Saffold on Goff

Last 10 years have been dreadful. I think the best thing about the drafting of Jared Goff was the disposal of Jeff Fisher.
I could not handle another 2 plus years of that poor of an offense.Maybe it shows how bad his knowledge was of offensive lineman. No wonder he never drafted one in the 1st rd. What a disaster.
I hear you! Plus to factor in his reasoning was maddening. Glad it's over with.

Good news: according to PFT readers, the Rams aren't the most dysfunctional NFL franchise

Which is the best coaching vacancy?
Posted by Mike Florio on January 3, 2017

Six coaching jobs are open. So which one is the best?

That’s Wednesday’s question of the day on PFT Live. The choices are below and, for a change, no one can complain about any options that have been omitted. All six vacancies are there; cast your vote, defend it in the comments, and call those who disagree with you an idiot.

Because, really, that’s the new American way.

Which coaching vacancy is the best?

Broncos. 59.98% (2,221 votes)

49ers. 11.21% (415 votes)

Jaguars. 10.18% (377 votes)

Chargers. 8.59% (318 votes)

Rams. 7.16% (265 votes)

Bills. 2.88% (107 votes)

Total Votes: 3,703

Why don't our guys use Mike Martz?

The issue with Martz isn't that the game has passed him by.

It's that his scheme exposes QBs to damage. Sometimes QBs need to hold the ball to deliver a pass and he encourages that.

Well... QBs can be tough and all, but after Warner, Bulger, Kitna and others, while they all performed very well, they all took tons of damage and rather than have 10 year careers, they all only performed very well for at most 3-4 years before severely deteriorating due to physical damage.

College doesn't supply enough franchise QBs to expose them to that kind of damage which is why you just won't see Martz allowed near more NFL QBs.

Essentially, he breaks his toys... and when that toy is an NFL Franchise QB... that's like crashing a rare, vintage car... after breaking a land speed record with it. The record is nice, but it won't take long before owners won't trust you with their cars anymore.

And while us fans want to see records...especially when our current jalopy can't hardly get out of 1st gear... owners just aren't going to trust Mike with the keys.

Being terrible at the job isn't the cardinal sin for OCs or HCs in the NFL. Damaging or allowing to be damaged your QB? That's the cardinal sin. And he violated it multiple times at multiple stops.

/shrug. It is what it is.

Blocking scheme and it's potential role in the HC hire

On defense the Rams have to run a 4-3 because of Donald. On offense there is nobody that is good enough to warrant a certain scheme. The canvas is blank.

I disagree. I think a creative DC could use AD as a 1 gap DE like they use JJ Watt. Not every DE in a 3-4 is a 2 gap space eater...

JJ Watt is often playing a 1 gap in the 5, 7 or even wide 9. You don't use as many swim or rip moves as he does if you're trying to play a 2 gap role...

We Wish You A Merry Christmas Mock Offseason.

Did Trumaine leave in Free Agency or did I miss that part?

I love any Mock With Jeffrey as he is a bonafide WR type that rarely shakes free. PFF has him right under Julio Jones and Antonio Brown as 3rd best WR in 2015. Still Young! If the Rams need to go after one player (overspending a little) its Jeffrey.

The Oline in Free Agency must also be fixed so I like what you did there.

Pleasant news from 40whinerville

About the only thing enjoyable about my nearly 8-hour drive back to the Bay Area from LA last night was picking up KNBR along the way and listening to all the whining, especially from the bandwagon fans.

I do believe the comic relief was instrumental in keeping me in my truck rather than jumping out to round up all the knuckleheads that were gumming up the 5!:sneaky:

Payton, Shanahan or McDaniels

Well, yeah, I admitted in the other post that I had forgotten they had taken Lynch (old age dammit). But for the record I do like Goff much more, and Denver's OL is not in good shape as Elway recently admitted. Elway is the upside for Denver IMO, because a coach will know that he's going to aggressively go after what they need. But I think more gets made of rosters in comparing of jobs than it is in importance, as coaches also look hard at owners and how deep their pockets are, location, etc.

Rams have some really nice pieces but they also have an enormous amount of positives from the owner's deep pockets, to the world class stadium, to the market, to the fact that turning around LA will make a head coach a star. I don't think their personnel are bad enough to counter those things, and believe they are still the top job.
Ya I wrote that before I seen the other post lol :sleepz:

Jrry32 Yes, I Made Another Mock

I don't like Haley. In fact, I want to punch him in the face when I see his face.

And trust me, I am all about putting dam near all our resources towards Oline. Even if it's 2 year stop gaps until we can draft some guys early. But my second priority after Oline if I can is a proven WR like Alshon. Someone that has put up over 1400 yards and 10 TD's and still has youth.

But what is up with Alshon saying the Bears are gonna win the super bowl in '17? Does that mean he taking the Home town discount this offseason?.
