Redo the Defense

Did you see how Mike Zimmer gave his defense a 5 minute rest when the Lions were rolling down the field?

He threw a red flag to challenge a play.
They lost the challenge and Detroit lost the momentum.

The Lions kicked a field goal because the Vikings were able to use that rest to their advantage.

Back in the day, I heard the same terminology used by different doctors but meaning the same. I had my knee "scoped" by one doc who was cleaning up and repairing meniscus tears. Another doc "scoped" my shoulder to do a subacromial decompression. The third used the arthroscopic surgery term when going into my shoulder again cleaning up scar tissue and some other damage.
These days, with the incredible MRI technology available, I wouldn't think there would be much need to poke some instruments into somebody just to look around.

Jared Goff has been one of the best pocket passers this season

I was one of the toughest people on Goff last season here, I wasn't a fan, and he didn't really show us a lot either.

But this year is different, and I will admit I was wrong.

However, it sure is funny what happens when you give a guy real receivers to throw to, good pass protection, and a legitimate NFL offense to play in. None of which we have had for over 10 years.

Right now it seems like our biggest problem is at the nose. When Wade first came over I expected him to get a prototype space eating NT, but of course that never happened, and at this point I'm not sure he is necessarily looking for that type on the nose. He probably just needs a better overall DT in there, who can win his gap plain and simple.

Either way this defense is going to get tested vs the Saints and Eagles. We're gonna know what our needs are for sure pretty soon, and whether this group is ready to hang in a playoff environment.

What I've seen,and I certainly haven't studied it,We have so much push up field at times from the
one gap system,that we are running ourselves right out of a lot of runs.
We are not getting down the line and are getting caught too deep.
As to Ogletree,agree on the weakside.

Tom could probably light up 90% of the league's defenses without his achilles. Just standing there in shotgun.

I can't wait for Garoppolo to get pounded behind SF's line. So tired of the Boston-led overhype of every MFing backup QB the Cheatriots have drafted and dealt.

Someday when Tom's done, those fans are going to find out what it's like to not have an elite QB. And I will relish their failure, the wailing and gnashing of teeth, from afar.

How about this.

He's been open about his substance abuse issues and I STILL would be willing to go after him if he's available because I think he's a better fit than Watkins. (Newsflash: not every player, even elite player, is a fit for every scheme. That might be the case for Sammy, unfortunately)

Moreover, and I'll cop to this bias, I think there should be entirely different treatment for those dealing with substance abuse issues versus those who are busted for taking PEDs.

A CB taking Adderall is a far cry from a guy being a functioning alcoholic or dependent opiate abuser. And the NFL's puritanical approach hurts players and is beyond hypocritical especially in light of the massive alcohol-related advertising dollars they take in.

If Gordon looks good, I can't really see him staying in Cleveland, but I can see him having a limited market because even at this point, he's got MASSIVE upside if he truly embraces his sobriety.

I've been a Kupp guy from the beginning when jrry mentioned him. He has made some good catches and big third downs. I'm rooting for him. I'm a little surprised on the drops and the double catching the ball. I think he will step up this week without Woods.

I assume you are specifically referencing the Rams/Pats Superbowl. I'm "still" more upset about that game than anything else. The Vikes loss, no big deal. I'll have forgotten about it by the Saints kickoff.

I tell myself I'll never get over it until the Rams kill that team again in another Superbowl. So, can we not mention that F'd up game; like ever!

Helps to have a big time QB on a rookie deal. Rams do too, but their last regime was busy sinking money into the Tavon Austins of the world and Robert Quinn. Austin is so good he got zero touches last week and Quinn is non existent for all but maybe 2 plays a game.

This organization has wasted a ton of money on mediocre to jack shit players through the years. Needs to end.

I just made that up, but it seems to apply to McVay and these Rams. I think both McVay and Wade will calmly and positively look to win this game.

I'm FAR more hopeful than I was after the loss.

Then again, if we take any hits to our secondary, I won't be too upset because Brees can bury a team in a heartbeat. Ask Washington...
