He's gonna get 40-50 mill per year
If the Rams pressure him and he has another game like he did against Detroit he probably won't.
That said, if the goal is to add first round talent Id rather spend less and bring in someone like Zach Wilson....first round talent who has done nothing.
One good year on a pretty loaded O....but still showing issues in dealing with pressure....I like Darnold but that price is wildly over valued.
With the number of teams needing QBs and the number that will be out there I think desperate teams will over pay all over the place.

You are assuming that the Vikes would even consider trading McCarthy who they have on a rookie deal for the next 3 or so years. Just not seeing that happening at this point.

They have Darnold, McCarthy, Jones and Mullins in the fold.
I don't think they will over pay for Darnold.
If Darnold gets a big offer to go somewhere else, which he probably will, I think it will be McCarthy backed up by Daniel Jones.

Jake has floated the idea of shipping a pick (mid to low) to Dallas for Trey Lance.
What would make this enticing is his huge lack of experience....something like less that 500 pass attempts through all of college and pro football to this point.
Get him signed on a few years modest deal to see if he can be developed with skilled coaching.
He certainly has the very, very raw physical tools.

Of course he has. Fortunately the Rams are smarter than that.
Im not saying I would do that, but, adding first round talent when one can is worth considering.
I just cant believe SF (Lynch I suspect) traded 3 picks to draft a guy with so few college passes.

Darnold is a choker, nope.
I would not see what Sean could do with Trevor L.

Jones is on their practice squad and is a UFA after they lose to the Rams

Cowherd loves Darnold and he's pointed out, "Peyton Manning lost his first 3 postseason games". He said, "that Detroit game was like a playoff game", but it wasn't. There was no danger of their season ending with a loss. This will be his first postseason game. It'll be interesting to see how he plays. Remember Kyler's first (and only) postseason game?

Right.
I think they might resign him on the cheap as a backup instead of paying Darnold a big payday.
I think the plan is to activate him before the playoff game so when he signs elsewhere, he'd be part of the comp pick formula
I dont think there's any chance Jones is in Minnesota next year, they can re-sign Mullens for much cheaper

True.
I guess it depends if O'Connell things there is enough there with Jones to justify the much larger salary than Mullens would demand and the camp battle between him and McCarthy.

Jones is a lot more talented. He makes sense as another reclamation project when Darnold walks.

I think if Stafford plays well in this run then we're gonna sign Jackson and add weapons for this offense. For example Higgins + one of these TEs in the draft sets this team up very nicely.

If he doesn't play well in this run then a guy like Dart is in play. Because there's no way a kid like him, who has looked good under pressure, sits on that board until round 3 when so many teams need QBs. Rams would then slide back or whatever and take him, or plan to, assuming he hits it off in whiteboard sessions with McVay and the boys.

But really the issue right now is weapons, as we have kicked around quite a bit. That and corner. Swing OT too, though that could be a nice project OT they like rounds 3 or 4. So with a good FA window this team could be very well set up.

What I'd do is try to shake Levis loose on the cheap. I think they're done with him. He knows our offense. Let him sit behind Stafford next year and watch what a badass QB looks like and how he carries himself. The real shame here is that we don't have a young QB soaking that up. But we just don't have the picks I don't think to take a QB unless it's a late round type. So if it's not Levis than go get another young QB castoff in FA and cram him into our backup role, so that is happening with the understudy.
If the league catches wind that McVay has interest in any QB, then Snead will be trading up to get him, not trading back. When a good offensive minded coach is interested in a QB, other coaches start to think they need to take a closer look.

Shanahan couldn’t get anything from him. I don’t know what makes Jake think that McVay could go any better. That’s a terrible idea. Consider that Shanahan had backups like Nick Mullens and Beathard winning games and he gave up on Lance.

I've.wondered about Trevor but I haven't seen enough of him to make an educated decision. Although from what I have seen is he's hot garbage

Trevor played us his rookie year. We beat them 37-7. But that kid played his ass off. He is 6' 6" and 220 lbs and athletic. He threw for 4000 yards in 2022 and 2023 with more TDs than picks for a garbage franchise.
He looked like a stud to me, I was impressed when he played us. The kid can run too. Got hurt this year and ended up on IR. He has only played 4 years, get him.
Trey Lance, some QBs just do not have it upstairs and when I watch him that is what I see. STAY AWAY !
BTW, Trevor is a former # 1 overall. Just like our last two quarterbacks. I like that !
