I like this hire at face value. He’s been with the team for a good while, knows the players, knows McVay how he works and what he likes.

There are still several coaching positions to fill and this will take some pressure off so they can move forward.

What’s not to like?

The problem with Morris is overall he was very predictable particularly on early downs.
Help me out ... these are early downs from early in NYG game --- I see 8,7,6,4,5 guys in coverage

if they are different coverages ... did Giants predict them? All different ... possible one duplicate would have
to watch to see where side strength of Giants offense was and if motion changed it. THin Cov-4, 6, 8, 2, 3

I could be wrong ... need to be close, but you can help me out if I am, correct me where I made mistakes
there probable are some.

After a dozen beers I'm liking this even less.
Nothing impressive about this guy except his last name.
I hope he proves me wrong.

Oh, and I don't want McVay anywhere the defense. He's got enough on his plate as head coach AND play caller. He needs to step up his red zone offense in particular, not becoming defensive coordinator number two.

I'm pretty meh on the choice but lets see what the guy can do. Interestingly, both he and Pleasant interviewed. And he beat out Pleasant. Sorry Pleasant truthers!

Well, I will reserve judgement until I see his performance, but I don't like it.

If his last name was Smith, he would be working at McDonald's instead of coaching football.
Sorry, but how the eff do you know that?

Heard that McVay had sights on people who we wanted, but wanted to do interviews anyway, some to learn about others but also some to check boxes. Not always pleasant (no pun intended) to say but because a good rule is in place it also means a process has to be followed. I don't know if who told me got lucky or if he had a handle on things. Just something I heard ... take it with a grain of salt of you want.

Was thought that Pleasant, Rivera, et al had a much of a chance. McVay wants to stay with scheme and focused on who could run it best.

If I'm following, there were guys we wanted but didn't get cause we stayed true to the interview process we had and wanted to talk to everyone first before making a decision?

Let's get this straight - for the last 7 years every time a rams position coach has been poached away because there was no opportunity for internal progression this board has bitched and moaned about it.

Now the specific opposite has happened and we are still bitching and moaning?

At what point do we just fucking trust this coating staff and FO? How much more evidence do you guys need that they know what the fuck they're doing?

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

I totally trust in McVay and Snead. With reasonable draft capital and some salary cap to play with, I have high hopes for next season.

Raheem helped us win a SB and this board was still tough on him. I was tough on him only with the whiners because he never seemed to adjust to the whiner's offense. But somehow he got more aggressive in the NFCCG and it paid off. And Raheem did an exceptional job this past season. I wish him well.

So people aren't allowed to question a hire? That's new to me.
Wouldn't be the first time a hire went south for McVay. Liam was a failure, though it could be argued it was more due to personnel shortage on the line. But either way you're not wrong to question it. I am in no way sure he's going to succeed.

Not particularly impressed either, though I think him beating out Staley is impressive and counts for something. Only reason I'm not worried is because I know McVay nukes this shit.

No, I prob did say it right. McVay got who he wanted but interviewed some others to make sure rules were followed.

That is what I am told. Is it true? I have no way of knowing if it is or not.

We will see same thing this year... this is basic TITE front .... but see the "gone" call

the SAM is walked away ... that is where we saw Hoecht --- DL goes from 9-4i-0-4i-9 to 5-0+-3-9

In this case the WILL would rush and the SAM would take the flat ... this would be because offense is in 12
personnel and one of the TEs is in the slot so the SAM walks out there.

Could also be 21 personnel and the FB is in the slot.

If he does not -- if he plays at his original 9 position then offense would know it's cover-2
rather than one of cover-2, Cover-3 cover-4, Cover-6 or 8 ... allows all of them to be played

In McVay I trust - just wish it wasn't a buddy - but that's not necessarily a bad thing right?

I was not and am not a huge Staley fan either. Think there were a lot of othger factors in his success.
I 100% agree.

McVay's record is so fucking good that I'm always going to trust him. He could have hired @ottoman89, and I've begrudgingly been okay with it.

Also, he must REALLY rate the guy to hire in-house because that isn't his MO at all.

I love it.

I'm fine with trusting him giving a young, loyal coach an opportunity.

This... Shula has been preparing for this role, knows the culture, and knows the personnel. This is a move focused on getting an immediate return out of the DC.

I'm fine with Shula. We can't say he hasn't paid his dues. He's worked all over the defense. I'm fine with this hire. It's not flashy, but I think it'll end up with the vast majority wanting him to stay on as DC, much like with Morris.

Thats the way I see it. Shula has been with McVay the entire time. He’s coached all over the defense. He’s been groomed for this moment and he’s earned it.

Most likely. But you're right. We need to see what happens before he judge. He could be good, bad, or somewhere in between ... I, like you, have to wonder why the doubts. Too little known.
Hey! I agree with you on a DC! Just messing.

With Hoecht's coverage ability, I would have just said fuck it - blitz Hoecht from the outside and have a safety pick up the TE.

Of course that would become predictable so what the fuck do I know.

I just wish we didn't have to use Hoecht as a SAM - he was so out of position with his coverage abilities.
