You know, for the right price, I'd go for J.J. McCarthy. He's not going to be an elite quarterback like Stafford was at his best, but as someone with weapons, he could be great, and we could win Super Bowls with him when Stafford eventually retires.

I don't think there is any way the Vikings let Darnold go. If they do, we cannot afford him. I don't think the Rams will move off Stafford just yet, and we won't be able to carry both of their contracts.

One good season is scary to me.

How many times have we seen teams get burnt by going after a guy from one year?

The Cleveland Browns say hello.

What if Stafford retired and McVay got Aaron Rodgers?

I am not a Rodgers fan. But he knows the offense.

No. Nope. No way. Absolutely not. Fuck no. No fucking way in hell. No to the fucking nope.

Why would McSnead trade for the washed-up narcissist that is Aaron Rodgers who would destroy our team's chemistry and hasn't won shit in a decade? I'd rather just pay the Vikings for J.J. McCarthy; at least he's young and can still improve.

Didn't Stafford say this year that he wanted to play for a few more years?
I’m speculating. Stafford has had some poor games this year. He also had a strange contract situation where he wanted more guaranteed money and settled for 9 million. His contract ends in 2026. Why did he suddenly want more guaranteed money?

After this season, Stafford has no more guaranteed money on his contract that runs through 2026. It's been reported that the Rams want to play this year-by-year and are reluctant to commit to him through the length of the contract.

It was rumored that the Rams were hoping the Jets called to trade for him if the Rodgers thing didn't go through. What's not a rumor is that last year the Rams tried to get Stafford to renegotiate his contract. He refused.

The contract thing seems that it was less about Stafford wanting to retire versus the Rams wanting to keep their options open and possibly move on. Stafford wisely demanded more guaranteed money this year to protect himself in case the Rams decide to go another direction.

It's about just making sure he doesn't get dinged and with Havenstein banged up, they ste not putting him outthere behind Noteboom of they don't have to. Plus, he probably could use a week of not throwing this past week to freshen up the arm.

Protect Stafford up front and evaluate him based on this year's playoff performances (we ain't winning it all with this roster). Assuming he plays well, which I expect, load up a WR and TE in FA and the draft. Add a corner and swing OT and whatever else. Maybe two corners. And then go win the title in 2025.

Well that’s not entirely true, he does have a 4 mill roster bonus guaranteed once the new league year starts. And while he may not have any other guaranteed money, he carries a near 50 mill dead cap hit.
Btw,
There was absolutely no truth to Stafford being traded or any entertaining of the idea. His dead cap hit was between 85-100 mill. There was a better chance of Joe Pendleton suiting up than trading him at the time.

I like Dart as well. If they feel that Stafford could hang it up in 2 years and if they like Dart, trade back in rd 1 or to the top of rd 2, picking up an extra 3rd, and then draft Dart.

Then could possibly trade up into rd 2 with the extra 3rd or just draft 3 contributors in rd 3.

You are assuming that the Vikes would even consider trading McCarthy who they have on a rookie deal for the next 3 or so years. Just not seeing that happening at this point.

I think if Stafford plays well in this run then we're gonna sign Jackson and add weapons for this offense. For example Higgins + one of these TEs in the draft sets this team up very nicely.

If he doesn't play well in this run then a guy like Dart is in play. Because there's no way a kid like him, who has looked good under pressure, sits on that board until round 3 when so many teams need QBs. Rams would then slide back or whatever and take him, or plan to, assuming he hits it off in whiteboard sessions with McVay and the boys.

But really the issue right now is weapons, as we have kicked around quite a bit. That and corner. Swing OT too, though that could be a nice project OT they like rounds 3 or 4. So with a good FA window this team could be very well set up.

What I'd do is try to shake Levis loose on the cheap. I think they're done with him. He knows our offense. Let him sit behind Stafford next year and watch what a badass QB looks like and how he carries himself. The real shame here is that we don't have a young QB soaking that up. But we just don't have the picks I don't think to take a QB unless it's a late round type. So if it's not Levis than go get another young QB castoff in FA and cram him into our backup role, so that is happening with the understudy.
