smh, rip MLB. 'shoulda stayed true to your roots.
Probably has more to do with a team that is 10-50. There's actually a lawsuit right now where a guy in a box seat sustained damage from a foul ball. Among other factors in the case, the guy is claiming that the Rockies put such a bad product on the field that no one was paying attention to the game and therefore didn't see the foul ball coming.

Never has a team been so aptly named. It’s as if someone foresaw the future back in 1883 and they chose that name.
Jealous much? The Trolly Dodgers (only team in MLB to be named after their fans) have been one of, if not THE best attended franchise in baseball for what? - the last decade or more? They also have the best attendance for away games.

Yankees and Mets had higher payrolls in ‘24 and ‘23. In ‘23 the Dodgers were 7th, had the highest attendance and won 100 games.

I’m sure fans of any other team would hate for their team to have the highest payroll.

Yeah, absolutely. And the giANTS can't even score one run when their ace pitcher goes 8 strong, shutout innings. The Dodgers should target poaching Webb from the pathetic Giants, when his contract runs out in another year or so. Giants are the worst hitting team in MLB history.

And it's no wonder- I was listening to their flagship radio and their batting coach Pat Burrell has a losers mentality- actually said, "We are struggling right now, and our goal is just to scratch out a run or two"

Who thinks that way? A loser. That's who.

They are on pace to a 26 win season - an absolute embarrassment to baseball
I live in Colorado. So many fans want this to help force the Monfort Brothers to sale the team. They are horrific. I'm not one to say a great college team can beat an average pro team, but this Rockie's team would find a way to lose.

I was referring to the deferred payments. That’s how they are Dodging the Luxury Tax.

No. I’m not jealous. I’ve enjoyed more than my share of winning baseball and my team winning World Series. You seem pretty defensive for some reason.

The Dodgers paid over $100 million in “tax” last season.

I’m not sure how you hold it against a team if they are doing things within the rules as they are at the time. The deferrals are within the rules.

They make and spend a lot of money. Other teams have tried that with varying success. If they can get away with it, more power to them. Not defensive. Maybe a little tired of hearing about it is all. There’s not a fan base out there that wouldn’t love it if their team was pulling it off.

Your team had a higher payroll last year and paid far less in luxury tax. How did they do that? I don’t blame them. They did it within the rules.

Anyway, it is what it is. Until the MLB and players union figure out a way to change things, they will remain the same. But I’m not sure I’d expect the players union to step up as the rules also really benefit them and their star players.

Oakland West Sacramento DisgrA’s
I was bummed because the Aces stadium here in Reno was in the running to get the As. I would have loved to watch an MLB game there. My boss went to the Yankme v As game there and said it was a lot like our stadium.

It’s not a players union thing. They won’t do anything about it. Thats why there is no cap. In general I like baseball. That Rockies/Marlins picture with a couple dozen fans is a reminder of how the game is broken. I’d prefer a cap and a floor. Competitive balance is good for the sport.

The Lluxury Tax is set up in levels. It’s not possible for any team to pay more or less than another if they are on the same payroll level, for the same number of years for the payroll portion of revenue sharing. The Yankees reset their luxury tax by going below the first threshold a few years ago. What teams pay out increases with the number of consecutive years that they are over the threshold. 1 year is 10%, 2 years is 20%, 3 years is 30%. There is a second part to the revenue sharing program, that calculates a teams overall revenue, minus stadium costs. The Dodgers put themselves at the top of that heap by becoming the leaders in the Asian market by signing the three biggest Japanese stars.

It’s a system created to try to keep one team from dominating all the time. If they choose to go over the tax, then they are punished by paying more money. The Dodgers are trying to avoid some of the penalties. It defies the entire system that was put in place by the owners to try to fix some of the problem of competitive balance. It’s basically dodging taxes.
