Kid works 7 years in Rams org.. but got promoted because he’s a Shula.

Gimme a fucking break.
Yep.

Given McVay's hiring history and approach one should (must?) reasonably conclude that there is at least some 'there' there with Shula.

I didn't recall off the top of my head that he has basically been there with McVay from the start. He certainly hasn't made much of an obvious impact that the average fan would see but apparently inside the building--where it matters--he has.

Like the hire or not, and it most certainly isn't flashy, seems both Shula and McVay should get the benefit of the doubt until such time that it becomes clear that it wasn't a good hire...

I am excited to see Chris put his stamp on this.

But the nepotism claims are idiotic.
Agreed! these types of comments are just vacuous, whether or not nepotism plays a part in ones hiring it only tells us how they got there not what their qualifications and abilities are.

I get the feeling there are people around here who are lying in wait, just waiting for the first day of OTAs, so they can unleash their pre-locked and loaded "I told you so" takes on the rest of us.

Let's get this straight - for the last 7 years every time a rams position coach has been poached away because there was no opportunity for internal progression this board has bitched and moaned about it.

Now the specific opposite has happened and we are still bitching and moaning?

At what point do we just fucking trust this coating staff and FO? How much more evidence do you guys need that they know what the fuck they're doing?

Sheesh.

Feels like one of those fast, just get it done hires because he has so much staff to replace.
The Rams requested interviews for Evero, Aden Durde (pretty sure Evero didn't happen, not sure about Durde) and interviewed: Dennard Wilson, Ron Rivera, Brandon Staley, Aubrey Pleasant, and Chris Shula.

So fast.

1. The nepotism talk was a joke. I deal with nepotism being an Iowa Hawkeye fan so I know what it is. Was a joke about Sean hiring his buddy.

2. This isn't so I can say "I told you so". I just genuinely don't like this hire at the moment. Really wanted someone outside of the organization. I will say, I'd much rather it be Shula than Pleasant.

I just really don't like it.

I hope to God it works out and he doesn't run a similar scheme and philosophy to the Raheem bend but don't break. Tired of being a soft, pushover defense. I wanted someone that's going to instill attitude and physicality mentalities into the trip.

Tired of being the bitch of a defense, I want to be the mean mother fuckers for a change.
Again all you've done in this thread is complain starting with the initial post. You have no idea what he's going to be like as a play caller or sche.e design. You don't know if McVay will even want that. But you assume something with a first time DC so you complain and talk shit about the guy.

Give him a chance before you start wondering who the next guy will be. McVay has a good track recod on DC hires with Phillips being a legend then Stsley and Morris getting HC gifs with Morris' D securing a Lombardi trophy.

I wonder how many potentially great coaches are stuck bagging groceries that will never get a chance because their grandpa wasn't a coach.

I'm sorry, I guess I forget we have to love every decision a coach makes and can't initially comment an opinion of it.

I've praised a lot of stuff initially, and this one I haven't.

Still waiting for a name...
Staley (not on the top of list), Vrabel, really liked Jimmy Lake, Wilson from BAL who went to TEN, and a few others. I would've taken Hendo over Shula but he was already gone.

Wild card was Jim Leonard.

Shula was DC for John Carroll University in 2014 and their defense was top notch. Again small school, small sample size, however, a positive result.

I am looking forward to see what moves the Rams make to aid & assist Coach Shula and I expect Chris Shula to be on some short lists come 2025 to be a Head Coach.

Things I like about Chris Shula:

- He comes from football greatness.
- He's coached all over the defense, and should have a great idea of how to get all the puzzles to fit.
- He's had mentors of Wade Philips, Brandon Staley and Raheem Morris.
- Miami was attempting to hire him to replace the GOAT Vic Fangio

Things I don't like:
- Seems like (to me) a risky experiment with a clock ticking towards the end of Stafford/Donald/Kupp window.
- Absolutely unknown what his scheme will be and I HOPE it's not Raheem soft zone/bend break defense.
- Was hoping for an outside influence.
- As a fan, I can't say I saw his mark at my position he coached for us.

There's my thought process.

It's been reported it's the same scheme. That's part of why they hired him.

I would think if someone is a "great" coach they will get their opportunity but I do agree that if all things are relatively similar it may come after the candidate with a more familiar name. If they are stuck gagging groceries they likely weren't great.

Lol what? You're really over hyping your point to the point of ridiculousness. Now if you want to say how many coaches in prep, college, low end pro jobs didn't get a chance because of their name than sure there is some argument to that but to just throw out bagging groceries as the alternative is just dumb.

Chris Shula has a degree in sports studies and 14 years of resume building to get to this point in time. I would agree his name probably helped him starting out to fast track in the college ranks but after that there is nothing abnormal to his progression compared to any other coach in the NFL. Hell he has more of a right (if basing off experience) to a d-coord job than McVay ever had when he became an O-coord in Washington.
