It’s not a players union thing. They won’t do anything about it. Thats why there is no cap. In general I like baseball. That Rockies/Marlins picture with a couple dozen fans is a reminder of how the game is broken. I’d prefer a cap and a floor. Competitive balance is good for the sport.

The Lluxury Tax is set up in levels. It’s not possible for any team to pay more or less than another if they are on the same payroll level, for the same number of years for the payroll portion of revenue sharing. The Yankees reset their luxury tax by going below the first threshold a few years ago. What teams pay out increases with the number of consecutive years that they are over the threshold. 1 year is 10%, 2 years is 20%, 3 years is 30%. There is a second part to the revenue sharing program, that calculates a teams overall revenue, minus stadium costs. The Dodgers put themselves at the top of that heap by becoming the leaders in the Asian market by signing the three biggest Japanese stars.

It’s a system created to try to keep one team from dominating all the time. If they choose to go over the tax, then they are punished by paying more money. The Dodgers are trying to avoid some of the penalties. It defies the entire system that was put in place by the owners to try to fix some of the problem of competitive balance. It’s basically dodging taxes.
Well it IS a players' union thing. It was agreed to by the union. It was not just handed down by the owners somehow.

Since 2022 I believe the tax percentage numbers you stated are actually 20-30-50. The Dodgers are paying the tax as they are required.

Bottom line is that they are working within the rules. You can say they are trying to skirt them all you want.

The Rockies are not a particularly good example. They are a historically poorly run organization. However, I'm not opposed to a cap and a floor of some sort. But the players' union and ownership has to agree on something. Good luck with that.

There are at least 6 teams paying a lower payroll than they get from revenue sharing. Until MLB and the union fixes that then fuck em. Add to that at least half the league pays less payroll than revenue sharing, local TV contracts, national TV money and GameDay revenue combined. So a double middle finger to them.

Those are the things baseball needs to fix.

As a Dodger fan I'm happy my team is willing to spend whatever it takes to field a winner. Too bad the NFL isn't like MLB. I'm pretty sure Stan would be one the higher spending owners.

With that said I do feel for the small market teams. If they have a good young player they develop him only to see him leave for big money with a large market team. It does seem unfair. Once in a while the small market team can field a good competitive team. But they can't sustain for a decade it the way teams like the Dodgers and Yankees can.

If Browns and Cowboys fans were so smart why do they continue to follow their teams? Tampa Bay as #3. While it may be an over generalization, the writer is aware of the Florida man and woman phenomena, no?

Lastly, the Bills mafia is #1 for biggest heart or perhaps highest emotional intelligence. However, getting wasted and jumping through tables does not inspire warm feels of intelligence.

They probably have the most Darwin awards. If there is a category for most delusional fans 49ers are number one by a longshot.

Hey. I don’t remember if you’re still living in SLO. We may be moving back to Atascadero in a little over a year.
I envy you. I graduated from Cal Poly SLO and would love to move back to that area. Best place on earth.

I was bummed because the Aces stadium here in Reno was in the running to get the As. I would have loved to watch an MLB game there. My boss went to the Yankme v As game there and said it was a lot like our stadium.
Ha. Like your Podunk town had a shot at the A's, Stu. I've seen that stadium. Instead, they chose MY podunk town, Sacramento, so the lowly A's can maybe get some of the few remaining A's fans pop over the hill for some games.

Plus, I get to make the daily decision NOT to go see the A's this summer in 100 degree heat in a stadium they share with the Giants AAA team, and the stank they probably leave in the dugout.

(P.S. the company I worked for used to sponsor the River Cats back when they were the A's AAA team and we would get the "VIP" seats, free parking and access to the Banquet layout before the game. WORST food ever! in that stadium. And I don't just mean worst restaurant or club food. Just tasteless-low-effort garbage. Then the product on the field was more of the same.)
I've played in softball games with more people watching.
Well, @snackdaddy it's no wonder, with your longball prowess. I'm sure the bleachers were packed!

I attended the VIP section of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, which is the Yankees AAA team. The food was just as you described. It was tasteless, reheated, frozen food. Maybe that’s common for minor league parks.

On the other hand, at Yankees stadium VIP section the food was excellent.
