D in his SB
Staff got a McVay understudy, no need going any further there

At least we enjoyed that fantastic ride last year cuz I gotta be honest, we may be in for some .500 football the next few years

As things stand, if GB beats Det and we lose in Seattle, doesn’t that mean the Rams and Lions will meet next year as 3rd place finishers in their respective divisions?

Circle that date, that’ll be fun

And this on an 8-8 team. He has always been a very good QB except when he doesn't get good protection. I still believe the only reason why the Rams gave up on him is because Stafford became available. Otherwise, he would still be our QB. Thank God we won the super bowl last year or McSnead would be getting crucified in the media for that trade. JMHO.

only thing i know, Goff is a much better QB now, than when he was playing for the Rams
train
I think he looks pretty close to the same. He has a great Oline and running game. When he has the time he is a great passer. If the play is called right when he receives pressure he handles it pretty well. He has always been tough and can stand in there. I think his confidence has been restored and I think he has improved in some of the details of being a QB. He has only 7 ints. I hope they make the playoffs so I can watch him when the play breaks down. That has always been his weakness. See if he throws the ball away or throws the pick. Let's see if he really has improved.

Goff was dealing the cards yesterday. He looked in command.

The oline is very good in Detroit, and he seems to be really clicking with coordinator Ben Johnson schematically.

I don’t know if I like them against Green Bay week 18, however. It’s in Green Bay and they are on fire right now… the Detroit defense is very streaky. Rodgers might carve them up with the momentum they have going.

That said… It sure would be fun to see Detroit upset the Packers… AND the Rams take down Seattle. THAT sounds like a great week 18 to me!

I am not going to re-visit the nonsensical comparison of Goff vs Stafford because both are good QBs. Stafford is an elite QB who has his warts. Goff is a high tier two QB who is better than most care to perceive him as being.

Both are system QBs, and both are successful when played within the confines of their respective systems. All I will say is that Goff is blossoming in Detroit. He has a HC who trusts him. I've watched a number of Detroit games. It is common to see Goff change the play at the LOS, something he was not able to do under McVay as a consequence his INTs are way down ever since he's been in Detroit. IMO Mayfield and Goff are comparable in terms of their respective talents. Mayfield is earning McVay's trust because he's a scheme fit in ways Goff wasn't.

Baker is a high tier two QB as is Jared. Both are progression read type of QBs. If you want to compare apples to apples then compare Goff and Baker. Goff showed in 2018 he's capable of leading a team to the Super Bowl. So the question of whether can Mayfield do likewise is the question we should be asking. IMO the answer is yes Baker is as much of a Super Bowl caliber talent as Jared and the way the Ram roster is loaded with talent there is no reason to think Mayfield isn't good enough to be a Super Bowl winner.

The wildcard with the Rams is the defense. For how much talent there is on the defense, they are being sabotaged by poor coaching. With AD, Wagner, and Ramsey, 3 HOF caliber players, one on each level this defense should be a top 5 unit but it's nowhere near that. Raheem has shown he can play an aggressive style when he wants to, but he refuses to do so in most games.

If the Rams are serious about another SB run they need a new DC. One who will take the time to know his players in terms of talent. The emergence of Hoecht and Durant is an indictment of Morris. He continued to play Lewis and Kendrick despite having better players in Hoecht, Durant, and Rochell. Why did it take so long for him to see it? Because of his good enough attitude that's why.

Goff was doomed the day McVay was hired. He wasn't McVay's choice for a QB. Baker Mayfield is clearly McVay's choice as was Matt Stafford. In all likelihood, Stafford has one more season as the Rams QB. Baker will be his understudy and the eventual starter this coming season. From McVay's comments, Mayfield is the QB he wants as he has the arm talent, and the intelligence to grasp McVay's offense and play within it in ways even Stafford doesn't.

I think McVay's offense under Baker will be primarily a mid-range pass attack with occasional deep strikes. Baker has the accuracy to hit a receiver in stride and turn a 15-20 yard pass into a 40 yd play. If the deep strike is there then Baker will be expected to take the shot as he did with Jefferson in the last play of the Raider game. That showed me something that wasn't part of Baker's game in Cleveland. He could read that his number 1 read was going to break open. That is exactly how McVay wants his offense to function. If the deep shot is there from his early read then take the shot, if not focus upon the mid-range routes.

Akers is making his case to be the #1 RB and with Williams they have a very good #2. IMO they will draft or sign a FA #3 RB. Mayfield played well enough to win 2 regular season games with backup WRs and OL. IMO that will be good enough for McVay. Both Goff and Stafford IMO would have struggled to do likewise under those circumstances.

That's why I for one feel confident in a Mayfield led offense going forward. If he can play this good with a backup OL and WRs then imagine how good he can be with a good OL, Kupp and Robinson back. I think Mayfield will spread the ball around moreso than Stafford who has Kupp tunnel vision. We could see the return of the 2018 type of offense under Mayfield.
