I'm more and more intrigued by Miller as the draft gets closer. I really wish we had testing on him though.
Yeah agree with that. I think he probably hasn't run for good reason, as in he knows his 40 time won't help him. They say he ran a 4.58 a few years back so he's probably a 4.6 guy but when you watch him run his potency is about his contact balance and vision. He's relentless. Not really the kind of back McVay has favored. I like his game but not sure McVay would favor him and there's some others similar to him you can get later like Gray. Here's a game of his vs Oklahoma:

Vaughn meanwhile is much more of a McVay back. He's small as shit, which I do not like. But the guy is a fierce competitor and relentless in his own right. And he's gonna get chunks in the NFL. Here's one of his games:

Man, that contact balance and forward momentum are very nice by Miller. He also looks faster then 4.6 in the break away clip.

I am enjoying this RB talk.

The Rams are taking somebody, we just don’t know the stack of their board. As much as I’d love Gibbs, I think the Rams probably try to maximize Akers contract year.

I don’t feel good about that and want to distance myself as far as I can from our 2022 running game! :censored:

Except those last 4 games, where Akers was top 5 production back? I'd be happy to have that the full season, but, that largely depends upon the OL

Hey… I am not wanting to bag on any Ram. I just want more out of the position.

I'm counting that 4th game where he was in line for a huge game, we just sucked outside of him. 12 carries for 65 yards on a 5.4/carry avg and 3rep for 35 is the makings of a great game. But 12 carries is not enough.

I doubt the rest of the league is dumb enough to let Torrence drop to 36, but man I hope you’re right
At this point, if I can find a sportsbook with a line of whether he goes in the 1st or not, I'll definitely be taking the no side of things. Alot of pundits have Avila above him now for the sheer utility of a guy able to play all line positions, and well.

Honest question, Memphis.

In your informed opinion, do Rams have greater need at CB/Edge or at RB? Assuming all candidates are rated more or less equally.
It depends upon how they really feel about Akers (whom I can't help but to think may be traded next week) and the other players on the roster. But, as of now, I'd say CB/Edge.

Akers knows the offense so would have the edge going into camp. But beyond that Charbs would put immense heat on him. Having a guy like him behind you on the depth chart would be a nightmare.

This is what a bellcow looks like. Note how he gets stronger as the game goes on too:

I can't say that I was impressed by the highlights, but he's a very good back.
Methinks just about any new back drafted would put immense heat on Akers.

Akers is certainly capable of being the bellcow and putting up a strong season for us. But I agree caution is wise, given the letdown we've suffered at RB post-Gurley. Akers has after all been part of that.

So the Rams are going to ensure they're not in that same boat again. If they've learned anything from the past several seasons.

Yeah he's a guy who grounds the offense. Not exciting at all. Another good example of that is the UAB back who led the nation in rushing, he's another excellent bellcow type.

I don't think McVay wants that type of back. He's not shown any tendency to want that in 5 years as our coach at least. So he probably agrees with you.

Re: anyone putting heat on Akers that's been proven to not be true because our RBs behind him have been change of pace types or not capable of staying healthy when needed. So the Rams have to find someone who can be there for them and ground this offense if Akers suffers another injury.

I do think there's a good chance we see Akers have his best season in 2023. Because it's a contract year for him. Just don't position yourself to completely rely on him, that's all I ask.

Here is some interesting Ram RB Draft history,
In rounds 1 - 3 we either hit a home run or whiffed with few exceptions.
We have really had some incredible diversity from all-time greats to criminals and mentally afflicted
I say this without judgment and the sole intent of clarity for comparison

Bold is where they were selected in the round and greyed is the overall selection

Any new back drafted. And I don't mean late round special team fliers like Funk.
To date, Kyren Williams is the only back drafted since Akers and he got injured early. And I can't help but to wonder if his presence had anything to do with Mcvay's comments about him last offseason.

Well I think one big problem they had is gone, that being shitty RB Coaching that allowed the team to go with the same group of clowns for multiple seasons with the same shit result. We have a new RB Coach so hopefully he's pounding the table on this.

But also I think I'd look hard at the scouts who have been telling me these backs we're drafting are what we need. And if that voice has been the scouting side moreso than it was the RB Coach I'd fire some scouts. Because I am really tired of this backfield underachieving. At some point do something different. Which is why my hopes are bolstered by the new RB Coach. May he finally get some more fucking talent in that room so we don't end up in the same old boat by midseason yet again.

I'd love to see him push for more gap / power / counter runs and for a fullback.

It is apparent that the Rams Offense under McVay needs a steady running game. So I think they move on a guy if he’s there at 36, which is fine with me. I hope it’s Gibbs, but I won’t hold my breath.

That's why we need to move up in front of the Cowboys in round One! ~ @Merlin
