10 questions before the 2021 NFL season kicks off

1. How will the loss of the Rams top shelf captain/safety and leading tackler (84) John Johnson impact the secondary?

2. Will betting on Brian Allen to get the job done make Rams fans forgive management for not drafting a center?

3. Will the addition of Raheem Morris make the loss of defensive coordinator guru Brandon Staley an afterthought?

4. Were the Rams smarting to let their 3rd best cornerback Troy Hill get away in free agency?

5. Are the losses of 3 key defensive players Brockers, Morgan Fox and Ebukam nothing to be concerned about?

6. Will the Rams be bitten by ignoring the Injury concerns with OLB's Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Terrell Lewis?

7. Did the Rams draft brass make the correct decision by selecting WR Tutu Atwell with their first pick?

8. Will the Rams miss their talented but underachieving #2 TE Gerald Everett? (Mundt-Hopkins-Harris)

9. Can DeSean Jackson stay healthy long enough to play more than 5 or 7 games?

10. Is the addition of Matthew Stafford the difference from being a SB contender to a SB Champion?

I'll give it a shot:

1) I can't say Rapp, Fuller and Burgess will make up for the loss of Johnson. Buts lets remember, JJ was not an all pro. Not even a pro bowler. He was a solid blue chipper but its not like they're trying to replace great player. The only issue is experience there. So we'll have to see how it plays out. Fuller was very good before he got hurt.

2) This is another lets see how it plays out scenario. If Allen can just be serviceable they will be fine. Playing Corbett at center woulda meant two position changes on the line. Now its just one. Better for continuity. If nothing else Allen knows the system well enough by now.

3) I have a feeling McVay had a bigger hand in the defense than people realize. He felt confident enough to let Wade Phillips walk because he wanted a bigger hand in the defense. Wade ran the show with autonomy. He hired a first time DC and I seriously doubt he let Staley have full reign early on. Sure, Staley ran the best defense in the league so he should be given kudos for that. But McVay has more impact there than we know in my opinion.

4) Hill was a decent cornerback. But again, its not like we're replacing an all pro. Hill was a notch above a JAG in my opinion. His loss won't be as hard to replace.

5) Brockers was a good player. But at this point in his career another guy who's a notch above a JAG. Shouldn't be hard to replace. Fox was a rotational guy and another JAG or slightly better. Ebukam was the classic case of a JAG. Every time I watched him play I just thought Meh. These guys will be easier to replace than Johnson.

6) I don't think they're putting too many eggs in Obo's and Lewis's basket. They know what they have in these guys as far as health. I'm sure they already planned for it. Anything they get outta them is a bonus.

7) Another one that remains to be seen. Myself, I wanted a center in that spot. But Tutu is an explosive type player. I can see him being better than Tavon Austin because he seems to want the ball more than Austin did. If they threw a pass to Austin he had to be open and the ball had to be right there for him. Otherwise he never made much an effort to get after it. He was fast but so is everyone in the NFL. He never adjusted. Tutu's a rookie so you never know how long it will take for him to adjust to the faster pro game. Fortunately they have Jackson if Tutu isn't quite ready.

8) No, I don't think they will miss Everett. Harris looks like a guy who can win contested battles or outrun the defender. He's faster than Everett. Mundt is a good blocking tight end but the defense better not think of him as an afterthought. He can catch passes because everyone's worried about the other guys. Bottom line, Everett was another JAG. Not hard to replace.

9) I wouldn't surprised if Jackson is all of a sudden healthier than before now that he's on a legit contender and knows he's going to be counted on for big plays.

10) Yup. McVay will have the confidence to call plays he was hesitant to call with Goff.

Raheem Morris’s Career Rebuild Is Almost Complete

If he runs a top 5 defense is it a sure thing he gets a head coaching job? Todd Bowles came up with a superb game plan in the Superbowl. He's still a coordinator. Say what you want about Brady's accomplishments, but the defense won that game.

True, but Bowles had several opportunities, and was not a good DC in some of his stops. Morris went from a DB coach to a head coach in his mid thirties, skipping the coordinator job.

I actually have a lot of faith in Morris; he's a different type of coach than Wade or Staley, but that can be a good thing. When Atlanta named him as a temporary HC, his defense performed well, and the team responded to him - and that's not even mentioning that he had a 10-6 season in his second year as a Bucs HC. I don't think that Bowles did the same; his head coaching tenure was abysmal.

"Key to Rams season" Brian Allen with JB Long

Nice to see and hear he's bigger & stronger as he should be at this stage of his career. Perhaps the most important thing IMO is that he understands so much more of the offense & what's expected of him. Now he can just react without having to think as much. He's learned from his mentors, and will utilize that knowledge to up his game. We shall see come Sunday night ...

FYI VPN + FUBO TV

That's a cool set up. I'm in Seattle and use ExpressVPN and GamePass spoofed from Europe (Germany or France depending on response time).

It works great for the Rams games, but your deal also has other LA local perks. Noice.

I'm debating using a VPN to spoof to Germany or something since gamepass has blackout restrictions for the UK and Ireland. I guess two games every Sunday get hit, I assume to go onto Sky network or whatever.. Which is shit, because the Rams being a big draw will probably be the ones that get pulled, and since these games are all starting late, sometimes 1AM for me it means I'd have to go 24 hours avoiding spoilers if I want to watch game rather than checking out highlights.. Takes the fun out of things

Rams Bears Tix

I really wanted to see the first regular season game at SoFi (with fans), and was so excited that it would also include the unveiling of Stafford at QB and have nationwide audience. The place should be jumping....

Alas, I cannot get down to LA as I'd planned.

I have placed my seats on StubHub (for outrageous $$ due to other listings), but would rather sell them at a fair price to my Rams brothers if possible.

Please message me if interested. They make it real easy to send tickets via the phone these days.

Mods: I apologize if there is a forum for this, I couldn't find it.

Go Rams!

LA Rams: AJ Jackson draws Brandon Scherff’s former coach

I'll try not to look at him in the sidelines while he stands there like this :D

I think he's a good coach, was just poking fun at him, but I believe McVay thinks very highly of him with their working together at Washington, then Carberry's success at Stanford. Anxious to see the combination of Carberry & Nick Jones as all of us hope for an upper echelon Offensive Line.

Chris Garrett will be ideal teammate for LA Rams Aaron Donald

LMAO - not when you look at it more closely. Freaking everyone questioning Troy Reeder & he didn’t play in a bunch of games early in the season besides special teams.Troy Reeder being The #2 leading tackler on The Rams.
Impressive when you think about a bunch of posters talking about releasing Troy Hill & Brockers a couple years ago as well. The Rams got lucky with Brockers last season, and we’ll see who picks up slack up front. I like this Jonah Williams guy like a Fox type players. He has more power, but maybe not the quickness.
- Tyler Rapp is a tackling machine.I think he’ll lead The Rams in tackles.
Fuller was hurt a couple games, but he should put himself in nice tackling situations.
Holland was a guy that had some talent, but would disappear.I already see him getting ready to show case some of his skills.
What I do know is Raheem Morris will put the defense in position to succeed.I’ll go on record to also say The Rams will have at least 10 more sacks in 2021 than 2020.

Johnny Hekker: "Humbled for the opportunity to come back"

Yeah, believe it or not, text is about the worst form of communication in that there is no context provided beyond other text and often that's not nearly enough.

A recent study (and sorry, major migraine, can't be arsed to look it up) showed that 53% of all communication is non-verbal. I presume that means in person, but yeah.

I think that's why people who don't speak Spanish can watch those telenovelas and still follow along... and they are kinda addicting...
Absolutely. I imagine that part of me actually appreciates the way that text can be so easily played with to create double meanings, subtle (or not) puns, inside jokes etc. Another way to put it, perhaps how a sociopathic person might put it if they were being honest (big IF...) is that text is just so easy to manipulate. It's own inherent limitations make it much easier to conceal or misrepresent true intentions or feelings.
But those same attributes that make it easy to manipulate are also the same ones that make texting fun for young people.
And it's just a whole lot easier than the real thing.

There is a lot lost between a face to face conversation and a telephone call and an even larger gap between a phone call and a text message.
Even as a guy who grew up without internet at home and one who waited years and years after my peers did before owning a smartphone, even I feel like a standard face to face conversation can be an extremely intense experience, even if it's just a typical, trivial talk. It's not about the content so much as it is a kind of sensory overload... or something like it.. while I consciously carry on the conversation, so much other data is being both simultaneously processed and projected. If I can feel that way about having basic, 1 on 1 conversations in person, I can only imagine how it might be for today's youths. No wonder they gaze at their shoelaces and avoid eye contact! Real conversation is intense when you're not used to talking or listening to someone while your eyes, posture, breathing, tone of voice etc are having their own much deeper exchange.
It's been said that the "eyes are the window to the soul". It's not that I'm uncomfortable with someone seeing me in my eyes... it's that seeing THEM is uncomfortable for me. Not always, obviously, not too often, but it's there. When people use someone's bad eye contact as a reason to doubt or suspect them, a part of me always feels sympathy for that person because I can sort of relate.
I'm always aware that not everyone will recognize when I'm being less than 100% serious on this board, yet I would probably be surprised at just how many simply read what I write and take it at "face value".
