Don't understand why they would? They've got two years of him under contract at a great cap hit, relatively speaking, at $30 mil a year. That's a bargain these days. He'll still only be 30 at the end and if he takes them to the promise land then they'd have no qualms giving him a stupid contract at that point. If Lions are smart they see how 2023 goes and then maybe start talking if they think they want him another 5 years.
I'm sure Goff's side wants to wrap something up, 2024 is non guaranteed.
Funny how things can change. Entering 2022, Goff was looking like a potential cap casualty if things went sideways. Now he's on track for a monster payout

Or they take a QB in this draft and look to move on from him in some fashion.

Oh yeah, I'm sure Goff's camp would love to get something done but not a whole lot of leverage there for them. He built his stock back up quite well this past year but they need to have a deep playoff run with positive QB play before I see them delving out more years for him. Especially with all of the assets they have to go get a young guy if they wanted to. Looking forward to watching the Lions this season as Goff will likely earn that big payday.

If I'm Detroit I wait and make him lead that team in the playoffs. Judge him off that. If they pay him early they might end up regretting it because they may determine at some point he is holding them back but they'll be locked in. Because their owner isn't a badass like Kroenke.

The leverage he has would be not looking for a Jalen Hurts deal....... Yet
Its the smart play for both sides, guarantee his number for 2024, add another 2-3 years at <cough> 40 mill per
Or, they wait another year, he has an MVP type season and he wants Joe Burrow money.....

You can say what you want about Jared Goff. When it comes down to it we’ll see who gets the Last Laugh?

The Lions IMO are a lot better to The Rams, especially after they draft a couple more key players.
The Rams #6 is worth something? The Lions draft pick is(guessing) # 18 ?
Super Bowl 56. I win the smack down, homeloaf until the Lions equal that….

You can add 20 other players as well that played a big part of The Rams Super Bowl run.
The Rams have signed who ? Copeland to an extension basically? Sounds like a championship run!!

Example Hags getting Bobby Wagner The Rams MVP in 2022,
& they get those Skins picks as well as there 1st rd pick. The did also sign some nice picks in FA.
Add they did beat The Rams to sneak in in front of Jared Goff playoffs.
You can, I wouldn’t. It blows my mind how many here said a priority was to keep Greg Gaines for next season, but now that he’s gone, he”s little regarded and just another JAG. Let alone Ramsey…

Dude far enough . I’m a Rams Fan. It is what it is. Football goes on & history is being made all the time.
—What’s Green Bay going to get for Aaron Rogers ?
—Detroit signed Montgomery who should add to there team.

What will be The Rams record 2023 against the NFC West ?

I was there to see the cutting of the tape in 2021,was pretty classic!!! My GF is a closet 8er fan. Would have sucked having to get the leather out & put the gag-ball in. Those LShings would have hurt.

I wanted A’ Robinson back.

There is THE DAWG run STUFFER!

Greg Gaines & co(Nick Scott) all stepped up when it counted & had a lot of heart.

And he still wont get a new contract. This is a strange hill to die on,. He has no leverage. And Ramsey had the leverage that the organization he played for (Jacksonville) was such a disaster that his actions were deemed necessary. Anyway, just to play along, you are suggesting that Jackson's "Ramsey leverage" would be to be such a malcontent that the Ravens would be forced to trade him. A team that would be willing to pay a premium for his services for just this season, (Ramsey trade netted 2 1st round picks) and then be willing to sign him long term after the season for a massive contract. That's his leverage? Well, if such a team existed, they can sign him right now., wouldnt have to go thru all the machinations. That team doesnt exist, hence No Leverage
I am right there with your take. If he were so valuable why haven’t teams lined up to pay a kings ransom to the Ravens for his talents? He’s a scheme guy that would destroy the chemistry of any team that traded for him. He’s a running quarterback ( his running side is a half life in the NFL now, just ask true RBs how long they are at the top of their game). So basically he’s on the downside of his career regarding half his game. That’s not worth 200 million guaranteed, crap I don’t know if that is worth any guarantee at the rate he misses games and is injured. IMO

Honestly, if I'm Detroit I get one of these guys (QBs) this year. I don't feel they will be picking top 10 anytime soon. Regardless of if Goff is solid enough to get them to playoffs, they are going to have to pay him a huge extension shortly. I'd get a young, cheap, potentially elite QB in there and ride Goff this year, and get something for trading him next year.

or carry the guy as an elite back-up QB and trade him in a couple of years.

So...we won the f-ing SB because of that trade.
Predictably, we are paying for it now and the Lions are cashing in.
When it comes to the "last Laugh," if Goff leads them to a SB victory I will eat my hat.

You can keep repeating that he has no leverage, but the Ravens' conduct proves otherwise. It is indeed a strange hill to die on claiming that Lamar has no leverage when the Ravens continue to make strong offers and try to acquire players Lamar wants. It's almost as if Lamar *gasp* has leverage.
