Sean McVay, Sammy Watkins Press Conference 8-22

Something seems amiss with the Tavon and Quinn "injury" situations. Short on details. Not sure what that means but it's just odd.

I certainly hope I am wrong but maybe it's all to ensure they're both healthy enough to pass the physical exam that is mandatory for a potential trade. Maybe they are hoping that a team becomes desperate enough that they would pick up either of these unfriendly contracts - with the intent of freeing up cap space, signing Donald and snag an extra pick here or there?

There is another possible motive: If Aaron Donald misses significant time this season, Robert Quinn is far and away the best pass rusher on this team. He can take over and wreck games singlehandedly. Without AD99 around, a healthy 94 is IMO the Rams most gifted player and Wade Phillips best hope for creating pressure without the blitz.
To enter this season without either on the field would be an awful lot to overcome.

As for Tavon, another possibility is that he is dealing with some nagging hamstring issues and really needs time to get it behind him... but there might be a strategic opportunity to take advantage of:
Without appearing on any preseason film, TA's role in this offense remains a complete mystery to DCs. Dislike the player, hate his contract or whatever, this fact remains: His skillset demands a lot of the Defenses attention. Keeping Tavon from getting the ball in space is a priority.
Unleashing him on a defense that doesnt know what to expect might be worth a W when the W's count...

Anyways - those are all just my tinfoil hat theories, I dont necessarily believe any to be true or more likely than the answers given by our HC.

Rams sign DB Tyquwan Glass

So we waived that Deshaud Lyons guy to make room. He looks taller than 5'11" in that pro day video. Any Fresno State fans here at ROD that can give us the low down?

I'm close enough to Fresno that all my radio and local TV stations are from Fresno. All I know is, they were 1-11 last year and they had a really bad defense. So there's that.

#80 - Isaac Bruce

Newbie question here --- how come the Rams retired Isaac Bruce's #80 but not Torry Holt's #81? From what I've retroactively learned about the St. Louis incarnation of the Rams they were both integral parts of the GSOT era.

What's the difference?
Bruce was a longer tenured Ram coming in board in 94 I believe.
Not looking to start an argument but he was better as well.

McVay Presser 08/21/17

I sure hope your right here.I am thinking he will have a repeat of 2015 a repeat of 2016 & a repeat of what happen in OTA's, training camp & the last 2 pre season gms. I just have no faith in Quinn's ability to remain healthy. The evidence is in on Quinn since 2014.....this 2015/2016/2017 version of Quinn is a part time player @ best being paid like full time an all pro 10 to 15 sack king.

Agreed my friend, unfortunately. I hate to look too far down the road, but I'm of the belief if he doesn't step it up he's gone next off-season, which will mean we'll probably have two new, young OLB's heading into 2018 season because I don't see Barwin back with all our key free agents unless he takes vet minimum. Not to mention we drafted (his name slips my mind; currently hurt) to replace one I'm sure. We shall certainly see....

I don't want Austin in at WR

Wait-a-minute...LOL Explain the cash thing in two sentences and then I'll bet you. I ain't betting if I don't know what there is to lose...LOL Right now you're getting a hot cup of jack squat!

I don't understand what there is to explain. You made a claim, I offered to wager $20k ROD dolla on it. If you don't want to no sweat, just messin around tbh it's not a big deal.

Cowboys Dodged A Bullet When Jerry Jones Tried And Failed To Trade Up For Paxton Lynch

Lynch was always going to take a couple of years to develop. He was acknowledged as being very raw when he was drafted so Siemian beating him in this QB comp shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. If he fails to win the job this time next year then that's the time for people to question the pick.

I've never understood the desperation for 1st round QBs to start (and succeed) immediately. Patience has always been a virtue but even more so now that the college game resembles the NFL less than ever before.
