Meh. Not much in trade value, but I wasn't expecting much. The cap savings next year will be nice.

One thing for sure, Les and Sean NEVER get caught up in the sunk cost fallacy.

Yeah, you could say that it's a strength of theirs but one wonders if sometimes it hurts them. Perhaps turning on Goff too soon (though that really did work out) or attempting to throw Akers away.... but I really can't think of case of them cutting a mistake loose that's come back to bite them in the ass.

Love McSnead, but....

Moving up 17 spots in the 7th round?

That's the lowest compensation I've ever heard.

I guess to have a "trade" (a salary dump in disguise) the other team has to actually provide something in return. This return is about as minimal as it gets...

Let’s hope when we are ready to sign all of these FAs, after the draft and 2024, there are some a available that we need! It now seems our whole strategy is draft some starters and supplement with FAs

It worked for the Eagles but there are plenty of examples of such strategies being expensive failures

Snead, the scouts and our analytics, are about to show us what they have worked out - now Brad Holmes has left the building - but we are going to be reliant as much on what other teams do ahead of us making moves

I am a little worried but am strapped in and will be watching intently

Snead’s moto is still “fuck them picks”.

I guess we have adopted the old strategy of the Lions, Browns, and Jags which is to rack up cap space and pay over market value for players. Inevitably, you get a few more Allen Robinson type situations…

This is exactly why the thought of reloading to top form in 24 is highly unlikely, not enough available assets that fit, too many suitors with the same intent. It will likely take a couple of seasons to get where we all want us to be
Unless you draft real well in 23 and 24.

So when does the ability to switch course quickly with a player, translate to being flighty and impatient with a player's development? We JUST got this guy and now we are dumping him? It's not as if our evaluators had no film to work with when they picked him up from the Bears last year.

So he's unhappy....so what? What did players do in the 70's when they were unhappy? They dealt with it and still played.

Trying to understand the math here.
Signing bonus 14 mill, wrote off 1/5th of that last season. So the dead cap is 11.2. And they pick up 10 of the 15 mill due this season?
Seems to me that's a total cap hit of 21 mill- 5 mill "savings"= 16 mill cap hit (dead or otherwise) in 2023
And all Pittsburgh had to pay to get ARob on a 5mill deal is a swap of 7th rounders?
Sorry but that's some Bill O'Brien level trade comp

This, all of it
For 1 year of Allen Robinson, the Rams paid him 25.5 mill
14 mill signing bonus + 1.5 mill salary + 10 mill of 2023 comp

Teams were waiting for him to be released and get him for nothing. Moving up halfway in the 7th isn't nothing. Nick Sott was taken in the 7th round at 243. They clear enough cap to now have enough to pay their draft class and have contingency money going into next season. It gets them a decent developmental player like OG or WR who can also play STs.

AD is likely to retire next year. There is no guarantee Stafford won't retire as well. Taking the cap hits this year allows them not to be swamped next year in contingency. It's called financial planning. If one or both play through 2024 all's well and good, but neither will likely be active in 2025. It doesn't mean they are tanking this year. It means they come back to the pack this year and have to play well to be competitive. Like I said before this is the year where we see the quality of the Ram coaching staff.

Media having a field day piling on the Rams for this one. Oh well, bring it on. It's a total purge, and I understand the why.... I am struggling to find the how as far as this team becoming relevant in the near future.

The Rams TOO OFTEN have to eat shit and get out of a bad deal. It's not talked about enough.

Snead is damn lucky we got the SB or he'd be on the hot seat right now.

Fuck that I'll be on my couch watching ever game and enjoying the fuck outta them regardless of outcome like we all have for decades. Are people really not going to watch? They have a name for that kind of fan and I have a hard time believing you or many many others around here are that kind of fan.
99% Agree.

Again, completely agree with the sentiment, which is the most important point IMO.

Only disagree on the 'enjoyment ... regardless of outcome' comment.

A Rams' win is a Joyous Event ... and celebrated. A Rams' loss makes the Angels Cry.

The Rams cleared NO 2023 cap space with this trade.

They took an additional $3M cap hit.

Both Spotrac and Over-the-Cap have the numbers. $3M LESS than before the trade.

I wish it wasn't so but, unless both cap-sites are wrong, the Rams have less 2023 cap space than yesterday.

You can't find how the duo who built a Super Bowl winner can ever make the Rams relevant again?
As I stated, I can not see a clear path to relevancy in the NEAR FUTURE. 3-5 years? Sure, I can see that, and I am fine with it. But even that will be tough as we will lose our current starting QB, our HOF DT and who knows how Kupp will hold up over that period.

They have time to restock the cupboard, but they will have to be amazingly creative and hit on a high percentage of their picks as this team currently has one of the (IMO) weakest rosters in the league.

All I am saying is that they have their work cut out for them, but that is why they make the big bucks and I am just a jabroni on a fan forum. Not sure why anything I said in my post would trigger anyone, haha.

Don’t forget the trade option as well. They could trade for a highly coveted free agent before they hit FA. And will have the $$ to extend them.

They didn't clear cap because it's not June 1 yet. When the Rams declare their post June 1 transactions then the cap situation will be more clear. Right now it shows all the dead cap on this year's cap.

And they develop at an accelerated rate, FA's will get us there faster but draft picks will keep us there.
It is going to be a couple of seasons of us around here needing to pack our patience.

We seem to be more caught up with the draft compensation. I don't think that was the goal at all. Everything points to this year as a throwaway year. Its all about next year and beyond. If they win enough to make the playoffs then its just a bonus. But I don't believe that is the primary focus this year. Robinson underperformed last year. He hasn't played well the past few years. Not to mention guys like Tutu need more opportunities. Something he would not get if they kept Robinson. Tutu has the chance to be the WR3 now.
