Fuck, that WR market is looking worse by the minute. Could that help us trade Kupp for better value? Would the Rams approach him to mend things if the pickings keep getting slimmer? Don't shoot me, just thinking out loud with these questions is all lol
Indeed, my mock signing a CB might be a reality. I'm really interested in Tre Harris, Alic Ayomanor and Marcus Golden with our 1st pick. All 3 are good at the X with good speed and well rounded WR's they can excel at the X and can and have played in the slot too.

Now I'm only simply stating that comparing Noteboom to Stanley is an insult to Stanley. 1st 2 are Stanley followed by the next 2 being Noteboom....ouch (sorry had to edit cuz the website was doing my attachments weird lol)

I think you are right about that. FA market for LT is definitely scarce. We need WRs and maybe a tackle or 2
And an off-ball-LB ... and a Cornerback ... and, if Brown and Galimore are lost, at least one interior DL ...
Plus, some here want another TE, and an up-grade at RB, and are thinking of a replacement for Stafford.

All that with decent cap space but far from a ton of $ to work with; and one draft choice in the top-90 picks.

Personally, i think some Rams' fans need a dose-of-reality.

Yeah man, we got some work to do. This off season is definitely full of uncertainty. Dammit

Disagree there, just showing commitment to the guy and buying time to negotiate.
Right now AJax has all the leverage, tagging him gives leverage back to the Rams. I dont think he's getting anywhere close to 25 mill per season on an open market, but I am certain he will get more than 25 mill guaranteed
You're right on tagging him gives some leverage to the Rams.

They may wait until the last minute to tag him. Teams often hear whispers of what a player will command on the market at the Combine. If the Rams think he may get away based on these whispers, they may opt to tag him.

The Combine ends 3/2. The tag deadline is 3/4.

That might be true on paper but there isn't a coaching staff/front office in the NFL I'd trust to keep us competitive more than the one we have right now.

If the last few years have proven anything it's that McSnead knows how to defy the odds to put together a good football team. These guys are never rebuilding only resupplying.

He doesn't have all the leverage. If he asks for too much, the Rams will do what they normally do and not pony up if they feel he's surpassing what they are ok with paying. Using the franchise tag is only used if they are comfortable paying close to that amount as Ajax's agent would push for a bigger contract by the Rams doing that and showing desperation. There are such things as overplaying his hand here but I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but....does it leave us without a LT if he does? Yes....but doesn't mean the Rams can't pivot to another LT option. Who that may be is anyone's guess.
He has all the leverage. It's not even debatable. He is a UFA that can sign with whoever he wants. What changes that is if the Rams DNA rifle block by putting the tag on him. Desperation? That's silly and just fan talk. Personally I think the biggest roadblock is figuring out what they are doing with #9 and the sad reality may be that they cant afford Ajax if they extend Stafford.

They have his average right at like 14.5 on sporttrac. Curious asf what we end up offering/giving him.
Not sure how that works looking at what UFA OG's got last year. If a guard gets 18 mill surely a LT gets 20
But we'll see. Heck it's not my money

Yes but what happens when a team with a lot of cap desperate for a LT comes in and offers him what the franchise tag would be or even more the first couple years? You've now backed yourself into a corner to either over pay (more than you want to pay) your LT or you're going to have to draft one.
Yes but as you said - his agent may want to test the free agent market no matter what. I doubt we will be able to sign him before FA.

I would still try to sign him before FA but at least this way, we can at least match it if it is within reason.

I would trade down if at all possible to get an late first/early second and late second if we can.

I might also ... unless a prospect slips to #26 that the Rams' decision-makers really like.
Still, there has to be a market; and if more teams want to trade-back (often the case) the return is lessened.

Leverage is always debatable. If Ajax is pricing himself out and the Rams aren't willing to go there, how is that leverage at all against the Rams? It just means the Rams would be ok with letting him walk or test the market. I think it would be a mistake personally, but we don't know what Ajax and his agent are aiming for. Shit, we are debating Stafford asking for too much right now on this very board lol. What if the Rams are eyeing a LT in FA or maybe even in the draft? The Rams went young on defense, could be looking to do it on offense too. Not predicting they are, just basically saying there are always options whether good or bad in our eyes. Now as far as Stafford, that is definitely and obviously the hold up on anything else going down contract wise with any other player. How they structure the contract, if he resigns, will be the determining factor on who they can sign. Saying they can't sign anyone if he is, is quite silly at this point. Don't the Rams have more cap in 2026? If so, Ajax or anyone else's cap hit doesn't have to be large for this year, but could get quite bigger past that. Also, what if we can trade Kupp for better compensation without paying a bigger chunk of his contract because the WR market just became more diluted with Higgins and Godwin being out of FA? There are way too many things that can happen before trying to predict future contracts at this point.

Yeah I was thinking about 20-22 mill/yr avg. myself tbh.

Think our FO is trying something like that which is the reason nothing has been signed just yet and it's taking a bit longer. If he's avg per year was alot more I think Jacksons camp would have agreed by now and it would already be announced.
